I had my list of choices already picked but I'll see if I find a book that fits S&L too. :)ETA: Wow, it seems most chick-lit never gets abandoned! I just checked the first 15 pages of that shelf and I only found two chick-lit books: one I've already read and the other is a second in a series I haven't read!
Grrr...

When I find a later one in a series on the shelf, I go to the series, then pick the first book I haven't read, and then search in ITS list of shelves for the shelf-of-the-moth. I often find that if a later one is on the shelf, the one I want is, too, just with fewer people choosing it, so it's on a later page I might never have gotten to. You might find the first in the series.

My goal for February is to make it through
, which is my oldest TBR book. It also happens to be on the Abandoned shelf. :) If I finish that one within the month, I'll keep rolling with another abandoned book
A lot of my favorite books are on the Abandoned shelf. Kind of surprising to see what some people give up on!
Woo-hoo! My hold at the library just came through for two e-pub books from ya series I love, which are on the abandoned list. One of them, The Scorch Trials is on the e-books list I need for snakes & ladders as well, so I'll definitely start with that. The other, Ark Angel is on the "e-book" shelf, but not the "e-books" shelf. I hate when that happens!
After those, I'll definitely be guided by what comes up on Snakes & Ladders, but I'm finding a lot on my TBR on the list. Good possibilities:
The Power of Six
Pathfinder
The City and the City
Divergent
The Dead and the Gone
One Day
A lot of ya dystopias there, which I love!
Also By the Time You Read This, I'll Be Dead from my LOST list.
I'm loving this shelf!

I made a list and lost it!!!but I remember that I had Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close which is my S&L book, Leviathan which also fits this month if I can get it done
I've still to decide on my S&L book but all of the ones that I have to choose from are also on this shelf.I'm leaning towards The High Lord
I hit the motherlode here. I am going to read The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón which fits my LOST challenge, the S & L challenge, is on the abandoned shelf AND is a group read in another group. Plus I think it fits a few other challenges that I am doing.
If I have time, I am also planning to read A Game of Thrones which I have been trying to get to for a long time.

I had surgery this month, so I've not gotten to several of the books I wanted to read this month (and thus will be late to the Speculative Fiction reviewing for January,) but there are books I wanted to get to this month on the Abandoned shelf, as well as books I already had planned for February due to other group reads. So this shelf pick works quite well for me!The Dispossessed (also my first book for Snakes & Ladders)
1Q84
I'll start with those. There are many other books on my TBR that are also on this shelf.
Leviathan finally came in, and it does not look like I will get done with Jane Eyre in January, since I have only completed 106 of 639 pages. So I might get those two read for this shelf also as they are on the list.
If I don't get to Leviathan this month (which I probably won't), I'll do it next month. Also, there's two I've picked up multiple times and not finished, which I may try in February:Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Game of Thrones
I'm planning to start with A Tale of Two Cities and Suite Française as they are also on two of my challenge lists for the year. If I have time, I may also read Cleopatra.
I am pretty excited! Beautiful Creatures is on the list and I can use it for the Snakes and Ladders. A Game of Thrones is also on it and since I forgot about it this month...I figured I would try again this month.
starting off with A Dirty Jobmoving on to Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto, really excited about this one.
I'd love to try Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell this monthOtherwise there are several other options just from my TBR list:
The Blind Assassin
Brave New World
Perdido Street Station
A Thousand Splendid Suns
Lady Chatterley's Lover
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
Or maybe I can finally finish The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory which I got half way through a year ago then never finished.
I'm going with Never Let Me Go . It's perfect for Snakes & Ladders and is one of the books the randomizer picked for my Random Reading Challenge. I might be able to use it for A-Z Challenge as well, but perhaps I should read something else for N to not get the easy way out :)

I'll just have to read different books in these shelf. That is, if I ever feel like reading again.
Here are the ones I'm thinking of reading.Catch-22
A Game of Thrones
Wolf Hall
The Girl Who Played With Fire
The Name of the Rose
The Eyre Affair
The Graveyard Book
A Discovery of Witches
What an interesting shelf! As I was going through I noticed a lot of books I really liked and a lot that I also hated/gave up on. Not many that I was "meh" about. I guess they're mostly books that at least provoke a strong reaction, good or bad.So I'm going to definitely read: A Discovery of Witches
And I'm going to try to get to either: Feed (which has been on Mt. TBR forever) or Shades of Grey

Hope you enjoy GWTW :) but if you decide to abandon that one, move straight on to
The Grapes of Wrath it's amazing!

I noticed some of my favorite books were on the shelf and then I also noticed that a lot of the books I abandoned (but I labeled my shelf a different name) were on the shelf too.
I listened to the first 10 disks of Outlander last year but lost interest. Time to give it another shot. Uglies is the book I'm starting with for Snakes & Ladders and it is on the abandoned shelf too. Once the game gets going, I'm sure I'll find more abandoned books. It's amazing how many great books people gave up on!
If you notice, the list is full of really popular books or classics.I figure that a lot of people start a popular book, figure out it's not their cup of tea and abandon it. And tons of people can't take classics.
Ya, like many of you have said, the thing that I like best about this shelf is the realization that everyone's tastes are so different.
I'm going to try to get to two from my LOST list which are also on the abandoned shelf:* The Akhenaten Adventure by P.B. Kerr
* Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card
and Enclave which was chosen for me in the Pick-a-Book Chain Gang.
Yay! I found a chick-lit book from my TBR on the abandoned shelf! It took me a while to find it, but I knew that somebody had to have abandoned Bridget Jones's Diary. And I was right! 3 people did. :)That will probably be my first read of the month (I think I'll be ready to start reading tomorrow.)
I am planning on starting with Nineteen Minutes since it fits both the shelf for the month and the Snakes & Ladders game. I am sure I will fInd more as the month goes on.
I have quite a few on the shelf that I would like to read and some that I already owned that I just haven't gotten to yet and also some that I abandoned myself! Looks like a great shelf! Here is what I am looking at to start:Graceling
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
The Book Thief
American Gods
We'll have to see from there!
I've promised someone I'd finish up the The Hunger Games series, and lucky me books two and three are on the Abandoned list :) I have a huge stack of books I'd love to read, but will probably only get to a couple ;)Catching Fire
Mockingjay
The Mists of Avalon
Cleopatra
In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin

I like your list, though, Tina. I think most of those are on my list of to reads also. Except the last one which I have already read. It was an amazing book.
How have you been lately?

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies for our game (rolled a 6 - 2009). I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it, if you get a chance to read it too.
Sooo...on Wednesday I started reading what I thought was Bridget Jones Diary...but it turned out to be the sequel! Of course, I noticed this once I had read around 80 pgs. (sigh)Anyhow, I was lucky that my local library had the 1st book and I was able to get it there. I already started it so I'm not that far behind. ;)

There's been a few times where I've started reading the book to find out it's one way further in a series. So frustrating! Sometimes I feel all sequel's should be required to have a number on them somewhere LOL
I had planned to read Water for Elephants if I landed on square 1 (historical) for our game but have skipped past that but its on the Abandoned list anyway so all good. Can't decide whether to start with this one though or Pride and Prejudice and Zombies my pick for the game???
Watership Down by Richard Adams (who could abandon this?!?)American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
I just realized that all the books I have read this month are on the Abandoned shelf! Jane Eyre (read for Pick-A-Chain Gang) - Leviathan (read for SRC group read and for this shelf) - Dead Until Dark (read for SRC 50.1 task - Catching Fire (read for SRC 50.1 task.
My current reads are also there too: The Other Boleyn Girl (reading for S&L) - Seabiscuit: An American Legend (reading for SRC 50.1 task) - Red Poppies: A Novel of Tibet (reading for SRC 25.7 task).
Isn't that a hoot? So many good books on the ABANDONED shelf!
I will post links to my reviews for the ones read later.
