I noticed how you didn't answer me... ugh!! LOL! Yes, i'll finish. I was just taking a break from it to read my other buddy read. No worries honey, i'm in for the long haul.

Shera, do it!! Jump girl!

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments just finished this... Mercy by Annabel Joseph

...... going to head over to the chemical plant to get my Silkwood shower and then curl into a fetal ball in my bed.

I'll read it with you if you can wait a week or two. I've got stuff going on right now.

message 3955: by D.G. (last edited Aug 06, 2012 07:20AM) (new)

D.G. Last week a former client/coworker referred me for a job job and I just had a chat with the HR person. I'm soo excited! It's definitely the kind of job I'm looking for so I really hope it works out. She was even fine with the fact that I'll probably just be available to interview in September.

message 3956: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am so exited for you!!

message 3957: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So now that I am not on my phone ... DG that is great. I know things have been so in flux at your current employer. The market is so hard right now, I wish the best for you.

I think I am enjoying reading Off the Grid (Monkeewrench #6) by P.J. Tracy more than I enjoyed listening to the last few. Although I did have that issue with accidentaly getting an abridged version of the last one. I just really did not like the last one.

message 3958: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Leea, I totally had to read your spoiler comment and I agree with you! I still love him though, even though he needs to give her a chance to explain.

message 3959: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I know! I also was thinking that I really needed to step up my job search - I don't know what it is, but once I'm back from vacation, I really feel the need for change. So this is perfect.

And even if it doesn't work out, at least I'll have a chance to practice my interview skills which are very rusty. I'm a good interviewee (which is why I tend to be called for several rounds of interviews even if I don't get the job) but I haven't practiced in so long!

message 3960: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Very good point DG. Interviewing is definitely a skill. Even if it is not succesful, you also get the rust out of your skills. :)

message 3961: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments D.G. - Could you give me tips on being a good interviewee? I've never been interviewed for a job before!

message 3962: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour #1) by Olivia Cunning and I really liked it. I'm glad I was able to finally get past the first few chapters this time.

Congrats DG! That is awesome!!

message 3963: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Courtney, I would google job interviewing articles too.

Things I do:

Be prepared to talk about my relevant experience/education
Be preapred to talk about why I am looking
Be prepared to talk in detail about past projects/cases
Be preared to ask intelligent questions about the job and the company
Be prepared to ask silly questions about myself (what do you do in your free time, etc.)

Before the interview, I practice certain questions and responses. I do research in depth about the company and type of job I am applying for. I have a list of about 5-6 questions I think are smart and of which answers cannot be found on the web. I read news articles about the company I am interviewing for.

I find out if I know anyone -- even remotely, who works or has worked for that company and I talk to them before the interview.

Those are just some basics I do. ;)

message 3964: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Thanks, Regina! I'm a very introverted person so I'm thinking I might not do well in interviews. I can't think at the top of my head very well, either, especially when I'm nervous.

But those are some great tips! Thanks again.

message 3965: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Courtney, it is all about preparation. If you prepare, research, practice, and make eye conctact you will do fine.

There are websites that give ideas on queations to ask and qustions you will be asked, good practice starting point.

message 3966: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Be prepared. Look for interview questions online and practice how you would answer. Practice as much as you need so your answer is smooth without sounding like a script. Always try to relate your experience to the job so try to prepare a couple of key anecdotes that say how you solved a similar problem in your past experience. For instance, one of the requirements of this job is 'being able to deal with conflict' (yes, it was in the job description) so most likely I'll prepare some stories of how I handled conflict and came on top (of course, LOL!)

Also, research the company so you have an idea about their strengths, weaknesses, competition, etc. If the company is public, a good place to check is the annual report. Prepare some questions for the interviewer - if you are talking to the hiring manager, it's always good to ask about the day to day responsibilities, how they enjoy the company, etc.

Don't be afraid to be yourself. In most jobs, they see dozens of candidates that have good enough qualifications so if you can stand out because of who you are, then that will bring you to the top. Of course, this doesn't mean getting overly familiar or being inappropriate but don't be afraid to be enthusiastic if that's the way you are.

Those are the basics. I can give you lots more tips if you give me some details (PM me if you want to discuss more at length.) Are you going on an interview soon or this is just preparing for the future?

message 3967: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Another thing too is you will always be asked -- what is your biggest flaw or what do you not like about your past bosses/jobs, etc. Don't dish. Make it a productive response that shows you are answering honestly and perhaps learned something.

message 3968: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments D.G. - Just preparation for the future. I might be doing an internship soon (perhaps this fall), but not too sure yet. It's always good to prepare and I feel like I'd do poorly at interviewing. But the best thing to do, as both you and Regina have said, is to prepare which would make you less nervous.

Regina - I've heard about this question and have been thinking about it. I'm not too sure how to answer. Would it be a character flaw? Could you give me an example of how you would answer this question?

Thanks again to both of you!

And going back to books, almost done with The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

message 3969: by D.G. (new)

D.G. True. And about the flaw question never say something like 'I care too much about my job' which they have probably heard a million times and never sounds truthful.

How exciting D.G. Good Luck!!

message 3971: by D.G. (last edited Aug 06, 2012 09:31AM) (new)

D.G. Be truthful but you have to say something in which you have improved over time. Let's say you have problems delegating. Explain how this was difficult for you before but in the last few years you've taken steps A,B,C which allow us make you a better delegator but it still doesn't come naturally to you.

The whole idea is that you learn from your mistakes and that you are always open for improvement.

Leea Wendy F wrote: "Leea, I totally had to read your spoiler comment and I agree with you! I still love him though, even though he needs to give her a chance to explain."

Hahaha!! I guess i'm just getting frustrated with him being so mean, I know he's in love with Chess. Just get over it, she's really trying and if he keeps it up she'll just get even deeper into the drug use.

message 3973: by Leea (new)

Leea So i'm loving City of Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #3) by Stacia Kane , i'm just about to sit down a read that for awhile. Still at the 42% and anticipating the 'Stages' that AJ talked about. haha! So excited!

I'm about 8% into my reread of The Summer Garden (Tatiana and Alexander, #3) by Paullina Simons and holy crap it's so sad. For those who've read this book you know what i'm talking about. Shura, polite, helpful, and silent in the dark of night - makes me want to scream. I'm just to the point (view spoiler) So i'm taking a little break, but will read more later.

message 3974: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina, been meaning to ask, how is your husbands recovery going?

message 3975: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Finished The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella . A nice, light read that made me laugh. I went through it pretty quick, which is a good thing. It kept me turning pages.

Now I'm going to start a book by my favorite author, Juliet Marillier, that I've been putting off because I know I'm going to love it.

Seer of Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters #5) by Juliet Marillier

(Ok, well I HOPE I'm going to love it)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Congrats D.G.!

Kay wrote: "I finished Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour #1) by Olivia Cunning and I really liked it. I'm glad I was able to finally get past the first few chapters this time."

I'm most excited for Trey's book coming up. After seeing his feelings in book 1 (and how it comes into play in book 2), I really want to see him get his own happy ending.

I've heard that this one is a good rock-star story and can be read as a standalone. I just need to get ahold of a copy now. Dangerously Close by Dee J. Adams

Finished up Crash by Nicole Williams and it's not worth the hype imo. The book is easy to read but some of the plot is unbelievable. I even had to reference Dirty Dancing because of one scene.

Moving on to Wrong Bed, Right Guy by Katee Robert for a buddy read.

message 3977: by Brunhilde (new)

Brunhilde So this is not what I am reading now, but more like what I would like to be reading now. Can anyone tell me any good books about military men and their personal lives. And I don't mean the kind like a Navy Seal rescues a girl and they fall in love. More like the Navy Seal is already married and the story tells the ups and downs of the Seal when he is home and not home.

message 3978: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) The Virgin River series is kind of like that. It involves men who are out of the military and are currently serving. Virgin River (Virgin River, #1) by Robyn Carr

message 3979: by Leea (new)

Leea The Troubleshooter series by Suzanne Brockmann. Part deals with men finding their match but they also keep the characters revolving and you get side shorelines of those relationships.

message 3980: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I'm continuing with the rockstar theme and I just started Rock Hard (Sinners on Tour, #2) by Olivia Cunning

Stacia, I'm excited to read Trey's too...especially what went down in Sinners #1. Poor guy. when that comes out, I'll read it with you. I added Dangerously Close to my list too...sounds like a good one.

I recently read Because of You (Coming Home, #1) by Jessica Scott which I thought was just ok but so many people really liked it. It's about a Army Sergeant injured from war and he's home recovering. He gets close to a gal (with some personal issues) who nurses him back to health. I can't think of another military romance without much suspense. I asked this question too when I was reading this book a few months ago.

Xia (xiat) Currently reading Storm's Heart (Elder Races, #2) by Thea Harrison Loving this series so far!!

message 3983: by Annette (last edited Aug 06, 2012 10:06PM) (new)

Annette I'm reading "Game For Anything" by Bella Andre. It's a nice sexy summer read.

message 3984: by Joyce (new)

Joyce Middleton (JoyceMiddleton) | 3 comments I'm almost finished reading "The Hangman's Daughter." Historical - 1659 - lots of interesting facts about living at that time and what it meant to be The Hangman.

message 3985: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Aug 06, 2012 10:59PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) So I finished Wrong Bed, Right Guy and it was really good. It seems like it's been a while since I've truly enjoyed a contemp/romantica but nothing about the book got me upset (even the woman's judgmental attitude at the start didn't bother me because the guy kept pushing back). It was funny, sexy and had a couple who came together through arguing. Just what I like! And it had a hot, tattooed bad boy. :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Starting Tatiana and Alexander A Novel by Paullina Simons and I'm excited but it will probably take me at least a week to read (or more) because I have a few scheduled books to read at the same time as I'm reading this one.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It will be a slow read but I'm going to love it, I'm sure.

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Reading The Rock Star in Seat 3A by Jill Kargman At first I loved Hazel - thought she was so cool. But now the cool is feeling a little precious to me and she's starting to annoy me. We'll see how it goes.

Leea Finished City of Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #3) by Stacia Kane - Oh Wow!! Who knew an UF could make me cry so hard. I love Chess, I love how messed up she is and that deep down she's a good person with a *ucked up past. She was so brave in this book. Talk about a leap of faith. Just, WOW!
