I tried! Honestly! But all of Janet Dailey´s german books are out of print and I didn´t find much information. And since english and german titles don´t match I could only combine very few...

jenjn79 | 564 comments Thanks for trying, Inara! I'm working on trying to get some more translated. eBay has summaries for some of those old ones, which I'm picking out names from to match to an English version. Normally I wouldn't worry about it if it was just 2 or 3 titles, but there's a pile of them.

vicki_girl | 2764 comments Will someone who speaks Russian please look at this book by Arthur Conan Doyle.

It appears to be a Sherlock Holmes book, but I am coming up virtually nil on google...

Vitali (vitalinew) | 87 comments No problem! By the way, if you have trouble finding a russian book, try to put spaces between the numbers. Example I: 5885240558 and 5 88524 055 8. Example II: 5955504664 and 5 9555 0466 4. Usually it will bring more results.

vicki_girl | 2764 comments Thank you so much for the help on that one! I went to the link that you provided for this book, and saw that the contents appear to be listed. I thought I might add them, with the English titles to help other librarians in the future. I tried using an online translator and some educated guessing. Here is what I have:

Скандал в Богемии [A Scandal in Bohemia:]
Союз рыжих [The Red-Headed League:]
Тайна Боскомской долины [The Boscombe Valley Mystery:]
Пять апельсиновых зернышек [The Five Orange Pips:]
Пестрая лента [The Adventure of the Speckled Band:]
Палец инженера [The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb:]
Знатный холостяк [The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor:]
`Медные буки` [The Adventure of the Copper Beeches:]
Рейгетские сквайры [The Adventure of the Reigate Squire:]
Обряд дома Месгрейвов [The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual:]
Пляшущие человечки [The Adventure of the Dancing Man:]
Дьяволова нога [The Adventure of the Devil's Foot:]
Второе пятно [The Adventure of the Second Stain:]
Последнее дело Холмса [His Last Bow? The Final Problem?:]
Пустой дом [The Adventure of the Empty House:]

Please let me know if you think it looks right. I really need to know what that next to last one is...

message 59: by Vitali (new)

Vitali (vitalinew) | 87 comments Your translation is absolutely right, and the story "Последнее дело Холмса" is "The Adventure of the Final Problem".

jenjn79 | 564 comments For anyone who wants to help, author Jude Deveraux has some editions that I think may be Portuguese...not sure. And one edition (Kokain) in what may be German but it wasn't listed on my source of German translations for the author, so I don't know.

EDIT - nevermind on the German one. Turned on Amazon had the wrong author listed. I got the right author from Amazon.de

message 63: by Kara (new)

Kara Babcock (tachyondecay) | 63 comments Josef Škvorecký had a separate author page, Josef Skvorecky. I merged the two profiles and combined as many editions as I could.

I can't read Czech, unfortunately, so I don't know which, if any, of the non-English editions should be combined.

message 64: by Cait (new)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Would anyone who speaks German be interested in working on Otfried Preussler? There are some English and Spanish editions that need to be combined with their originals, I believe.

JG (Introverted Reader) | 487 comments Dante Alighieri has some works in Farsi that need to be looked at. Also a couple in German. Thanks!

message 66: by vicki_girl (new)

vicki_girl | 2764 comments This book is another Sherlock Holmes collection. The book is in German, but I can't find any sites that tell me the contents so I can combine it properly.

Note that the description says that it is "The red Circle and other stories", but the Title is only given as "The Red Circle"

Thank you.

Stefan Zweig could use some attention from a German speaker. A bit of Spanish too.

Beth Dufraine (sugarcookie263) | 4 comments I came across "Dancing With the Devil" here:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60...
and here:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...
(Both by Keri Arthur)
Shouldn't they be combined as other editions?

JG (Introverted Reader) | 487 comments You're right, Beth. I combined those two and also fixed what needed it on that author's other books. Thanks for pointing it out!

message 75: by JG (Introverted Reader) (last edited Jan 26, 2009 10:22PM) (new)

JG (Introverted Reader) | 487 comments Gabriel García Márquez is a multi-lingual mess. These are the languages I think I recognize:

Spanish (of course)
German
Farsi
A few Russian titles
Maybe some Portuguese?
Maybe some Dutch?

message 76: by Elly (new)

Elly (ellyj) | 29 comments I checked the Dutch books, and also combined some German books I recognised. I do not know enough of the other languages to check the rest.

JG wrote: "Gabriel García Márquez is a multi-lingual mess.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments A Russian-speaking librarian could probably do Ivan S. Turgenev a lot of good, and there are French, German, Portuguese(?), and Japanese titles in addition to the English and Russian.

I think you are refering Casa Grande.

In fact ir is a portuguese expression but as far as I can tell, that's the original name of the book.

David Fernandes (azserrata) | 16 comments Cait wrote: "A Russian-speaking librarian could probably do Ivan S. Turgenev a lot of good, and there are (...) Portuguese(?), (...) titles in addition to the English and Russian."

As far as I can see, there are no uncombined portuguese titles.

Could you be more specific about the ones you suspect?

Thank you,

Hmm -- It looks like either I was mistaking Spanish for Portuguese or someone's already combined all of the ones I was looking at. I should have kept a list! Sorry, and thanks for checking into it....

message 89: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 9 comments Hi guys! I'm having some issues with combining two translations of a book with the original publication of it, and was wondering if someone could help me? The author's name is Chris Dyer, but two different author pages comes up and I can't find the difference or how to join them. The original book(called Wanderlust) comes up as the only work at one of the author's profiles, while all other books comes up at the other profile. The three books that should be combined are Wanderlust, Helt på tur, and Doyan Jalan.

Sorry if my request is confusing, but I'd really appreciate the help. :) Thanks!

One of the authors profiles had an extra space. I merged them. I'll combine the books now.

Joseph Murphy could use some attention from a German speaker and from a French speaker.

message 94: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) L.E. Modesitt Jr. wrote Fires of Paratime & later, when he moved to a different publisher (Timescape to Tor), the book was released as The Timegod. Kate, the editor at Tor, told me it was supposed to be a re-write, but after reading it, there wasn't enough changed for either of us to tell the difference.

These books are currently listed as separate books. On Fantastic Fiction, they list the books separately too. They're really the same book, just different titles. Should I combine or not?

message 95: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

Not that I know Welsh, but I thought you should know that your link is just going to Goodreads in general, not a specific author's page.

message 99: by mlady_rebecca (new)

mlady_rebecca | 591 comments There is a cookbook that was being mis-attributed to urban fantasy author Laurell K. Hamilton.

I added an extra space to the author name to separate it out to a "different author" profile, but I think the author information is entirely wrong.

Foreign language title, not sure what the language is:

Dritter Sektor / Drittes System

Amazon is the one adding in the wrong author.

Thanks, in advance.

It is German, and Amazon.de gives no author, no editor. Worldcat knows the book, and gives 3 authors and a better title, I changed the information.
