Carolyn (caroheartsbooks) | 897 comments so ive been debating reading jane eyre its not as good as jane austen is it?

message 1157: by [deleted user] (new)

It is def more dark than Austen but I wouldn't say it's not as good!

message 1158: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) It's definitely as good, Caro! I agree with Cari, it's a bit darker.

message 1159: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 215 comments I liked Jane Eyre better than Austen's works...it's one of my favorite books ever. It's more plot-driven, not as quotable, as Austen's writing, and does have some heavier themes. The writing is superb and absorbing. Once you begin, you probably won't be able to put it down very easily.
Although the plot is very different, the feel of the story is similar to Wilkie Collins's "Woman in White", which is another of my greatest favorites.

Miss Truelove Beckons Loving it so far. The title makes the book sound like a right chick-flick but it isn't, there are a lot more serious themes (linking to war) involved. I am really enjoying it though :)

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book I finished book 1 in the "Wicked" book but lost interest in book 2 so I'm not continuing with that series.

I finished the Wildwater Walking Club.

I've also since read Speedbumps Flooring it Through Hollywood by Teri Garr , attempted The Reading Group by Elizabeth Noble but it wasn't grabbing me, so now I'm trying South of Superior by Ellen Airgood

Michael (micky74007) Right now i am working my way through The Hot Country by Robert Olen Butler, set in Mexico and moving as slow as manana. A few passages were almost Hemingway-ish in style and power, but too few and too far between.
