Leea Yay!! Glass of wine time :) You're such a great Mom, Regina.

Plans have changed for the OC trip, I may not be able to go now.

We don't have much traffic here but we used to have tons in San Antonio and It would drive me crazy.

I'm really enjoying Grimspace, It's picked up. Can't wait to find out what happens.

I went a couple of years with barely driving because of the no car situation, so I have been freaking out lately when I get on the freeway/interstate. I can't believe I drove for years in California rush hour traffic. I'm terrified of merging now.

message 4304: by Leea (last edited Aug 17, 2012 11:06PM) (new)

Leea I can't imagine not driving. It's like freedom or breathing to me. How lame is that! When we go on trips and my husband drives, I honestly can't wait to get home to my own car and go somewhere. Haha!

message 4305: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Stacia that is how it is for me too. I so prefer the train now. But I used to equate driving with freedom when I lived somewhere else. My car was my own space. Now I just prefer to find a comfy seat and read.

message 4306: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Sorry about the OC trip. :(

message 4307: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Hi back ladies!

We had a great time in both cities. The weather was wonderful in Lisbon...hot but with a cool breeze so we weren't really hot. We dined out almost every night and had a bottle of wine with each meal. My husband is now afraid that we're a couple of drunks!

Then we went to Dublin - btw when we made our first connection there, our gate was near a pub...yes, they have freaking pub in the aiport! - and I was shocked to see people having pints of Guiness at 6am! Of course, we had to follow suit, LOL!

Anyway, in Dublin we were afraid because neither of us thought to pack a raincoat - it rains a lot there - and when we checked the weather it called for rain the 3 days we were to spend there. But miraculously, it cleared up every time we went out.

We walked everywhere as always - my husband had to massage my legs 3 or 4 times -, saw lots of things and generally had a great time. I'll post pics later!

message 4308: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) I just started Married in Haste (Marriage, #1) by Cathy Maxwell There were mixed reviews on this one. So, I'm not sure about this one. Keeping an open mind though.

Is the dining in Lisbon like in Spain? Tapas style? And were you in the beachy Algarve area? Portugal just looks gorgeous.

message 4310: by Leea (new)

Leea Sounds like an amazing trip, glad you had fun.

Grimspace: I'm really enjoying this book, then all of a sudden Jax goes and takes the series in a direction I wasn't expecting. (view spoiler)I have about 20% left, so i'm hoping things will change?

I need to read a fluffy romance after this... haha!

message 4311: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I think you will like how it turns out. :)

That sounds so wonderful -- especialy the leg massage. How was the food in both places? I bet it was nice to change cultures so dramatically.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm only 3 chapters into Grimspace and I'm loving it already. It's just what I was in the mood for.

message 4314: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yayayayay! I am having such a hard time wtih Gunmetal magic. I think I may ditch it for Storm.

message 4315: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Sounds amazing, DG. Welcome back!

I just started God Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo and it's so weird holding an actual book. I haven't done so for over 2 years now since I got my nook.

I'm glad Leea & Stacia are both liking Grimspace. I can't wait to read book 2 w you guys.

One of my faves of the Demonica series. I love this author's snarkiness but unfortunately her new series just doesn't do anything for me :(

message 4317: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL Kay I know what you mean about holding a book.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina wrote: "LOL Kay I know what you mean about holding a book."

It really is weird. I kind of feel like I can't read as fast and also really getting into the book (like imagining the scenes) is harder to do. I guess I'm just use to getting lost inside my Nook.

message 4319: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Ursula wrote: "I'm reading Sin Undone (Demonica, #5) by Larissa Ione"

I lived this series Ursula. Are you planning on reading the spin off series?

message 4320: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I finished reading City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5) by Cassandra Clare . I am sorry to say this but this book was a major let down. So disappointed.

I am back to m/m and reading Ty Hard by L.E.Harner . So far I am liking it.

message 4321: by Leea (new)

Leea I bet that would be weid, Kay. I don't even want to read a paper book. ha!

YAY!! Stacia, i'm so glad you're liking it. I'm really enjoying it but am glad someone is joining me.

Regina, you'll like Storm. That's too bad about Gunmental Magic, I was hearing good things. I'm behind in all the books I planned to read that book and others already. Ugh, life getting in the way.

message 4322: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Stacia and Leea - So glad that you're both liking Grimspace. Somehow I had a sure feeling that Stacia would like it for some reason!

Aw, That makes me sad... I LOVED the Demonica series... but haven't yet read her new series... I was hoping it would be super fantastical

message 4324: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Ali, I thought Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1) by Larissa Ione was okay and then I started Immortal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #2) by Larissa Ione and I couldn't finish it. It may be me though...I haven't been feeling PNRs lately. My other goodreads friends who like PNR really enjoyed this series. So, you may like it.

message 4325: by Leea (new)

Leea I haven't read any of the Demonica books. They worth the read?

Grimspace, has picked up. It's so good!

message 4326: by Ali (last edited Aug 19, 2012 12:08AM) (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments Kay, Yeah, I hear you about not feeling PNR's... That's why i've been holding off on reading them... I used to be exclusively all about that world... but I kinda petered out... I think i'll save the series until I'm in the mood... hopefully that will help...

I def. go through phases... You know? If i'm reading historical romances, I might not enjoy a contemporary book as much... But at the same time I have to be careful, I don't get burnt out.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Ended up quitting out on Seduction and Snacks (Chocolate Lovers #1) by Tara Sivec . The humor was too raunchy for my liking.

message 4328: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Is the dining in Lisbon like in Spain? Tapas style? And were you in the beachy Algarve area? Portugal just looks gorgeous.

Nope, no tapas. But like the Spanish, they have tons of cured meats (you know, like prosciutto, which the Spanish call Jamón) and fish (specially cod, which the Spanish also eat). Also they had tons of great breads.

We weren't in the beach but in Lisbon and we also visited Sintra, which is a small town with amazing palaces. We just got to finish a few but they were gorgeous.

How was the food in both places? I bet it was nice to change cultures so dramatically.

The food was great in Portugal, not that good in Ireland (remember that I'm a Latin person used to something called spices that the Irish don't seem to have discovered. :) The Irish had some good sweets though. We had cake a few times in different places and they were yummy. :)

The people in both places were extremely nice, among the best people overall in all the countries I've visited. The Portuguese in special are very sweet, helpful and always smiling. The Irish are very impish and funny - reminded me a LOT of Dominicans. People would talk to you out of the blue in the street and even the babies would smile or say hello in the streets.

message 4329: by Leea (new)

Leea Sounds like an amazing trip. I just realized, D.G that you visited both my ancestors, I'm Irish and Portuguese. haha!

Finished Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre and I really liked it. I felt that I was able to follow the world building and not get lost. I did feel that there were a lot of characters but in the end mainly 3 who stood out. I have no clue where the next book will lead us but I can't wait to find out.

I'm up for reading the second book, but first I need to read some steamy romance :)

message 4330: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea wrote: "I haven't read any of the Demonica books. They worth the read?"

I really enjoyed this series when I read it over 2 years ago but then I was loving PNR at the time since I hadn't read too many then. I say give the first couple books a try bc the demon sex is steamy ;)

message 4331: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Kay...I really liked the 2nd book. You may want to give it another try when you are in the PNR mood.

message 4332: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments finished Perfect Formation and it was really enjoyable. had a happy ending for all three. not sure what to read next but i'm off to find out.

message 4333: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm reading Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane for the Bingo Shelf and really enjoying it.

I'm also reading Broken Harbour (Dublin Murder Squad, #4) by Tana French , which I started reading in Dublin - Regina, I even read a chapter in Trinity College and visited the Dublin Castle. But I'll put it on hold until I come back from the Phillipines because I want to concentrate on the last weeks of the Bingo game.

message 4335: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and I've started The Last Girl by Jane Casey this morning.

message 4336: by Leea (new)

Leea D.G. I can't wait to hear what you think of Mind Games, it's my next UF series.

Started Rock Chick Reckoning (Rock Chick #6) by Kristen Ashley . I know a few of you ladies are not fans with her writing but I just needed a steamy, light and fun read :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Ellie wrote: "I've finished reading I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and I've started The Last Girl by Jane Casey this morning."

At first I thought you mean this version of The Last Girl by Kitty Thomas and I had a moment of, "I hope she knows that's a taboo book."

message 4338: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm liking it a lot. The world is really unique!

message 4339: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments Just finished The Pact by Jodi Picoult and now i'm listening to My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult ... I've actually read these books years ago, but I'm listening to them on audiobook while I work on this never-ending blanket.

I remember loving them, but now I think they drag a bit...although I cried several times during The Pact. I might take a break from My Sister Keeper and find something a little less... tragic...

message 4340: by Pat (new)

Pat My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult was my first and last Jodi Picoult! Great story right up to the ending! I've read high school writing assignments with better plot resolution! So angered me I'll never read another!

Currently reading Summerland Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand . Not a typical beach read for me but it's ok. These characters are all so damaged however. This can't end well....

message 4341: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments I was just thinking that I've spent the last 4 days of my recovery/knitting break not really reading anything new... I've just been skimming my old favorites.. I feel like lately for every 1 good book, I read 3 blah books.... I need a really great romance...

message 4342: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I forgot you were in the Phillipines DG! I know it is for work, but I hope you see something good.

You got two good books there. :) Mind Games is so unique. Plus the author is such a sweetie.

It is like GR knows I am not reading and so busy, b/c once again I was not getting any notifications!

It took me 45 minutes to pick out a book last night, and by then I was so tired I went to sleep. I think I am going to read This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers

I think I may just abandon my ARC schedule and read what I want. Ali it sounds like you and I are in a similar place reading wise.

I am listening to Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon and liking it.

I am also reading (non fiction and an arc) Mexico Democracy Interrupted by Jo Tuckman and liking it a lot.

message 4343: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm not in the Philippines yet (I'm leaving on Saturday) but I have soo much to do! Plus, I have an interview on Wednesday and I need to prepare for that.

I finished Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane and liked it a lot. I was surprised about the end because I don't trust Justine.

I'm also almost done with The Governess Affair (Brothers Sinister, #0.5) by Courtney Milan , which I'm enjoying a lot too.

message 4346: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I just finished The Governess Affair (Brothers Sinister, #0.5) by Courtney Milan and really liked it. Now I need to look for something else to read. I'm still in my super romance kick but I don't feel like reading anything too long.

message 4347: by Leea (new)

Leea Where have you been. Laura? We've missed you. Yeah, I'm enjoying the Rock Chick series.

message 4348: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Hi Laura! *waving*

I finished God Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo which was great! It's just too bad that the author only has 2 books. I tweeted her to find out if she will be writing again and she said yes but a new book won't be anytime soon :(

message 4349: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Is it hearbreaking? Can you spoiler mark and tell me if it will break my heart? It is so hard, so many really good authors take time to write, which I appreciate - -but I often want more!

Laura I have missed you too!!

message 4350: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina....(view spoiler) I think you should give it a shot. The author seems to be really busy with a music label(or music something) that she is CEO of. So, I'm thinking that it's keeping her rather busy with no time to write :(
