Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments I finally got around to reading Slaughter House 5 today. I didn't really see what all the fuss is about.

Amy Osterholm (oamyoh) | 11 comments Brandon Sanderson The Hero of Ages (Mistborn, #3) by Brandon Sanderson - but why? Sooo boring and poorly written. Also rereading LOTR to console myself.

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments Wow, a lot of people here disliking the book they are reading.

message 154: by Dave (new)

Dave Wood (pocket7976) Just finished Furies of Calderon. Not Jim's best a very opredicatbale fantasy romp - but fun nevertheless

Currently reading Dark Matter a suitably spooky Ghost Story for these dark winter nights

Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments I picked up the second edition of The Bone Key today and immediately started reading even though I already own the first edition. It's that good. It's a collection of supernatural short stories in the life of a shy and repressed museum archivist. Think Lovecraft meets psychological realism

Boots (rubberboots) | 499 comments This one wasn't sword or laser but I just finished Half-Blood Blues; It was very well written but it was thoroughly depressing and full of negative emotions, so unless you're a glutton for punishment I wouldn't recommend it.

I've chosen to read Red Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers as my final book of the year. I was a fan of the TV series so I'm expecting light and funny sci-fi. Anyway it should be an enjoyable evening of reading curled up in front of a video of a fire.

John Mazz (johnmazz) | 2 comments Just finished reading Giant's Star by James P Hogan. I accidentally missed Book 2 in the series, so that may have contributed to me being increasingly annoyed at this book. I suppose I enjoyed it overall, but I thought it was a bit forced, too much preaching (for a book that seemed to be somewhat anti-religion) and too many long monologues. I enjoyed the first book in the series a whole lot, so I may go back to book 2. The description of Book 4 didn't leave me thrilled but I am very partial to series, so I may continue on.

Currently reading Nightfall novelized by Robert Silverberg based on the short stories by Isaac Asimov. I am enjoying it but I wish it was novelized a bit tighter, as each of the three parts of the book has to fill in the back story (a hold over from the original series), yet as a novel this isn't necessary and was annoying to me. Beyond that pettiness, I am enjoying the book and should finish soon.

Sandi (sandikal) | 1212 comments Still working on 1Q84, but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I finished The Revisionists last night. It's pretty ambiguous. I ended up unsure if it was a time travel novel or not.

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments I finished 1Q84 yesterday, then onto The Rise of Endymion for the last novel of the year.

Jonathan Cate | 57 comments Finished up Contagious by Scott Sigler and started up the Latest Dexter book (Double Dexter) by Jeff Lindsay.

Warren | 1556 comments I'll start The Know Circuit:
(The Bridge Chronicles, Book 2) this week.
Its by Gary Ballard.
I liked his first book in the series.
(Under the Amoral bridge)
It was fresh.
Sort of like reading Snow Crash for the first time.

message 163: by Kris (new)

Kris (kvolk) Reading Jack McDevitt's newest book Firebird ...first book on my new kindle fire...love the reading experience.

message 164: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin | 4407 comments Working as hard as I can to finish 1Q84 before the new year starts. It's been a weird book for me...some parts have gone really fast, some have gone wicked slow. I kind of feel like I'm ready to be done with it (and Kindle says I'm 90% done so the end is near...).

I've also started Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America (but put it down for 1Q84), so I'd like to finish that quickly, too.

Not sure what'll be after that. There are a few novellas on my "to read" list and I'd like to read the Dunk and Egg stories (I have Legends, Legends II, and Warriors so I can read those stories...get back to the other stories in those books later).

message 165: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) | 116 comments I'm reading Planet of the Damned and I am listening to Dead as a Doornail. I shouldn't have a problem finishing Planet of the Damned by the new year, but I'm not so sure about Dead as a Doornail.

message 166: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Martinson | 24 comments I'm currently reading; The Magician King, A Game of Thrones, V is for Vengeance, I Want My MTV and listening to House of Suns. I may have taken on a bit much, even for me, especially with Skyrim demanding my concentration.

really good story....I think it is his best Alex Benedict story to date.

terpkristin | 4407 comments I finished 1Q84!!

Now I'm working on finishing Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America. I'm about a third through it right now. I may actually be able to finish it before the end of the year...but I'm not holding my breath.

I'll also be working through the two novellas Infinity Blade: Awakening and Perfect Shadow: A Night Angel Novella. If after I'm done with that, we don't have a new pick yet, I'll have to figure out what to jump into.

Also, on my way home from the holidays this weekend, I'm going to officially start re-reading (re-listening-to) Brisingr so I can listen to Inheritance to finish out the series.

Nice! At least you finished 1Q84 before the new year came around.

message 172: by Jonathan Cate (new)

Jonathan Cate | 57 comments Finished up Double Dexter and that will do it for 2011. Next up will be The Passage in January. Happy New Years errybody!

message 173: by Maurice (new)

Maurice | 9 comments I started listening to an audiobook version of Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Wow, this is an awesome sci-fi book; it's living up to the hype for me!

message 174: by Linguana (new)

Linguana | 151 comments I just finished Blameless which means I read three Carriger books in about one and a half weeks. And now I'm almost done with John Scalzi's Old Man's War - what a ride!

I also couldn't not re-read the Harry Potters on my new Kobo. I'm through the first three and into the Goblet of Fire now but I guess that one will have to wait for 2012. :)

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments I finished The Family Fang early this morning, and am trying to finish Case Histories before the end of 2011. I'm still midway through The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood, as well as You've Got to Read This: Contemporary American Writers Introduce Stories that Held Them in Awe, but that is one I'm reading a story a day with a buddy!

Starting tomorrow I'll be embarking on an Around the World in 52 Books challenge for 2012, and I'm excited!

message 176: by Amy (new)

Amy Pilkington | 104 comments Rounding out the month (and 2012), I've read these since my last post:

Finished The Way of Shadows
Divergent (which was good, but I don't really see Best Book of the Year in it.)
Phoenix Rising
Storm Front
The Doctor and the Kid
plus I read Countdown this morning.

Have read 2/4 of the novellas in Myths of Origin: Four Short Novels, which I'm loving, but can only read in short bursts. I started Wake Up and Dream this afternoon.

Obviously a few of those are pretty light, fluffy reads, but it's the holidays. :D

message 177: by Alissa (new)

Alissa (alissamerritt) I'm reading A Clash of Kings and Wamphiri at the moment.

I'm reading Pratchett's Snuff right now.

Try the movie version on acid.

How did you like Babel-17? It had a good subset of Delaney's early cast of characters.
