That's sitting on my shelf, tempting me with it's new book smell.
Well I loved it. Glad to find another series that's written well with good characters. I miss Gordianus.
Kimber wrote: "Well I loved it. Glad to find another series that's written well with good characters. I miss Gordianus."I know that feeling.
I just finished Lamentation
. I felt the plot got a bit bogged down and slightly repetitive in the middle, but I love the series and Shardlake is a great character.
Finished Dissolution, almost finished with Winter Siege and trying to decide what to read next. I might go for three '4 star' books in a row by reading my first Brother Cadfael, A Morbid Taste for Bones. Any other suggestions? I have most of the last few months reads on my kindle but just haven't gotten around to them yet.

The author, who wrote the Cadfael series under the pseudonym Ellis Peters, also wrote a few books under her name, Edith Pargeter.
A Bloody Field by Shrewsbury and
The Brothers of Gwynedd are really great books if you haven't already read them. I also read
To Dance with Kings by Rosalind Laker last autumn, and I was really amazed at how intricate the story was. On the non-fiction spectrum, I really enjoyed
The Affair of the Poisons by Anne Somerset. That is a really interesting book about a pretty wacky period of French history.

I just discovered Kate Quinn, but I want to leave all things Roman and get The Serpent and the Pearl: The Borgias, Book 1. That would be book one of the Borgia series, right? Is it a book to skip or read?
I've started a few more books because why not have 12 books on the go at the same time....
The Great Transformation: The Beginning of Our Religious Traditions which is looking pretty interesting from a cultural and geographical point of view as well as the religious one.
Runaway, I expect this to be good as the author is the queen of short stories.I also started and finished
The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding

I have to read another of her books,
, for a book club meeting. I'm not much of a short stories fan which is why I've never read Alice Munro books, but I hope I like it. Honestly, I don't know how to find the time, there are so many books that I'd like to read at once.
I've read
The Love of a Good Woman and thought it was great. But I'm a big fan of short stories. I hope you like her, she is a really good writer. You can always do like me and just start all the books at the same time!

Well I'm already doing that, willy-nilly, albeit on a smaller scale. So far, so good :)
The Testament Of Marcellus
by Marius Gabriel. Already read once till 3 am last night but have started over.
I'm on a roll. Following up A Morbid Taste for Bones, Brother Cadfael with a Dystopian read Station Eleven. This is coming on the heels of Winter Seige and the first Matthew Shardlake novel. *happy dances*

Jane wrote: "The Testament Of Marcellus

Maternal Harbor by Marie Martin. The book is a freebie thriller that I picked up on Bookbub. It is probably still available.
Finished
what a superb read!Thank you so much for recommending this one to me.
I continue the Series with
(The covers are pure bliss. My bookshelf looks sooo fancy with all these beautiful books ... yes I bought the whole series in advance)
And i started with
it´s the second instalment of David Piries Arthur Conan Doyle & Dr. Joseph Bell Series.
I broke genre and went with
Ready Player One mainly because I am an 80's child myself and it's fun to see all the references to the shows and video games I grew up with. Then moving on to the next Cadfael and I'll try Dark Fire.
I just finished
by James Ellroy I liked it a lot, but it's not his-fic.My review ==> https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Now I'm reading
by David L. Robbins I knew nothing about this until I saw it in a used book store and decided to take a chance after reading the book cover.

I really liked it - he has also written two others on the Great Patriotic War, one on the battle of Kursk
and one on the fall of Berlin
Of the three I probably liked Citadel the best

Jane wrote: "Am now reading
. Nothing outstanding so far. This is really kind of a filler for me."Not Paul Doherty's best series.
My personal favourite is the Brother Athelstan series. Set mostly in London at the time of the regency of John of Gaunt. The main characters and the supporting ones are all bursting with personality.
