Romance, Historical or Otherwise discussion
What Are You Reading Now?

Just think...this could have been our chance to meet! Where are you sitting anyway? I would have gotten tickets on the lower level by 3rd base (our league reserved 200 tix in this area.)

kay, you're right about Starbucks. I like Peets coffee better but we don't have one here.
I've heard about the coloring controversy. I just don't drink those kinds of drinks. Too many calories.

I've never been to a Giants game. Only A's game...we've always been an Oakland A's fan since I grew up in the East Bay. It's an old stadium so it's not nice like AT&T Park. The A's are planning on moving to Fremont though...which I think is horrible. I wonder if they will change their name to Fremont A's...this just doesn't sound right.

We do buy a cow locally, so no pink slime in our cows -- I think that is so gross.

I have been looking into buying half a cow or going in with a few friends to buy one and share it.
The pink slime is disturbing. I just want safe food for my children. ugh!

Special Forces tomorrow :)
I'm going to put aside Shadow Reader... I don't have enough time.

Pink Slime is disturbing. Especially since they use ammonia to process it. But who knows...maybe they do that for all meat and I just don't know.
It happens Leea. There's no way to fit in everything. I am chomping at the bit to discuss the book though. At least Kay's keeping me company for now. :)

Are we reading it in sections (Soldiers, Mercenaries 1, Mercenaries 2, veterans) as it was originally written are just reading it as one long book?

Leea, that's the first one, Soldiers. I have them all, so I was just wondering what the plan was.

I went to watch The Hunger Games with my sister yesterday and although it was very close to the book, I thought it was way too sanitized. The music also sucked, not at all appropriate.
I guess that's how they got that PG-13 rating!

Did you read the first book,

Did you read the first book,

Oh, and Yeah (view spoiler) to make her wait 10 years. And I liked that the author had both of them mourning the relationship. However, I thought MacKenzie's fip flops to be irritating especially since they weren't based on facts of her own. For 10 years (view spoiler)
So those were my problems. I liked it, I liked the characters, I liked the world, and I really enjoyed the beginning. I do think this should be labeled paranormal romance or romance based urban fantasy though. I feel bad not loving it sense everyone else does -- so for me it is Guild Hunter all over. I felt the exact same -- it didn't read or feel like urban fantasy at all and I didn't buy into the emotional part of the relationship (I did buy into their lust though).

I also didn't like at all how she seemed to be making such important decisions as to which side to fight in a war based on emotional attachments. A person that can be manipulated with feelings is VERY dangerous and I really wish that the author would have had (view spoiler)
I did like that the story was not black and white (both sides were doing terrible things) but I wished that McKenzie had questioned the rebels argument that the weakening of their magic was cyclical. What proof did they have for that?

That would have been great -- to show that she made the wrong choice or to somehow draw out that (view spoiler)

I am halfway through the audio of

After I finish Clan, I am going to start either

I haven't read in the last few days. We've been too busy. I might star Harvest Moon when we get home.
Regina, last in the series... No more?
At the Oakland A's Game right now. It's beautiful here today, upper 70's perfect for a ball game :)

I haven't had time to read much over the weekend but I did start

I also started

I promised I'd read that one soon for a friend. Good to hear it's working out for you.

I can't start White Cat and Harvest Moon at the same time, so I think I will do Harvest Moon first -- DG can you wait until Tuesday or Wednesday for White Cat?

I want to read White Cat too. I might join you ladies.

Kay, I got so sun burned at the game today it was so hot. I even put 50 sunblock on. Yikes! I loved Suddenly You, on of my favorites!!

This book was absolute perfection for me!! I just finished reviewing it but it had me swooning, drooling and panting over Gideon Cross and had me reading for the better part of it with the world's biggest grin on my face. It was the perfect blend of heart warming, HOTNESS , seriously tortured hero (and heroine).
Gideon has just been bumped up to my #1 book guy (tied with Alexander of course)...

I just picked up

Western... What don't you like about it?

That's fine, Regina. That will give me a chance to finish

I went to sleep at 1am last night listening to Red Seas Under Red Skies. I don't know how that author comes up with those situations, it's been so freaking exciting.

thanks Leea :) its SO amazing. Gideon is the HOTTEST MAN EVERRRRR

Very cool - -so we have a group/buddy read for White Cat. When should we start?

I'm glad you had fun. I'd probably leave early too especially if the parade took a long time.

Did anyone else see the news story about Starbucks using ground up bugs for the pink coloring in their Strawberry Frappuccinos?"
I just heard about this! WTH....don't they know what's in their coloring before serving it to their customers? Luckily, I'm not a starbucks drinking type of gal. I lived in seattle for 7 years, so I'm kind of a coffee snob. So, I only go to starbucks if I'm w friends who want to meet up there.
