Mara, this is not normal. Just one bad egg.

Terri | 19576 comments Thanks everyone. I am feeling a little tougher about it now. If only GR would remove her blog post and give her a warning. Not nice to be on the receiving end of something like this. Adds stress to my life for no reason.

I have never been one to ask others to fight my battles, but I suppose it isn't fighting my battles if people wanted to flag her blog post. Only if you feel it is inaproppriate and not conducive to a positive Goodreads community.

I would have thought GR would have gotten my flaggings of her private message and blog post and yet the blog post is still there.

Hi Mara, as Ace says, it is a bad egg situation. I often cop vicious verbal attacks in private messages from authors. Where I get called all sorts of things, because I wouldn't let them spam the group.

But it rarely spills out into A&M. Members don't even know it's going on. This time, because this particular author has gone over the top, and it is enough to make me think about walking away from the site, I have brought it into the open.
If I can weather this smear campaign and that blog post is taken down, then everything will be just how it was. Us readers enjoying our hist fic together.

I'm sorry to hear about this - If you do decide to go (I really hope you don't) you will definately be missed! You contributions and dedication have made this place what it is, one of my favorite groups on GR.

Terri | 19576 comments Gee Pax. That is the most incrediblely bolstering post. I am so touched.

Thanks to Happy too.

I am feeling like if I left it would be the worst breakup I've ever had! And that I would let a lot of people down. :(

Must think.
Need to hear from Goodreads.
I sent them a message explaining how wrong the whole thing is and how authors shouldn't be allowed to use that blog post feature to target others on this site.
hoping they will listen.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments Terri wrote: "...not familiar with this cook. Is he a heston Blumenthal type cook. Doing whacky things with food?..."

I'm not familiar with Mr. Blumethal, so I don't know. As to the other question - Not really - his recipies are fairly straight forward. In his Good Eats program, which ran for 10 yrs, he does use humor - and campy puppets to explain some of the science behind cooking.

Dawn writes: have to say that I've never really thought of Alton Brown as a chef or cook.
I know him as the host of the American Iron Chef show.

He told a story from his first year hosting the Iron Chef

One of Japanese chefs from the original Iron Chef series came over and during the compition made Trout Ice Cream. His description of his reactions as the chef was making the custard and put a whole trout, head, fins and tail included into the blender and then when the chef brought the ice cream over for him to taste was hilarious. His final take "Trout does not belong in Ice Cream!!!!!"

To personally attack you in such a public way is completely unwarranted. I hope you stick around Terri, you are the glue in this place!!

Terri | 19576 comments As that womans GR blog post is still up and I haven't heard back from Goodreads I think I have my answer. They have no intention of moderating this crazy, vindictive author.

I have always been against people promoting their blogs, but this maybe a time when it isn't about self promotion..my blogs may be the only way I'l be able to stay in touch.

I have set up a new blog and I have started removing my reviews over to there. http://rampantreviewer.blogspot.com.au/

Of course I'll still have my hist fic blog which was set up to run in conjunction with A&M Group. It will just become my personal hist fic blog once I am not on GR anymore http://ancientandmedievalmayhem.blogs...

That's that then.

I'll still be around for a few days as it will take me a while to paste my reviews to my new blog. But I won't go until I have said goodbye. Which will be in a few days I'd say.

Andy | 1511 comments Ive not been following Random thoughts for a while so missed out on all this til now.....

Coupla things mate...

Its your grp, your rules, sure others have said similar so dont beat yerself up. The admin/moderation at this site has been primo as everybody (bar the occassional) gets on very well & the vibe/ambiance is always very good & attracts folk in the first place to join in.

We'd miss you & jus maybe you'd miss us too, even the poms ;)

Youd never know if I ever got to finish "Lions of Cairo" :D

Hugs & kisses, Andy

Terri | 19576 comments I'd definitely miss everyone. I've been crying all day. It is a MASSIVE step to leave you all. But I am too fed up with the abuse I cop from these unstable authors. Just so tired of it all.

I needed to know that when I got dragged down publicly by one of these crazy critters, that Goodreads would have my back. Because it is wrong for authors to use their GR blog feature to cause negativity to other members of the site.

So it is only half the author that has driven me off. It is Goodreads too. They always protect their authors. It shows me that the next time I piss off one of these mentally unstable people, whether by moderating them or in a review, they can humiliate me to the GR community, and Goodreads will let them do it.

Meri (aussie_bookworm) | 66 comments I'm really sad to see you go but I completely understand your reasons. Have added your blogs to my favourites. Still rather amazed that GR are not doing anything about this. If they can't back their group moderators then who will they back?

message 11828: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (catjackson) It is gone; the blog post must have been deleted. I would encourage you to stay Terri. You are one of the reasons I joined this group; because of the wonderful way you moderated the threads and were open and transparent about what you were doing. I will understand if you do decide to leave, but reconsider.

Simona | 1453 comments Terri, I'm late to this discussion, but we are what now? 2000? 2500? It's a small town. Large enough to have petty thieves, vandals, and disgrunted losers that will write "the mayor is sh*t" on the city hall wall.
If following this group makes you unhappy you will obviously do what's better for you.
But are you sure that leave the small town you helped to build will make you feel happier?

There are many people here that would gladly help to repaint the city hall wall. As many time as it's necessary. And happily have a drink with you after that.

Terri | 19576 comments Astounded. I am actually astounded. I never thought they would have my back!

Thanks to everybody for your support, thanks to everybody who flagged her blog post.
Goodreads has taken it down and spoken with her about her inappropriate activity on the site.

How could I leave now!! When Goodreads has come through and I realise so many people need me to stay here and steer this ship (or was it put on the mayoral robes..loved Simona's small town description..:D..thanks Simona).

My biggest concern was that they weren't doing anything. that it took them so bloody long. The longer it took them them more my good reputation and the good reputation of the group got smeared.

I didn't need the stress in my life of such a personal attack. I didn't want it staying there in her GR blog posts forever. I also didn't want to have to worry everytime I moderated an author, that they were going to smear my name again and Gr would do nothing.

now I know that I am protected from that kind of behaviour I will stay and IF any authors break my author Posting rules, I can moderate them and not worry that they are allowed to then drag my name and the group's name through the mud. :D

Thanks again everybody who flagged and everybody who helped get my spirits up over the last couple days with your kind support.
I am so touched. You have made me grab my tissues on many occasions yesterday. :D
