Richard Jacoby Don't know. It felt like Stanley Kubrick wrote it, and that is not a compliment.

Suzanna Edwards Yes, it should most definitely be made into a film it would just be amazing!!

:)

Tonya I would love to see this book as a movie. Whenever I watch a movie that I have enjoyed as a book, I try not to have prior expectations. This usually helps me enjoy the movie, instead of thinking the whole time --they left that out, they should have eloborated more, ect.

message 104: by Kay (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kay Omg yes !

Kimberley I don't think it should be made into a movie, because I don't think a movie could do it justice. I feel like they wouldn't be able to make it as magicle and mysterious on screen as it all seems in the book. I just think a movie can't really capture the beauty of this story.

TamElaine I don't see that a movie would do justice to this book...the book wasn't really based on much activity, more an appeal to the senses and I have a feeling that to make it a movie that would draw people to it, it would have to be fleshed out a lot...I fear the movie would be very different from the book with lots of add-ons and build-ups. I think this is one of those cases where this gem should be left as a book, to be read, and imagined, and thought about long afterward.

Lola Mark it defanatly should be a movie!!! i would watch it i loved the book!

Gerd Chad wrote: "I think that while it would be moderately difficult to portray the character development and convert the writing style to cinema, I do believe that the special effects would be stunning!"

Actually that's what I would fear, should they choose to adapt "The Night Circus".
It's such a beautiful story, and it would be a great challenge to bring it to the big screen, but I think most of today's directors would kill it to death with FX.

But going off on a tangent, and because it's on my mind a lot lately:
Did anybody else imagine Clara Bow in the role of Celia?
And do you think that the intials Morgenstern chose are a coincidence?

Michele Coleman if filmed with enough imagination and creativity it would be a beautiful movie. Loved the story and would love to see it in sceen but do hope it is done well. I agree it would be good as a Tim Burton movie !

Daffodil14 First of all I think a movie version would be wrong. I like the circus to stay on my head. However, if anyone can do it justice, it would have to be someone like Hayao Miyazaki (not Tim Burton, not a starring role for Johnny Depp, although I'm a big fan of both).

message 111: by Lisa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lisa Kuhn I could see it as a Tim Burton project. Laugh if you want, but I still love him. His movies are dark yet whimsical. I think he could capture the visuals really well.

message 112: by Nat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nat I think it should be a mini series. I don't think that a movie would be able to capture the magic well enough in a 2 hour movie. Too much would have to be cut out and changed and it would give the story a completely different feel. I think that if it were, say a 3 part mini series, with 2 hour episodes, it would be perfect. Plus all the hype of hollywood movies and such I feel wouldn't influence it as much, and the director would be able to put more of his/her own taste into instead of "expectations" that would be had if it were made into a movie.....
That being said, I was at the movies last night and there was a preview for a cirque du soleil movie, and for a few seconds, I thought it was The Night Circus and I was SUPER pumped.
so If it did get made into a movie, I would still love to see it.
BUT
I think the magic of it all would be easier to translate if it were a mini series

message 113: by Gaby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gaby Testa This book should definitly be a movie!!!!

message 114: by Carey (new) - rated it 3 stars

Carey Shea I agree with Katrina. If done right, the movie would be amazing visually. It's not much of a plot but that's what screenwriters are for, right? I would see the movie after I read the reviews.

message 115: by [deleted user] (new)

I think it would be good for a film. The magic would be amazing in the imax. They would just need to make a lot of changes so it wouldn't be as boring as the book. I think Tim Burton would be a good choice to direct it. If you've seen "Big Fish", Nigh Circus would be pretty much like that

message 116: by Leslie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Leslie I feel if this book is made into a movie, it will be based mostly on the visual possibilities it presents. I can see this movie presenting itself as a "visual feast for the eyes". Which I have to admit I would be curious to see how it plays out on the big screen. But I have a feeling the visual effects would overwhelm the story.

message 117: by Lucy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lucy Mackay Kate wrote: "I think this book would either make a brilliant film or a really rubbish film, it just has to be done right. I know I would see it instantly if it was made into a film. Certainly would love to see ..."

Definitely.....it could be magical (sorry) in 3D!! This book was a delight. Loved it.

Jessica Rodriguez Yes! It's one of the reasons I picked it up. Once I started reading it, I couldn't wait to see how they incorperate all the details into the movie and if they can capture the imagination of the readers.

message 119: by Stephanie (last edited Dec 17, 2012 08:20AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Stephanie It would be an amazing treat for the eyes if it's done correctly. There are so many visual elements in this book that could be absolutely stunning or go horribly wrong. seriously, if it is done flawlessly then I could see it going up for awards for visual effects & cinematography. I seen some saying it's a Tim Burton film yes I can definitely see this but again be careful.

message 120: by Wilma (new) - rated it 4 stars

Wilma Willis Only in the hands of Tim Burton.

message 121: by Lizzy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lizzy Mika wrote: "maybe tim burton could direct it...make it like Alice and WOnderland."

You mean have nothing to do with the book? I love Tim Burton, and his vision would make a fantastic atmosphere, but it must stick to the book. AinW did not. In fact, it was not like either of the books.

message 122: by Willow (new) - rated it 4 stars

Willow Bay Valerie wrote: "Yes, I would love to see a movie! It would be so amazing!"

THIS!

message 123: by Snow (new) - rated it 4 stars

Snow I don't know why but I think it would be amazing as a stop-motion film.

message 124: by Dawn (new) - rated it 2 stars

Dawn No, I thought this book started out amazing and then totally fizzled in the end.

message 125: by Rita (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rita Dewitt I almost fee that this book was written to be a movie. I think it could be wonderful.

message 126: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 31, 2012 08:51PM) (new)

I think it'd be a movie then book

message 127: by Asser (new) - rated it 4 stars

Asser YES! I'd love to see a movie for this! I can't imagine how amazing it would be on the big screen.

message 128: by Jenn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jenn Yes it should definately be made into a movie. Hollywood needs something fresh instead of all these remakes.

message 129: by Anita (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anita No, I don't think it should be made into a movie. The special effects required would put it in an Avatar budget, the director would ruin the storyline, and as much as I would love to see something like this as a movie, I think it would be impossible to do it well. I think the shifts between first and second person really help draw readers into the book and that would be difficult to do in a movie format. My vote is no. Leave it as a book. It's more magical to use your imagination.

Charlotte I would love it, but agree should be a tim Burton job, needs to be magical!! and happy to see Johnny Depp in it too :)

message 131: by Mish (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mish This would be a terrible book movie adaption. This book is amazing because everyone will experience it differently a movie would ruin that.

message 132: by Snow (new) - rated it 4 stars

Snow Mish wrote: "This would be a terrible book movie adaption. This book is amazing because everyone will experience it differently a movie would ruin that."

Good point, But i'm still kind of curious what they would do with all this. But I have to agree with you.

message 133: by Penny (new) - rated it 5 stars

Penny I think it would make an amzaing film, the special effects would be out of this world.

Janet Flora Corso Heck yes! And I agree, Burton and crew would do it well :)

message 135: by 1000 (new) - added it

1000 + I loved the book so much of course I'd like to see it on the big screen, however, I don't think they would be able to do it justice.

Nadosia Grey It would be interesting to see, however, I don't think that they could really capture the sheer details described in this book. Maybe it's best left with the imagination of readers.

message 137: by J.S. (new) - rated it 4 stars

J.S. Colley I thought this was already scheduled to be made into a movie? If done right, it will be spectacular.

message 138: by Alya (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alya Michelle wrote: "i don't think they should make it into a movie. I'm afraid that they might ruin it."

I agree. I just can't see how they'd translate all the subtleties that make this book so wonderful to me into a film. And all the special effects?
The beauty of this book (to me) is that even though it's so vividly described, it's so different for each individual. I don't want to ruin that with a movie, especially if they do it wrong.

If they did it right, however, it would be breathtaking.

Chelsea Nicole With the right speacial effects this would definitely be an amazing film. The special effects would have to be impeccable though. I would love to see it as a movie but there are a lot of fillers that would have to be added. With that said, I think it would do better as an indie film, that way it would be able to under perform but do all that it is capable of doing.

message 140: by Heath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Heath with the availability of CGI in cinema today, yes I think this book could easily be made into a movie.
Depending the actor's playing the parts would be the main obstacle

message 141: by [deleted user] (new)

Omg yes!

Pauline Savino I think it'd be interesting to see visually.

message 143: by Amanda (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amanda Duckworth I think a movie would be beautiful if done correctly and Tim Burton would be great or how about christoper nolan? But I think it would have to be done as a trilogy to do any justice to the book.

message 144: by Redd (new)

Redd Kaiman Can't it just stay a book, just this once?

Check out my webcomic: http://reddkaiman.blogspot.com/2013/0...

message 145: by John (new) - rated it 5 stars

John While the visual aesthetics could be captured, I doubt any of today's directors would be able to properly capture the actual mood of the book in an organized movie, especially with today's 1.5-2 hour constraints. There is less plot as there is character, and that's the beauty of this book. Too much happens that takes place outside of a camera's scope.
IMO, any movie attempt will only serve to lower this book's reputation.

John wrote: "While the visual aesthetics could be captured, I doubt any of today's directors would be able to properly capture the actual mood of the book in an organized movie, especially with today's 1.5-2 ho..."

Yeah true.

message 147: by Emily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emily (Fractured Mirror Publishing) I would love to see this a movie!

I don't know about Tim Burton. His aesthetic would be perfect for the film, however, so many of his movies end up being cartoonish in a way, and I feel like this movie would have to be handled much more seriously. =]

message 148: by Jaclyn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaclyn It would be a beautiful movie.

message 149: by Carol (new) - rated it 5 stars

Carol this will be hard to capture in a movie and do the book justice.

but the special effects people will have a wonderful challenge.

Beverly Yes! Would be hard to pull off but if the right person did it could be done. Of coarse a lot parts would be cut out which would be a shame for the fans of the book.
