Ann Sorry, I'm a little behind the times. Glad it was resolved.

message 11902: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Yes, they did take it down Ann. And saved us the trouble of trying to survive without Terri. :)

message 11904: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I think enough people flagged it that Goodreads didn't have a choice.

Allison | 1704 comments Gretchen - Was playing trivia crack on Facebook and the question "What is the football team of Minnesota called"? I was so excited knowing a Sports question!! Thanks to you buddy :)

Margaret - I went to a "Why Do We Love Sherlock Holmes"? Discussion at the library last week and couldn't wait to tell you! Unfortunately, the so called "expert" speaker only talked about ACD and had to do so while reading out of a book!! Major disappointment :(

I am so glad I could help. I love Trivia Crack but nobody wants to play with me because I always win.

Allison | 1704 comments The Sports questions kill me. I'm a die hard hockey fan... want to know how many of those come up for me? Two. Two out of a gazillion football or summer Olympics questions. Ugh.

The art questions tend to trip me up which is kind of surprising since most of them tie into history so closely.

message 11910: by Allison (last edited Mar 08, 2015 04:30PM) (new)

Allison | 1704 comments That is surprising because most of them are about literature and I know you're a reader!!! lol. If its actually about Art or books, I'm good. The musical instruments questions get me....I NEVER studied music in school.

message 11911: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I get a lot of artist specific questions like "Who painted....? And what kind of art did so and so paint? What century was this form of art created?" I don't know that stuff.

message 11912: by Allison (new)

Allison | 1704 comments That's funny... for being the subject of Art, I hardly ever get those questions!!

My family/friends wont play me either. I have to use the random option.

Oh goodness, I'm good on any of the arts -- it's sports or pop culture that throw me.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments When I was younger - when we played Trival Pursuit - It was me against everyone else - I still normally won :)

message 11915: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 728 comments Same for me Happy! And I almost always nailed the history ones. Sport? I don't know what that is.

message 11916: by Andy (new)

Andy | 1511 comments Try playing a recent version of Trivial pursuit & you get History questions about celebs & even Beckham (David)!!! :( Dumbing down.

Always loved the original version esp the Arts & literature section (Impossible were the Brown questions!)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments TRIVIAL PURSUIT can be fun in teams, but since I found this Turner Classic Movie channel, nothing has been the same. I watched the first TOPPER movie with Cary Grant last night and laughed out loud for at least an hour. It is slapstick comedy, but everyone needs to belly laugh now and then. Go back to your board games, sorry for the interruption:-)

message 11920: by Jane (new)

Jane | 3480 comments I leave the tv on the Turner Channel for the most part. I had seen Topper before, but the movie just previous was great: Ghost & Mrs. Muir. Now I see why Rex Harrison was picked for My Fair Lady--same kind of curmudgeonly part.

It was so stupid. We didn't even cover that! Should have been named "Let me read you someone else's words on ACD". (which should have been an interesting subject anyway but she kept screwing up! I think a child could have done a better job.)

message 11924: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 728 comments On a completely different tangent: I really dislike this whole job interview thing! You put in a gazillion applications, people don't get back to you, I hate trying to sell myself, as I don't have that kind of confidence, and then there is this big waiting game. "Sighs, goes looking for chocolate".

Cary Grant is one of my three favorite actors of all time- Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda being the other two.

I have a hard time picking a favorite Cary Grant movie

message 11928: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I think mine is 'The Philadelphia Story'. Gotta love Jimmy Stewart in that one too .

message 11929: by happy (last edited Mar 09, 2015 10:37PM) (new)

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments That is definately on the list - along with "Bringing up Baby", "Father Goose", "North by Northwest", "The Bishop's Wife", "People Will Talk", "Operation Pettycoat", "Mr. Blanding Builds his Dream House", "Arsenic and Old Lace" - the list goes on and on :)

message 11932: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments Some of you are having major real life problems. We have all been there, are there or will be there. That is not comforting, I know. The only comfort will be in hearing someone say 'You're hired!'

message 11933: by Bobby (new)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments In my life I've had a lot of "major real life problems"..... from serving in an unpopular war, to going through divorce to losing a young son and all I can tell you is hang in there....better times ALWAYS come. I'm not a religious nut, by any means, but faith has been the rope to grab when I've fallen. Hopefully you have friends and/or family. Use them....in a good way.... that's one of the reasons they are there. And know you would do the same for them.

In other news! Hope to move to Panama in a few months and leave this ALLLLLLL behind! Wee wife and I have been looking to do this for a long time and "long time" is almost here. Will keep you posted!

message 11934: by Darcy (last edited Mar 10, 2015 11:51AM) (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I really quite enjoyed Panama. Whereabouts in the country are you thinking of transplanting to?

Oh, and if you find yourself answering the door to a kooky Canadian...well, you've been warned ha!

message 11935: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 728 comments Thanks Linda and Bobby. Just venting a little. I try not to take it too seriously when some people have much more serious issues. Spot on with family, Bobby. There was much hugging last night. We live with family and that's pretty cool. I will just keep trying, it's what you have to do. :)

Panama! Why Panama?

message 11936: by Bobby (new)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments Looking in the Coronado area about an hour from Panama City. They have a program in Panama called "pensionado " and it's to entice Americans and Canadians to move there. You have to show an income of $1300/month. Gee, wonder where they got that amount? Social Security?? Yep. Pensionado gets you 25-50% off of ALL services. Airline tickets, transportation, food, utilities etc. lots of retirees headed there. It's now the number 1 retirement country in the world for Americans!

message 11937: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 728 comments Wow. Clever marketing. And for you personally is it a climate/lifestyle thing or you just like it there?

message 11938: by Dawn (new)

message 11940: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (eab2012) I could use a nanny/assistant. I pay in baked goods and hot meals. Bonuses include lots of hugs and giggles.

message 11941: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 728 comments Good luck to you too Allie!! Thanks

I knocked back the Harley shop this morning, and that kind of thing always leaves you feeling a little sick on the stomach, wondering when will the next one call, should I have done that! More chocolate required.

You know Gretchen I would definitely be up for that, especially the baked goods. The commute will be a bitch though. Hehe

That sucks mate. I hate that feeling of waiting for the call that may never come. It puts your life completely out of whack, and sometimes means you have to put things off (like more interview) in case you get good news on the one you want.

Sorry you have to deal with that emotional rollercoatser.

To you other comment...finally you are nearing your Panama goal. Congrats! :)

Your wife's breast cancer too, Bobby. that would have been a difficult life hurdle for you.

message 11948: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Allie, still no sign of a job? For some reason I had it in my head that you had started a new one late last year. Am I imagining things or did that job not work out?

maybe I am just remembering that you final got your moving sorted out and you'd settled into the new place.

message 11949: by Allison (new)

Allison | 1704 comments I wish! You must have been imaging it lol. I did move so that could be it.

I just passed the two year mark!!! NEVER thought that would happen to me :( but no one is realizing how awesome I am ;)

Put a few applications in to the small diners/family restaurants around here just for some $$ to hold me over and even they don't want me! What a blow to my ego.

Right now, I just seem to be my sister's (free) babysitter. But I can't really complain about time spent with my nephew :)

If I offered a dozen per tantrum, I think you'd weigh 300 lbs by nap time.
