I have been with this outfit 20 years but I guess that means nothing. Saving $$$ is nice, but customer service is more important, I'm finding.

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Sorry I've been virtually AWOL. I'm looking at the business end of my book being published and have become frantically busy. Blurb for the back has been done, have been emailing the cover designer. Hopefully will get a mock-up of the cover by the end of the week. An exact publication date will be set after that.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments Just go back from the annual trip to Cedar City and the Utah Shakespeare Festival.

Great as usual. The plays we attended

Shakespeare

Hamlet (indoor stage)
MacBeth (outdoor stage)
Twelfth Night (outdoor stage)
Henry VI parts 2 and 3 (on one ticket, small black box theater)

Non Shakespeare

The Book of Will (outdoor stage)

relatively new play about the creation of the First Folio of Shakespeare I think it was the best play this season and one of the best ones I've seen them put on

Joseph and the Amazing... (indoor stage) The obligatory musical (this is Utah after all :))

Driving down, about 60 miles out of Cedar City, I-15 was closed due to a grass fire. That caused an 1 1/2 detour and we barely made Joseph. Coming home, there was quite a burnt out spot on both sides of the Interstate. I-15 was legitimately closed!

Terri | 19576 comments Hope the fires aren't as bad over there in the US as they were last year. Those California fires. Awful.

The Amazon burning is awful too. Absolutely devastating for our earth's lungs.

It has actually been a fairly quite fire season here (Knock on wood)

A couple of comments on the plays - USF's take on Hamlet was a bit different - there was actually quite a bit of humor in it. Also,Ophelia does not commit suicide, but is murdered. She is also portrayed as pregnant with Hamlet's child. In the discussions the next morning, the leader of the play seminar (USF has seminars about the previous days plays), explained that nowhere in the original text does it say Ophelia takes her own life, the text merely says is that she drowned. I thought it was an interesting interpration.

If the two Henry's had not been performed back to back and I didn't know the actual history, I would have been totally lost in part III.. Part II had a lot of character developmen and explanation. Part III was one battle scene after the other. It does have one of my personal favorites of Will's lines - from the Jack Cade rebellion scenes, the rebels are discussing what they are going to do - one of them pipes up with, "First, Kill all the lawyers" : They ended the preformance with the actress playing Richard, Edward IV brother, giving the opening liines of Richard III, "Now is the winter..." They are putting on Richard next year.)

The Book of Will was written by Lauren Gunders in 2016.
In keeping with the reason for the group it is fantastic HF. The author really plays up the contribution of Heminges and Condell's wives. I really liked the way the USF chose to end it.
(view spoiler)
Hamlet, MacBeth and Twelfth Night were all near sell outs.

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments Ummm, you mean Ophelia. Cordelia is in Lear, not Hamlet.

Hamlet actually hints that Ophelia is pregnant. The flowers she hands out and talks about are all abortificants.

You're right, fixed. Sorry, got my shakespearian ladies mixed up :)
The discussion leader said that is why they choose to play her that way.

Hi May. The book is being released on 25th October. My publisher is going all out on pushing it. It's available through Amazon USA, UK, UAE, and Australia, Book Depository, Booktopia, Barnes & Noble, Target USA, and several Scandinavian book sites! I've done my first interview with another scheduled for after the book's release. I have a real appreciation for the saying "I don't know whether I am coming or going". Because that's how I feel at the moment. One excited whirlwind.

Why? Would you like to talk about the ashes? ;-)

Or maybe we need to discuss playing the poms in the Rugby seeing as Wales will be the top of our pool, which brings Wallabies and Lions up against each other.

Terri | 19576 comments Oh, Andy. That Michael Cheika, he just bugs the heck out of me. Why did we ever give away Eddie Jones. :(

I wait every year for Cheika to get the sack, and still Rugby Australia roll him out and still Cheika rolls out some really poor team selections and run on squads. It infuriates me. Will Genia and Kurtley Beale practically handed the Luons that win.

message 16198: by Andy (last edited Oct 21, 2019 03:18AM) (new)

Andy | 1511 comments He does strike me as a bit of a whiner Terri, always making excuses & blaming refs seems to be his trademark..... and Yes Genia was spectacularly lacklustre with Aussie errors a plenty

Me I have dual nationality & when it comes to rugger I follow firstly the Irish :( who forever peak in the year BEFORE the world cup, always destined to fall at the QF stage & normally with a bang too.... jus not at the races yet again & destroyed themselves with an error strewn game against the AB's...... mind I look forward to next weekend as I believe Jolly Ol Ingerland wont give the AB's so many chances, so we'll see how they go then.

Was a real shame to see Japan finally loose to, its been a grand tourney so far much of it down to the spirit & support of the host Japanese who have fully embraced the game & deserve to be accepted to a top tier tournament going forward (along with Fiji) - lets hope ruby finally opens up her doors to the developing nations and not jus every four years!
