Charlotte Wildflower | 58 comments Right now (actually while I'm writing this :-) I am listening to "Gengældelsen" by Steffen Jacobsen
It has been translated to an English version: Retribution
I'm also in the midst of "Roses and Rot" by Kat Howard, but have taken a break as I was a bit disappointed by it.

message 916: by Kate (new)

Kate | 3525 comments I finished listening to The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate and Disclaimer by Renée Knight . I was starting The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater but I think I'll put it on hold to finish up some reads and start Seeing Evil by Jason Parent for the sponsored read instead.

Right? I ended up ditching that audio. I did not like the "author's" tone. (I'm pretty sure this guy didn't write this himself. He's an author as much as Scientology is a "religion."

Now, I've re-downloaded an old favorite: Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments I'm lagging behind! How to Survive a Horror Movie if your in this group, you should have this book. it was great! Play Dead it was pretty good, I don't remember what I gave it. not sure what i'll end up listening to next. I kinda got out of control buying audio books. add narration for 1.99? sure! why not!

message 921: by Kate (new)

Who is your narrator?

I'm listening to Only Time Will Tell which is not horror, but pretty entertaining so far. From what I can gather this series covers many generations. This is the first of the series.

It's pretty good so far! (I'm about halfway through.)
It must have been a freebie or pretty cheap. I don't like to spend a lot when trying out a new-to-me author.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments I started The Sentinel today. they says:
Aspiring model Allison Parker finally moves into her dream apartment: a brownstone on Manhattan's Upper West Side. But her perfect home quickly turns hellish. The building is filled with a cast of sinister tenants, including a reclusive blind priest, who seems to watch her day and night through an upstairs window. Eventually, Allison starts hearing strange noises from the empty apartment above hers. Before long, she uncovers the building's demonic secret and is plunged into a nightmare of sinful misdeeds and boundless evil. In the tradition of Rosemary's Baby, this gripping novel was adapted into a feature film starring Ava Gardner, Cristina Raines, and Chris Sarandon. The Sentinel is classic horror at its best.
I says... idk yet. I think this is going "rosemary's baby" but I don't see how it's going to get there. I haven't got to the demonic secret yet. I don't think..

great! that's good to hear.

message 931: by Char (new)

Char | 17498 comments Yeah, I think The Sentinel was re-released by a publisher earlier this year. I read it back in the day, and I may have seen the movie as well.
I saw it come up at Net Galley and I requested a copy of it back in the spring. I received it and there it has been sitting on my Kindle ever since. I'm afraid to ruin my good memories of this book, by reading it again.

The one I'm listening to now is totally out of my wheelhouse:
Only Time Will Tell but I'm very much enjoying both it and the narrator.
I will be moving on to book 2. If I can get it at my library, I'll be continuing sooner rather than later.

I don't remember the ending. I hardly remember the movie though I know I did see it. I've literally read thousands of books and seen hundreds of movies since then.
I'm lucky if I can remember plot points from books I read two years ago! ;)

I'm relatively new to audiobooks as well, but they've grown on me a LOT over the last 1-2 years.
I finished Only Time Will Tell and thought it was pretty good, even though it's not my usual fare. I reserved the second one at the library.

Now, I'm listening to the controversial book: The Sopaths by Piers Anthony . I read about this book in an article about books that have evil children and then I had to have it.
The reviews for it sure are negative, but I've never let that stop me. ;)

Intriguing book. It's always fun to read a book precisely because it is (or was at one time) controversial. Partly, it's about the reader declaring that it is he or she who will decide what they will or will not read even if they do end up agreeing with a book's detractors.

The Tim Curry version is good, but the one with Frank Muller narrating is better. I'll listen to Frank narrate anything. The first four Dark Tower books are incredible through his voice. Too bad he left us too soon.

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 397 comments Currently 62% (or so) through the audio of THE 5TH WAVE (which is kicking ass- I haven't read any of the others in the series)

But most importantly, listening to the audio version of Cary Elwes book ABOUT the MAKING OF THE PRINCESS BRIDE! Ahhh! It has his voice, Rob Reiner, Billy Crystal, Fred Savage, etc etc SO SO COOL. I have owned the hard copy of the book for over a year and WAITED for this audio version before cracking it open and following along. Hearing these stories told by the actual participants is great and CARY ELWES VOICE IS LIKE LIQUID GOLD!!

As You Wish Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes

message 949: by PSXtreme (new)

PSXtreme I've recently listened to As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. It was a 5 star selection. A definite Must-Have for any fan of the movie. This is one of two audiobooks that I recommend over the written version, the other being Food: A Love Story.

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) | 397 comments PSXtreme-- I absolutely agree with you that As You Wish Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes is much better via the audio version. I own the hardcover and attempted to read it meany times, finiding it hard to 'get into' as it was like a series of anecdotes as opposed to a single, orderly bank of prose. BUT, having these stories TOLD and told BY THE PERSONS (celebrities) INVOLVED in the making of the movie? YES PLEASE!

The only time I prefer an audio book is when its a memoir told by the author, or a book by a comedian, such as Amy Schumer's recent book, for example. Or any book by a former/current 'Saturday Night Live' cast member, such as Rachel Dratch's book, Tina Fey's "Bossypants", etc etc
