I believe you have both right, although I'd have to look in the catalog to be certain. Both are supposed to be able to handle dry soil. I have one section of bank that is below some trees & very dry, so I'm hoping these will help cover it.

I'm also planting gaillardia,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaillardia
AKA blanket flowers (I have Indian blanket. The yellow ones haven't done well here.) & Jupiter's Beard.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centran...
I haven't tried the latter yet, but got a few thousand seeds (far less than it seems like) to try. I planted some this fall, but will plant most in the spring. They're supposed to be tough & easy, just like the gaillardia. Both have been naturalized in this area, although I haven't seen JB right near us.

We're up on a limestone shelf from the rest of the world & it makes a big difference with some vegetation. The Kentucky Coffee tree doesn't grow in our area but does fine just 10 miles west. Pines don't do well, but are abundant 20 miles away, even down in Frankfort, which is 10 miles away, but 450 feet below us. I'm a little concerned about the JB making, but we'll see.

I noticed that too Andy. The bottom picture is a picture of Thula in front of a picture of Thula :D

Lisa | 728 comments Yeah ok! Nice story Andy. But I still prefer dogs, haha. I'm actually allergic to cats! And I think dogs are just damn funny. :)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments I am a total cat fan. My Siamese is crosseyed and adorable. Acts like any dog in that he follows me everywhere, and is very affectionate, but I think he loves hubby even more. Sleeps on his side of the bed only, even tho he is neutered.

message 10062: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I used to think I was a dog person until we had a stray cat adopt us. :)

Siamese are the most doggish cats I know (don't tell him this, he would be direly offended) and I mean it in a complimentary way - I love dogs.

Yup. Siamese are totally people-centric in the way dogs are. So are Burmese. I had a part Burmese cat many years ago. If she was left alone all day you had a permanent shadow when you did get home. Couldn't even shut the loo door without massive feline complaining occurring.

message 10065: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) Huh, I have a stray that acts like that....maybe she has some Burmese. Do they talk a lot too??

Oh yes. As much and as loudly as Siamese do.

Dawn (caveatlector) I find it highly amusing to carry on a conversation with the cat. It always answers when I ask it a question... :)

Thanks. It wasn't compeltely my fault. The kids got let out of school early (there was a big chemical spill where they were redoing wooden floors) and none of the parents were notified of the early release until after the kids were all on the bus. I had sent a note with Elizabeth saying I would pick her up so her teacher assumed I was still going to pick her up. The teacher didn't put her on the bus. Grandma had to pick her up from school. She got to hang out with Grandma at work until I could get her. The school got a few rather nasty phone calls from me.

Kimber (kimberlibri) | 785 comments I love puppies but I'm definitely a cat person. We have two. Jayden (male) is 'mine' while Jasper (female) is Daddy's little girl. Sometimes I just sit and watch them interact with each other and with the objects around them. Much like kids I should have skipped all the fancy Pet Smart toys considering Jayden's favorite thing in the world is a stick wrapped with paper tape. He loves to play fetch with it. Jasper is the same. Her favorites are the plastic eggs that we give the boys on Easter, the pull tabs on milk cartons and a plastic fork that she carries around like a kitten.

Terri | 19576 comments ON cats..

I can't say how I feel about cats. The last time I said why I don't like cats a regular member of the group took it personally and left! Some people really DO NOT like to hear anything negative about cats, apparently. :]

I am a dog person. And I don't care what negatives people say about dogs, so don't worry about offending me. :D

message 10077: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments I love dogs too but mostly the larger breeds I just think that unless you have a place where they can run around being dog like it is unfair to them. So it is cat for me

message 10078: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I have a small dog and a big dog. I loves them in all sizes. I have room here for them to run and play. I'd only have a small dog if space was a problem. For sure.

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments I wrote a long-ish post and my tablet went bananas, so the short versions are had all sorts of critters, would define myself as a dog person.

Siamese cats are not my friends. They're cousins, Himalayans I'm fine with, had two. They chased balls like a dog.

message 10080: by Carol (new)

Carol (ladygyn) | 304 comments Have great affinity for Siamese ever since I was kid and saw lady and the tramp. Live troublemakers. Had a great affection for Ursula in the little mermaid movie as well the eels too

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments On Cats

I'm mildly alergic to them, so we don't have any. Also, my mother was deathly alergic to them, so I never had the chance to get used to them.

I guess I'm a certified dog person :)

message 10085: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 728 comments Yep it's dogs for me, and i prefer the larger breeds. And as anyone on my facebook site can testify, generally boxers!! Today we have French bulldog at work, he sleeps under my table. He followed me to the toilet, and I could hear him scratching on the door!! I had to sit him down and explain we just aren't that close yet, you are cute and all, with awesome ears but we ain't sharing the toilet!! I will post a pic of him.

What the..

Have you already got your GR profile linked to FB? As in, do you sign in with FB?
I don't, if that makes a difference. I go to my GR Home page and click on Updates. At the top of Updates in big bold black letters I have 'Find out what your friends are reading' and the the big blue FB sign.

I click dismiss and it goes away. Only prob with that is that I clear my cookies everytime I close my browser. Which means the features I dismiss are there again when I come back.

message 10091: by Bobby (new)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments 4 dogs....2 cats. Cats are new to the homestead. Humane Society here has a "working cats" program. They bring you 2 unwanted cats (complete with temporary large wire crates) and they stay in the kennels for about 2 weeks to acclimate and become possessive of their space. Then they are released. They stay outdoors and are fantastic hunters for vermin etc.

Good that they are fixed. but what about the other major problem with cats in this world, they indiscriminately kill native wildlife?
That is the reason I do not like cats. They decimate native wildlife populations.
