Lina PNR: Finished Bone Crossed (Mercedes Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs 05.03.12 ★★★★

After all the emotional turmoil of book #3 in this series, this was a great follow-up. I admire Mercy's determination to not be a victim, even as she reveals vulnerabilities which lend credence to her bravery. The thing that annoyed me here was that again there seems to be new information as far as the paranormal world goes... the Monster of Spokane was able to act in a way that was different from the vampires that Marcy already know. How is it that these century-old creatures are still learning things about their abilities? Chad was endearing and glad that the staff got given a purpose!

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Done! Stray (Shifters, #1) by Rachel Vincent (Paranormal Romance) 3/5/12 ★★★★

I was pleasantly surprised with Stray. I have seen this book around here on goodreads and decided to try it out. I am glad I did. I love Faythe. She is strong, but not to strong to be annoying (if that makes sense). I can respect the fact that she wanted to live a "normal" life and that she came to realize that being part of the Pride isn't too horrible. I can't wait to read the next book. I want see how she adjusts living with the Pride again (and Marc), her strange ability, and if she will take advantage of what her father wants to teach her. I will diffidently continue with the series.

Book: No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #3) by Kresley Cole
Rating: ★★★★

I was hesitant to read this because I didn't like A Hunger Like No Other. But, since I had it sitting in a pile, I thought what the heck. This one was much more enjoyable! The hero, Sebastian,a vampire who was turned against his will, was sweet and tried very hard to win the affections of his Bride. The heroine, on the other hand, was very unlikable and I kept thinking that Sebastian should find someone more deserving of his affections. I enjoyed the writing, which was very funny at times. I can now see why so many readers rave about the series. I will definitely read the next IAD book.

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments I finished! Thanks to Rachel for reading with me! Buddy reads are always fun. Yep, so I'm done with At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost . I give it ★★★½.

I enjoyed the story, despite excessively melodramatic dialogue in some places. Vlad is introduced in this one, and I think I like him even more than Cat and Bones. He is funny :D. Rachel has already heard me natter on about this, but her name is Catherine Kathleen Crawfield. Catherine Kathleen, really? And Tate...the least said about him, the better. I don't want Rachel to refuse to do buddy reads with me later because I keep complaining :(

Stamp, please, since I'm that last one, hehe.

message 256: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) LOL ... if you can't complain to your buddy about the book you gals are reading ....Then what is the point in a buddy read?

Yeeha! Great to hear :-) I don't think our stamp is too bad. Once we have this one, we'll be the only group that has three stamps along two lines of the card. At least, I think that's what I saw when I went snooping ;-)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Sandy - have you read the Aurora Teagarden series? I really liked that series. I have the Harper Connelly series on my to read self. Was #1 good?

message 278: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments No, I haven't but I'll check it out!
I didn't read #1...I skipped it because I was too lazy to go to the library, but enjoying #2 so far. :-)

Rachel-RN (rachelgoodbyeborders) | 1368 comments Paranormal Mystery
4* 3/14/12
All Together Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #7) by Charlaine Harris
Better than #6 since there wasn't a novella I should have read first (still miffed about that one). There are a lot of subplots in this one and it was difficult keeping them all straight. I'm curious to see where Sookie's relationship goes with Quinn- he seems to genuinely care for her. I liked the ending with Quinn and Andre (yes!). Then there's her "relationship" with Eric (I think he is my fav, but I'm really liking me some Quinn too).

message 281: by Lady Jaye (new)

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Wait - isn't she married to Eric at some point in time?

message 282: by SandyC (new)

message 283: by Lady Jaye (new)

message 286: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 342 comments I finished my book for Paranormal Mystery, Grave Surprise (Harper Connelly, #2) by Charlaine Harris . This is book 2 in the Harper Connelly Series. I probably should have read Book 1 first because I felt like I didn't get to know the character very well, but that's my own fault. Having read all of the Sookie Stackhouse books, I kept thinking of Harper as "Sookie," but again that is my problem.

Overall, this was a solid 3 stars. Harper was struck by lightning when she was younger and as a result she has a special ability to "see" how a person died by being in close proximity to the corpse. When she finds the body of a young girl who has been missing for several months, the case is reopened and Harper, along with her stepbrother Tolliver, become involved with the investigation. I thought this was a pretty good mystery, and I wasn't able to figure out the culprit. I've read some mysteries where I just didn't give a flying fig who did it and I just wanted to dang book to end. This was not one of those books. I enjoyed reading it and I will read more in the series.

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Done with Ghouls Just Haunt to Have Fun (Ghost Hunter Mystery, #3) by Victoria Laurie (paranormal mystery) 3/15 ★★★★

M.J Holliday is off to California to do a show about Psychic's "reading" different objects. Steve, her boyfriend, and Gilly, her partner, are with her. She meets a fellow psychic name Heath. They end up working together for the show. Then a knife ends up in front of them ... it turns out that there is an evil spirit attached to it. Things go from bad to worse. Several ghost haunt the hotel that they are staying at. Heath and M.J. go from one show they came to California to do to doing another show based on them busting (sending them to the light) the ghost at the hotel and deal with the evil spirit attached to the knife.

I have really enjoyed the books in this series so far. I never know how it is going to turn to. I am thinking it will turn up one way and it doesn't! I will be finishing the series.

Lady Jaye (lady-jaye) | 598 comments Hi everyone. I actually ended up reading Hexed (Includes Kate Daniels, #4.5) by Ilona Andrews instead of Stolen, because I've owned hexed for almost 1 year. Here's my long review of each novella. On the whole i give the entire book ★★★.

This anthology was a very mixed bag. I have owned a paper copy for close to a year. I started it and could not even get through the first story. Thanks to a challenge, though, I took the opportunity to make myself read it.

Magic Dreams by Ilona Andrews - 5 stars
Jim has a death spell of some kind hovering over his head and Dali must help him figure it out and break it or else he dies. I loved it. I loved the mythology, and I liked Dali and her family (her mom's hilarious). Two things I noticed: JIM IS A BLACK MAN?!!!! However did I miss that? Did everyone else know it? The second thing is that Dali thinks Kate is gorgeous. I smiled because Kate thinks she is not beautiful. Without a doubt this was the best story in the anthology. By far.

Ice Shards by Yasmine Galenorn - 2 stars
flat and uninspired. To compound it, there were so many characters, each with their own backstory. So for someone like me who hasn't read anything by Ms. Galenorn or the series from which this novella comes, it was hella confusing. I didn't enjoy this one.

Double Hexed by Allyson James - 1.5 stars
This story is set in the Stormwalker world, starring Janet Begay and her entourage. I knew I wasn't going to like this one. The two Stormwalker books I read were bad reading experiences for me, and it was no different this time. Every single character in that world is an idiot. Every.single.one. And yes, it's not very complimentary, so I sorta feel bad saying that about an author's work, but really, those characters make me want to shoot them. I was rooting for the demon to do us a big favor and kill them all, but alas, no one cares what I think, so that wish was ignored.

Blood Debt by Jeanne C.Stein - 3 stars
A completely new-to-me-author. I don't even have any idea what series this novella comes from. But I think the author did a good job. I was annoyed sometimes because the heroine seemed a bit too Mary-Sueish, but that could just have been me being peckish. It was a good story and I think I am interested enough to check out the series.

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) WOW ... Lady Jaye - remind me NOT to read any anthologies for this game. LOL
