I have read and re-read The Book Thief a number of times and it is my top 20 favourites. I also recommend, particularly to Victorian readers although certainly not limited to them, Everyman's Rules for Scientific Living, a quirky, entertaining and fascinating story about a train that travelled the state, giving farming advice, maternal welfare advice etc. to farming communities. Everyman's Rules for Scientific Living

Deb | 219 comments I would have to agree with Faye about The Book Thief. One of the best books I have ever written. I found myself re-reading pages because the prose was so beautifully written. The book is stunning.

Christabel Seneque (cseneque) I agree with everyone about The Book Thief--it's one of my all-time favourite novels. This year I finally got around to reading Cloudstreet, read Preincarnate by Shaun Micallef, and just finished The Children which was amazing. Going off now to read Animal People!

message 154: by Mish (new)

James Loftus | 134 comments Just like to say as an Aussie author what a wonderful thing it is you do giving us a platform and a way to reach and create a readership. When you put in the lonely, mad mad long long hours, often, 24 straight, that way way ahead there's light at the end of the tunnel and a helping hand there as well. Thanks Brenda and co.

James, you are very welcome:) Without all you wonderful authors, we wouldn't have books to read, and that would be a tragedy!

James Loftus | 134 comments My novel is Celtic Blood by me, James John Loftus. My novel is a thirteenth century thriller influenced by MacBeth and the writing of Nigel Tranter, Scotland's premier historical novelist. On the Amazon site, just type in Celtic Blood. I hope that helps.
