Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I love my Nook Tablet's feature for highlighting. So much easier than the original nook.

Over the weekend I finished a bunch of chick lit books: Attachments, Girl On The Run, and Single Girl's To Do List. I'm still in the mood for something contemporary and somewhat light.

Does anyone have any suggestions for Pretty Woman themed books? Preferably in modern time and not historical. I searched under listopia but couldn't find anything :(

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Are you thinking something like down on her luck woman meets larger than life guy?

I was looking at possibly reading The Unidentified Redhead (Redhead, #1) by Alice Clayton soon if you want to buddy read it and I could share my copy, but I had planned on reading City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5) by Cassandra Clare when it comes out tomorrow so I wouldn't be able to for at least a couple of days.

message 1303: by Kay (last edited May 07, 2012 04:09PM) (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Well, I'm looking for a Sugar Daddy/Pretty Woman type theme where the guy propositions a girl for sex/dates and in return, the girl gets goods or cash. I read Unsticky a couple months ago and really liked it and hope to find something similar.

I'm down to read The Unidentified Redhead with you. From the reviews, it sounds funny & steamy. Just let me know when you're ready.

message 1304: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I'd heard there were significant platform changes with the new nook that is great. I have no interest in reading the mortal instrument book but I do like that cover, it is a beautiful cover.

Kay, if you find books share those titles!

message 1305: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Will do, regina.

I like the fact that the new Nooks (and other new ereaders) have the touch feature. With the old nook, it would take forever to use the dictionary or to highlight. I hardly used those features before but now, I'm highlighting everything. LOL And it's nice to look up a word and if it's not in the dictionary, I have the choice google or wiki it.

message 1306: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It did take a number of steps, that is why I stopped using it. I am a huge highlighter/note taker in some books. I love the dictionary function (I can't believe I never looked words up before!) and highlight function. On mine I just start moving the mini joystick and it goes to the word, I prefer it for some reason to the apps on my tablet to highlighting though. I am not sure why, likely it is just what I have been using for years.

Leea Regina wrote: "If you google kindle collections calibre plug in you will find a blog that guides you -- also, the forums mobilereads.com has a thread that is thousands posts long with the link to download it from..."

Thanks Regina! I was reading each one you posted and it looks like the plug in does not work for the Kindle Touch. Does anyone have one and use a plug in?

message 1308: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So weird?!!!!

message 1309: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) I just finished Immortal Sins by Amanda Ashley I was VERY disappointed. Don't waste your time on this one. Currently reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen . I know I like that one. Also reading A is for Alibi (Kinsey Millhone, #1) by Sue Grafton

message 1310: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Starting The Forbidden Rose (The Spymaster's Lady, #4) by Joanna Bourne

message 1311: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am almost done with The Treasure Map of Boys Noel, Jackson, Finn, Hutch, Gideon—and me, Ruby Oliver (Ruby Oliver, #3) by E. Lockhart , it started off slow but now it is sooooo good.

I am also 63% in to Blackout (Newsflesh Trilogy, #3) by Mira Grant - this book is just so darned good!

message 1312: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I'm stuck with Cinder. I just have one hour to go into the audiobook but I haven't felt like finishing it. I'll definitely try tonight though.

message 1313: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Put it on 1.5 or 2X speed. That always helps me push through the end of an audiobook I am not too in to.

message 1314: by D.G. (new)

D.G. LOL, it's been on 2X for around 65% of the narration already.

message 1315: by Leea (last edited May 08, 2012 01:36PM) (new)

Leea hahaha! I haven't had a chance to start Cinder. I've just been too busy and I also can't stop thinking of Soldiers.

Wish I could read 2X faster ;)

message 1316: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I just started The Siren by Tiffany Reisz . From the reviews, there are issues that will make people uncomfortable so I'm a little nervous about it.

I want to read Cinder but I'll wait to hear all your opinions when you all are done.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun and it was just okay...decent enough but nothing special. Didn't live up to the hype imo.

Still working on Special Forces (about 40% in) and got a little ways into CoLS last night.

I see mostly all 5 star reviews. Granted, there's only 1 page of reviews so at least half or more of them could be from friends of the author but even so...it looks intriguing. You'll have to let me know what you think.

And there goes GR again using the wrong book cover when I hit reply.

Regina (reginar) D.G. ~Shameless Hussy~ wrote: "LOL, it's been on 2X for around 65% of the narration already."

Too funny DG.

I just started the audio of Monster Hunter International (MHI, #1) by Larry Correia

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I've never heard of that one. Was it a rec?

message 1321: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I had a few GR friends that rated it highly (that is how I initially heard about it) and then quite a few men in a fantasy group I am in really liked it.

I also have several female GR friends who did not like it and gave it 1 or 2 stars -- and Ilona Andrews did not like it. So, we shall see!

message 1322: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I finished Cinder and liked the whole premise but the world building ended up being too simplistic for me (and the politics didn't make any sense, and these were a big part of the story so it really detracted for me.) Some things that could have tied together if the author would just have just a provided few simple explanations but it seems as if writers/publishers think that weak world-building is OK because is YA.

message 1323: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm in a reading slump... I was going to start Cinder but nothing really sounds interesting to read. Dang Special Forces!

message 1324: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) What about the next in line for PsyCop or continue on with Alpha & Omega? You weren't in the mood for either before, but maybe going back to them now would be good?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Or a reread?

message 1326: by Leea (new)

Leea I can't do M/M right now. lol! I might need a romance/erotica restart. I think i'll read Love's Rhythm by Lexxie Couper

Stacia, Fancy seeing you here in the morning :)

message 1327: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I want to read Love's Rhythm too. I look forward to reading your review, Leea.

I finally finished the audio of The Year of Living Scandalously by Julia London . As I mentioned before, I have had problems with audio books as my mind wanders and gets distracted. I told myself that I will try to listen to different genres to see if that will make a difference. With this particular book, I thought it was okay. The narrator sounded really old to me so it was hard for me to get into the characters. I will probably listen to a contemporary next.

message 1328: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Rereads are usually my drug of choice when a book has left me without the taste for something new.

Or I fall back to a long time favorite series like JD Robb's In Death books.

message 1329: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I usually just switch for something completely different. :)

message 1330: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Finished Notorious Pleasure by Elizabeth Hoyt. The first half was a bit slow but it picked up in the second half. Also tried to read A Secret Affair (Huxtable Quintet, #5) by Mary Balogh but bailed after the first chapters.

message 1331: by D.G. (new)

D.G. So we just learned that the CFO is leaving.

I tell you, they're dropping like flies around here.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Is your job in danger? Or did I miss part of a conversation?

Leea, yeah I was only on for a few this morning. It is a rare sighting, isn't it? Just flipped the wifi on for a sec while I was waiting for Silas to get out of the bathroom.

message 1333: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Stacia ~ the professional insomniac wrote: "Is your job in danger? Or did I miss part of a conversation?"

The CEO quit a couple of months ago and now the CFO is the one now leaving.

They haven't been fired but they left on their own, which tells you about the health of this company. My job is not in jeopardy at the moment but if I continue here for too long, I may not have one.

message 1334: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) | 35 comments I just finished reading Broken by Megan Hart and really liked it. It was a typical Megan Hart book, erotica with so much depth, it's almost painful. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a sequel to this book, maybe a novella? I'd really like to know how things turn out for them.

Ah DG that really sucks. I would be so scared.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Actually, ignore that post Theresa if you saw it before I deleted it.

The alternate PoV and following HEA book were for another one of Hart's. I was confusing the two because they were the only two I'd read by her.

message 1338: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh I don't mean to worry you. It's just that anything that happens in my life, I feel like sharing here, LOL!

I'll be fine one way or the other. One of the good things about not having a house, kids or debt is that we don't have that many responsibilities besides the day to day and we're not very extravagant. :) And my poor husband has a 1.5 jobs so if I don't work, it won't be the end of the world.

message 1339: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) | 35 comments Stacia, I think you're confusing it with Tempted. Naked comes after Tempted. I was hoping Broken was followed, directly or indirectly, by another book or novella. I know Dirty has a sequel in a novella. We also see the heroine from Dirty in Broken. I just want to know if they will have an HEA. (view spoiler) Thanks though!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Yes, I was. That's why I ended up erasing it.

I saw this after reading your deleted post and responding to it. Lol! Anyway, I posted the question on MH website. Hopefully she'll respond. a

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I do that all the time.

Hart is one of those authors who writes brilliantly but she doesn't turn my crank. I have this weird thing about not wanting to mix sad storylines with books that are supposed to turn me on. Or maybe that's not weird if I read erotica as a turn on, haha. I actually like deep and thoughtful (even sad at times) books, just not when I'm trying to reach "happy sexy time" if that makes sense.

I totally understand why she has so many fans though. She's a great writer.

message 1343: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG that does give you a lot of options. Which is a great thing!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I so read that as, "DG does give you a lot of opinions."

For a second, I thought DG had pissed off Regina for some reason unknown.

message 1345: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "DG that does give you a lot of options. Which is a great thing!"

True. I'm taking half of Friday off to start looking for a new job. And I'll see if I can find something part-time. If I could do that for a year or so, it would be great.

message 1346: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina - Forgot to tell you that I started Faithful Place. I sort of didn't feel like starting it but it was the only audiobook that fit a challenge I'm doing so I said WTH. :) And it's going well so far. I really like Frank and that family of his is NUTSO.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) It's never a bad idea to have something lined up.

My husband is considering switching jobs because he's in a dead end position that's going nowhere but if he made the jump, we'd be taking a pay cut (we can barely get by as it is) but it would also mean tons of room for growth. What he's almost considering is taking the new job and trying to switch his current job to the night shift for a month, as a safety net, in case the new job is one he hates or it doesn't work out...he could quit and go back to days on his current job.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I DO have tons of opinions so I'm sure I piss off people regularly. ;p

Oh well, I'm going for drinks with my coworkers to rehash the work situation (that's becoming a ritual in the company.)

message 1349: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) NUTSO is right! Isn't the narrator perfect? I lvoe the accident.

Job related. (view spoiler)
