The librarian just answered my message, stating that she doesn't remember and that she even emailed the author who answered that there's no book/story by that name. So I would be grateful if a super could delete this book:

It was separated from another work, according to change log entry Sep 20, 2011 12:55pm (#9485018), by Carolyn Ford. Maybe someone at GR could look up the record and see what it was separated from, or someone could contact Carolyn Ford.

Yeah, that makes sense. Edit: done.

The word "fan" original comes from the word "fanatic". ;)

The second one matches this edition at WorldCat:http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/123959155. This ISBN 13 had been put in the ISBN 10 slot. However, this edition matches http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32..., except for changes made by onix

WorldCat lists 14 editions for this book. Given that both have ratings, is it likely that these represent 2 of the 4 editions not listed on GR?

Is this to be a valid reason for deleting books?"
No, for correcting them. It's sometimes a case of an ISBN 13 being shoved into the ISBN 10 slot, which is easily remediable; or it's a case of an ISBN-less "placeholder" which a user created before they knew what the book's ISBN was, so they could shelve it. If these have 5+ ratings, a super will need to come along and merge and delete them.

So you are saying that the supers have a responsibility to make absolutely sure that a book to be deleted is really merged with the correct edition, and that books that actually have no ISBN are not deleted.

I don't believe so. However, I don't see a need to continue it if my statement is correct. If it is not correct, I'd like it to be corrected.
Edit: I think you are referring to the posts on March 29, which were on a similar, but slightly different issue.
If you are asking a general question, superlibrarians are all aware of their responsibility and do not take it lightly. I don't think it is necessary to repeatedly drive that point home.
If you have an issue with a specific super, please either message them directly, or contact me privately.
If it's me you have an issue with, you are welcome to contact Kara or Patrick, both of whom are listed on the the About Us page.

I'm sorry. I did not mean offense.
Yes, I was asking for my own edification. I take the (volunteer) work I do here very seriously, and I posit that others do as well. I am sure that there is a lot that goes on behind the screen of which I know nothing.
I also probably should apologize for the way I phrase and emphasize things. I can write well but am more at home writing code than using English. Despite moderating another group, I am not really at home with bulletin board style chat; I never had time for it before I retired. I hope this makes the situation clearer.

Also, the most popular edition is missing isbn and cover art is different. It may have been pre-release placeholder. If you wish, merge it into the hardcover I separated out.

Done. I don't think the most popular edition needs deletion. (It might be an alternate-cover edition, for instance. Unless someone knows that cover was never published?)

After that the other editon needs to be combined with http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/72...

I've combined it with the first volume of the series.

Since this book was first published in 1962, it may be a pre-ISBN edition.
It had no info -- no pub date, no publisher, no cover, no page number. Its edit history showed that it was initially added with not only a misspelled title, but a misspelled author as well.

A couple of them had some information with them to help, which I added. Hope this helps identify them.

I certainly hope not. Maybe someone else can spot more information to rescue them.

I think the second one needs to be deleted, since it contains no information at all and the first one does.

The author removed a bunch of the information and changed the description to say the book was proposed but never published. I think it can go...

I think this is a good old fashioned ASIN bug that did a darn good job of hiding.
Re 361: Got the first. The second was manually added by a user a week ago. ASIN removed; author fixed.
