Terri | 19576 comments I missed it, just waking up. Thankyou, Margaret, for catching that disaster.
Sorry to anybody who got abused by fellow members. That is not what happens in this group. I will never condone abuse against others. Abuse a president or a Prime Minister, sure, why not, but each other? No. Never allowed.

Hi there, Carlos, great to see you pop in. :-)

Everything is fairly good here.
We are in severe drought which is no fun, but other than that, all is well. We are safe from bush fires for the time being.

Terri | 19576 comments I have just removed the member from the group. I haven't seen any comments, but I have seen a complaint against this member's posts and someone got sworn at and I have zero tolerance for that.

So, let's go back to enjoying what we were. Kind and caring and patient and fun.

I am going to write more reviews than last year, and I am going to read more chunksters from my TBR.

I would like to say I am going to finish crocheting my blankie, but that would be setting myself up for failure.

Aw. That's lovely. I do that, but its an Aussie country girl thing, I think. I am a bit like that scene in Crocodile Dundee where he goes to New York and tries to say hello to everyone on the street. lol I feel rude walking past somebody and not smiling, or nodding and smiling, or saying hello and smiling.

If anyone can figure out a quick and easy way to lose weight, please share with the rest of us. The older I get, the heavier I get :)
Oh, to be young, and nimble, and fit.

Andy | 1511 comments For all those talking of diets etc...... An old tip.... Get the metabolic rate working early in the morning so your body will burn calories earlier & more effectively

The other thing is fluids, the Japanese swear by drinking 4 cups of water in the morning before the imbibe anything else.... its called Japanese Water Therapy if you don't believe me ;)

message 16386: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I find, I just cannot lose weight unless I exercise. I can practically starve myself but if I am not out doing a lot of physical activity, I just won't drop weight.
And it has to be a lot of exercise. because I am already active on the farm with walking and climbing hills chasing cattle, my heart rate won't get up unless I really push. A gentle walk won't help me. And it's too bloody hot over here to push myself right now. haha

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments 15 yrs or so ago, I lost 135 lbs over about 18 mths (300 lbs down to 165 lbs)

Exercise was a big part of it - I was walking 6-8 miles a day (40-45 miles a week). I was also trying very hard to follow the US gov'ts food pyramid in what I ate - except for starches - I limited my self to 10-12 serving per day. Also I found it very important to stay hydrated. I was drinking 3 or 4 qts of water a day spread through out the day.

Then came the yr from hell - MIL died, BIL died, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer and died, all within about 18 mths. At the same time everyone going to meet their maker, my FIL had quintuple bypass surgery and was a real pill during his rehab. During that time frame, I started stress eating and went back up to about 225. Also my walking fell from 45 miles/wk to maybe 25. This year I've determined to get back on course. I've recently got my milage back up to about 35-40 mls/week and lost 25 lbs (back down to 200) My goal is 180 by July

Marilyn (mbk1857) | 415 comments Congratulations, happy. That’s some feat! Keep up the good work. Exercise + food portions works best, at least for me. Also, I stay off the scales. I let my clothes tell me how I’m doing. If you have trouble pulling up your pants or they start falling off you, that’s a good sign you need to do something. I avoid scales because if they show I’ve lost weight I tend to congratulate myself by eating that no-no.

message 16393: by happy (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments I do weigh my self weekly (sunday mornings) and track my weight in a spread sheet along with everything I eat - when I'm loosing, its good reinforcement, and when I'm not it is a good kick in the pants to get with the program:)

message 16394: by May (new)

May (mayzie) | 968 comments Well done, Happy. Stress eating does is all in some time or another. Going back to what worked is a healthy path to success!! Wishing you that success!!

Adrian Deans (adriandeans) | 293 comments Hey chaps, haven't been around much lately as OS for a while then very busy with work and Xmas.

My wife is a GP with a keen interest in diet/nutrition etc. She swears there is only one sustainable way to lose weight (and keep it off) and that is to acquire the discipline to eat less, eat healthily, and exercise in appropriate fat burning ways. She also says to limit alcohol but she's clearly wrong on that score.

Her best tip (on the water theme) is to drink a big glass of water whenever the hunger pangs bite because a gutful of water can make you feel sated...for a while.

Best wishes and good luck to anyone coping with bushfires.

Just to clarify, I said I need to diet, but that is by no means a new years resolution. Its more like a fantasy 🤣🤣

I agree with smaller portions, water and exercise. I have had success with Dukan, but it was hard work. I would rather carry the extra kilos.
