Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Is it an older book? I notice that sex scenes in older books tend to often be fade to black.

message 5202: by Leea (new)

Leea 2006, I haven't read anything by this author before. Has anyone else?

I got the boys their Halloween Costumes and my youngest wants to be Hulk - Lets see if he starts smashing stuff. The both had me wrapped around their fingers at Target today. I was just too tired from cleaning the whole house. LOL!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) My little one wants to be Captain Hook. I have no clue how we'd even find that costume unless we got it online.

message 5204: by Leea (last edited Oct 04, 2012 03:36PM) (new)

Leea You just need a hook and the hat. The rest you can just use his clothes, would be my guess. I'm not into making my kids plus they were so excited and I just bought them. They play dress up daily, so at the end of the season I buy a ton of Halloween costumes when they're on clearance.

Hulk and Iron Man:

What an excellent costume choice! Are you going to get him a little stuffed crocodile to carry around? :)

message 5206: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Awe so cute Leea! I miss dressing up for Halloween. Now I have to settle with giving candy to kids :(

I just finished Hot Ice (T-FLAC, #7) by Cherry Adair which was ok.

Will now start Archangel (Samaria, #1) by Sharon Shinn which I'm excited about because I'm familiar with her work and her style of writing is the type that I typically enjoy.

message 5207: by Leea (new)

Leea Finished Texas Rain (Whispering Mountain, #1) by Jodi Thomas and it was a solid story but lacked the steam I was wanting.

Now i'm about 4% into Golden Trail (The 'Burg, #3) by Kristen Ashley and I already feel for Tanner Layne. I keep hearing this Epilogue is fantastic, a KA winner.

Has anyone read Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson ? I've been wanting to read it for such a long time.

message 5208: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Oct 05, 2012 12:36AM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished God Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo . I still love DeBartolo's style of writing (her words do something to my heart and soul), but thought this one was just a hair shy of the greatness that was HTKARS. However, one of my friends liked this one better, so you never know what's going to resonate with a person. Needless to say, I'm wrecked.

Back onto The Assassin's Curse (The Assassin's Curse, #1) by Cassandra Rose Clarke . I'm more in the mood for fantasy now, so I'm finding it easier to get into this time around.

Also started At Peace (The 'Burg, #2) by Kristen Ashley (I know what you're all thinking...I got talked/coerced into this one)

message 5209: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So I am about 60% in to Rapture (The Fallen Angels, #4) by J.R. Ward . I am enjoying it, I still have some of the same "issues" I did with the last book (which I mention in my review), but I am enjoying the flow of this book more.

I just started The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling in audio and am liking it.

Yeah, I am pretty confident I will never read God Shaped Hole, but I am sure it is close to brilliant. :) I love how she writes. I have heard only good stuff about the Assassin's Curse.

message 5210: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Texas Rain (Whispering Mountain, #1) by Jodi Thomas . It was very sweet but slow. I need more lovin' in my books though.

Stacia, great review of God-Shaped Hole. i love the author's way with words. I did like HTK a lot more. And I'm looking forward to hear what you think about Kristen Ashley since the last ones you read didn't win you over completely.

Leea, Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson has been on my list for awhile. I also want to read Keegan's Lady by Catherine Anderson . I've read her contemporary romances which were pretty good.

Regina, I'm glad you're enjoying Rapture. I still haven't picked this series up. I'm afraid it's a repeat of BDB.

message 5211: by Leea (new)

Leea I have no plans to pick up the Fallen Angels Series... Not sure why but I just also don't want another repeat of BDB.

Kay, we'll have to read those together. CM has been on my TBR list forever and I finally have the book and want to read it.

I'm also waiting to see what Stacia thinks of At Peace... I'm reading the third book in the Burg Series, Golden Trail. I'm about 11% into it but I also don't want this to be another misunderstanding that took 20 years for these two to get back together - i'll be pissed!

message 5212: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So far there have been one official sighting of the Band of Brothers and one reference to Beth. Of course Detective de la Cruz in this book. And there are refernces to how many disapperances are in Caldwell -- which is of course a reference to BDB. The angels are definitely just like the Brothers, which bothers me. Both in terms of world development perspective but also -- these guys are yes, Fallen Angels -- but fighting for the greater good and I have issues with how two of them talks about, thinks about and treats women. Not that they have sex, but going beyond that.

Despite all of this though, I am enjoying Rapture more than #3.

message 5213: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Just curious with Iced A Dani O'Malley Novel (Fever World, #1) by Karen Marie Moning coming out soon, if anyone has read an advance copy of it and had any thoughts? Still planning to read it, just, it makes it seems like it's a Dani/Ryoden story and I can't wrap my head around the age difference.

message 5214: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I feel the same way. I don't know of any ARCs. I don't think there were ARCs for Shadowfever. Were there?

That's good to hear. I'm really looking forward to this one, but they're doing a B.O.M of it in another group I'm in and so far it's been all negative reactions to it.

message 5218: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Well I'm not sure it's definitively Dani/Ryo, but even Dani/Christian there's a pretty significant age difference.

I'm definitely reading it when it's released, regardless. even just for more Barrons!

message 5219: by Regina (last edited Oct 05, 2012 12:13PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Kit, I am withholding judgment until I get further in. I think it is hard for some readers to separate Rowling form the Harry Potter world and this is the antithesis to HP. It is very dark. But so far, it is exaxtly the type of modern literary fiction I enjoy reading. I think a reader would have to enjoy modern british literary fiction and be okay with how deeply dark it goes. I am okay with both. :) So I am hoping that I love it.

message 5220: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading The Birthing House by Christopher Ransom by Christopher Ransom this morning. This book was one of the worst horror novels I've read in my entire life. It wasn't even the slightest bit scary. The author's writing style is terrible and I felt like most of the book was written by a horny 12-year-old. The whole plot was confusing and I disliked all the characters. I ended up not really caring what happened to any of them. This book is definitely one to avoid. My full review is here.

Now I'm about to begin The Green Mile by Stephen King by Stephen King.

I thought that GSH would be a harder read than HTK, but I found it easier (emotionally). Maybe because there are no real shockers, so it wasn't like something came out of nowhere for me. It wrecked me because the book was good, not because I had a harder time with it than I did HTK.

Kay, will do. So far, it's not bad. I've only had a few twitchy moments.

AMEN!!!! We'll all have to buddy read that baby.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished The Assassin's Curse (The Assassin's Curse, #1) by Cassandra Rose Clarke and I loved the characters and setting. It's not the typical fantasy setting, which is nice. The story dragged in parts, so I couldn't rate too high, but when it was good, it was good. For all of the swashbuckling and assassin-y goodness, I was surprised to see as much pining and swooning as there was. Not that I minded...it just took me by surprise for a book cover and title that looked less girly.

message 5226: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Is it a good book for a middle schooler Stacia?

Are you all pre-ordering Iced? I am on the waiting list at the library and may get the audio from audible.

I finished. Rapture (The Fallen Angels, #4) by J.R. Ward I enjoyed it but was frustrated that the one big irritation I had with the last book happened again in this book! Still I give it 4 stars.

Trish | 11 comments I'm currently on my third LCR book and enjoying every page of it Run to Me (Last Chance Rescue, #3) by Christy Reece I'm only halfway done but i can already tell this is gonna be another 5-star read

message 5228: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Trish that series looks interesting. I am hot and cold with romantic suspense, I may give it a try.

I started Sandman Slim (Sandman Slim, #1) by Richard Kadrey -- it grabbed me right from the beginning. I have several GR and in real life friends who rave about this series.

I am listening The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling and enjoying it.

It is. loving it so far but i have to do a lot of backtrack reading. there are about 8 books in the series and i'm only on my 4th. oh i would recommend pamela clare's i-team series or cindy gerard's blac ops series. Perhaps they can help you decide whether you would like romantic suspense or not :)

Sandman Slim also sounds interesting. Do you read a lot of urban fantasy novels?

Leea Still reading Golden Trail (The 'Burg, #3) by Kristen Ashley and enjoying it! I'm just not sure what seporated the two main characters and it's starting to drive me nuts because i'm at the half way mark.

We're in Disneyland!! We made it, 6 hr drive with one stop and the boys were about the jump out of the car when we arrived. My oldest yelled, "I want to die." When we were sitting in LA traffic... He was joking but it made me giggle.

We met friends at Medieval Times tonight for some dinner and theater. The kids were enthralled and we had the best time. My girl friend said, "See you Thursday, when you're penniless..." NO KIDDING!! Thank goodness she's letting us crash with her and feeding us Thursday :) The next three days will be filled with Disneyland - I hope the boys and mainly jim and I can make it.

Trish I do. I read a bit of everything. :)

I have read a few from both of those series. I always seem to enjoy the first 50% (kind of like how I feel about PNR) and then after that point the books fall flat. The romantic suspense that never falls flat for me is Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter series, but maybe because how she writes her characters.

Sandman Slim is really good so far. I am 10% in. It is unlike anything I have read so far. It is very gritty, not a lot of world building -- there is more showing than telling, which always makes for a better story. The story just starts.

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I just finished The Green Mile by Stephen King by Stephen King earlier today and I absolutely loved it. I'm a huge fan of Stephen King and The Green Mile has got to be one of the best novels he has ever written. In fact, it's one of the best novels I have ever read in my entire life. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down! It is very beautifully written and extremely moving at times. The plot is original, gripping and heart-breaking. I'd give this book more than five stars if I could! My full review is here.

It really is a lot of fun. Messy, but fun. You have to eat everything with your hands!

We've been to the one in SoCal, as well as the similar dinner show in Vegas at Excalibur (that one's not a medieval times but it's the same thing).

Finished Down to You by M. Leighton and even though I guessed the plot twist, I liked it. Starting The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes and I hope it's as good as her other book. I'm in the mood for historical fiction, so I'm hopeful.
