Why did I wait so long to read this?! I love the world this author created. Highly recommend this for PNL romance lovers who want something that is not vampire, werewolf, etc. My only issue: the heroine is only 18 and I think I would have liked this better if she were older. The hero has loved her since birth and they shared a kiss when she was 16(!). (Ril is an immortal/long lived being).

I hope you start having better luck with picking books!

Review: This was a great excuse for me to finally start the Arcane Society series from this author that I've been putting off. I must admit that while I liked this story, I didn't love it.
The plot and surrounding mystery was very well set up, with twists and turns and snakes - oh my! The suspects were presented to keep the reader guessing and their motives very plausible. My disappointment stems from the vagueness in the romance. While I liked Venetia's and Gabriel's characters, I didn't get a real sense of WHY they have fallen for each other. They interact well, but though we are told they are each other's "the one" I don't see evidence of anything other than sexual chemistry in the narrative.
Great mystery, dry romance, good read. I'll continue with the series.
Shelf: Magic, Book:

Review: I don't even know where to start with this. I haven't had the greatest track record with this author, but have absolutely loved the world-building in this story. Kate is a fantastic heroine, kick-ass and yet vulnerably lonely. I'm going to have to buy the rest of the series and read them all!

And Arcane improves as you go along with some very interesting MCs.

Looks like I need to try Magic Bites one of these days.

You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'paranormal-mystery'.

Good Job!! :D

I first read this in 2000 when I was teaching 7th Grade English. Many of my students fell in love with this series, as did I. The re-read did not disappoint. I loved when Harry discovered he had a godfather. It's so sad the way his aunt and uncle treat him, now he has "family" and a tie to his parents. What was really interesting (and what I didn't remember) is that You Know Who does not even make an appearance in this installment. This is a wonderful series for all ages. Can't wait to re-read the next installment.

Wow- "New 2 You Series" is a game winning shelf (should it be called) for 3 teams! "2011" would be a winning shelf for 2 teams.

Sandy, saw this and thought it was topical for you :-)

There's so much action in this one. Mira makes even more enemies and gains more territory. (view spoiler) ["br"]>

Thanks, CaroB! I am excited to start this one.

Audrey I'd love to know how Iron Knight was. I plan on reading it one of these days.

Sandy your wish came true!! I was also determined to find a book I'd enjoy, that's why I didn't post until now :). when my copy of

Okay that was just rambling. Now for the review. I give Sacrificial Magic ★★★★. It was a very wonderful read, and I am glad that Ches sis actually starting to believe sh deserves better out of this life than being a druggie. Terrible is beyond awesome and sometimes I wanted to bitchslap Chess because she hurt him because of her own insecurities. But it was very worth the wait and I can't wait for Chasing Magic to come out in June!

I just want to apologize if I am taking longer that normal. I have come into reading rut. The books are good, but not in a reading mood lately. I am almost done with both books. Don't worry I am chugging onward. This slump won't last long.
Lady Jaye - so far The Iron Knight is pretty good.

so ahem, I went back and checked to make sure Sacrificial Magic was on the right shelf. Apparently it wasn't - it was on UF-PNR shelves instead of PNR-UF. So in case my entry doesn't count, here's one that's definitely on the correct shelf :)

Um yes - it would seem in the past month or so I have become quite violent in my reading, what with wanting to beat people, bitchslap people and shooting people. Hopefully I will be back to my peaceful self in April :)
