I wonder how they would do on the story though. The book moves so slow to a lot of people it would be considered boring. The Night Circus's beauty is subtle and movies are anything but subtle. Movies need fast pace and action. I'm not sure how it would make the transfer from book to screen play.

I agree about the special effects, I think they could be amazing

Mika, yes, I can see this!

I think it would be a great movie if it could be well done and they could simplify the complexities of the plot for audiences.

Well, I'd like to see an adaptation if it were done right, but I'd rather that they didn't make a movie at all than make one which is anything short of perfect.
'Magical' is a binary state. It either captures your soul, inhabits your conscious thoughts and pervades your dreams... or it doesn't. A "nearly magical" adaptation wouldn't do justice to the book. It'd have to be perfect! And I don't have enough faith in Hollywood to get there.
If y'all want to throw around directors, it would have to be someone who can do, "dark yet fanciful". My pick would be Guillermo del Toro (see, for example, Pan's Labyrinth [2006]).

Absolutely - when I contemplated a film, I immediately thought of "Pan's Labyrinth". And yes, possibly 3-D as well...

Pans Labyrinth <3

This would be a film adaptation that would almost have to invent its own magic in order to tell its story, rather than rely on much of the magic of the book. This makes it very risky since many readers are so in love with the book in its entirety, an organic whole that is totally dependent on every one of its parts but greater than their sum.
I'm afraid everyone would end up disappointed in some significant aspect of the book that was changed and few, if any, would be thoroughly pleased. But the visuals might be so worth it!

Well said. I agree.

Mostly, is the fact that i have yet to see a movie based from a book, that i thought the createors did the book justice.
Also being that this sotry was a such a magical experince, it's highly unlikely that would be captured correctly on screen. Example, the Time Traveler's Wife movie, was aweful! I still can't believe i paid 10$ to watch one of my favorite stories be ruined on the big screen.
Hollywood is going to try to make a low budget film, and will lose all the magic that came to life in the book while reading. I want to keep my imagination of the book as the only verison, instead of the bad hollywood experience.
If they make a movie, of course i'll go watch it, then i'll be on here, commenting how they f*cked up the movie!!

Cinematography and special effects- definitely :D

That's a superb idea, and one in which a studio wouldn't be forced to put a "star" into a lead role just to attract dollars at the box office.

Exactly!!
