Total so far in 2012: 33
Wow, this month has just zipped by! That might explain my poor showing - only 5 books this month. Here's to hoping I have more reading time in May! :)
Sorry for not reporting my number earlier! School has been so crazy lately!Anyways, I read 16 books in April. =)
Sorry all! I was going to do this sooner, but it looks like Z beat me to the punch... work has been crazy with people on vacation and LOA. I should be okay for a little while though.
I'll give you my book total when I get back for my time in China. I'm not entirely sure of the total now.
I just joined this group. I'm not sure what is okay to include. I've read:39 full length books
2 craft books
3 art/photography books (including the writing but large proportion was pictures)
19 picture books
1 audiobook
Total: 64
I didn't start reading until the end of March so my numbers should improve. Please let me know what you think I should include in my totals.
I'm honestly not sure how I feel about the picture books. Are they picture books that concern art/crafts, etc.?
Yes, that's what I was trying to decide on. So we agree, for future reference, kids picture books aren't allowed? But other stuff is fine, correct?
I don't agree. For some of the countries I'm reading, I can only get children's picture books.
Osho wrote: "I don't agree. For some of the countries I'm reading, I can only get children's picture books."Hmm.....I believe we'll have to discuss this a little more. I'll send out a broadcast once we figure out what to do. Keep counting them as yall were for now.
There's a huge variance in picture books. Some don't have any words at all (and some of these are complex like Sean Tan's The Arrival). Some have only a few words per page like I Want My Hat Back and others may be very text heavy like Icarus at the Edge of Time which is basically an illustrated short story. I'm not sure if there is a way to fairly decide on all of them. We might leave it up to the person. When I finished The Arrival I felt like I had read a book. When I finished I Want My Hat Back, which I also loved, I felt like I had read a longish joke. So my thoughts as a newbie are this:
If the spirit of this thing is that we just read a lot and fully ingrain it into our everyday lives rather than putting it off because we don't have time, then picture books should count if the person feels they fulfilled their goal by reading them.
If the idea is to make sure we read lots of text then they shouldn't.
But if text is the only important thing, should we be sure not to count any illustrated pages in a novel or make sure we actually count the read pages rather than just the page count of the book? What about graphic novels or books of comic strips?
I'm sorry I brought up such an unclear discussion. I was hoping you already had a policy! :) I don't know what the answer should be but I'm not clear on what the reasoning behind the project was. I just think its fun!
Don't apologize :). Honestly, we've just never run into this situation before. We've agreed, of course, that straight picture books don't count. But we've never had something like this. And you know, I never thought about that (the graphic novels, manga, comic strips). You have a very valid point.
I think I'll make a post about this. Not now, but later. To give Meghan &/or MS some time to read everything.
I won't finish another book before the end of May, so I'll post my total for the month as 6 books. I was trying to improve my page count, so I went for some longer reads.

Only read 10 books this month, but that's because I had final exams and everything in school. I'm aiming for at least 20 books in June, now that school is over. =)
I haven't really been here the last few months so I'll have the backtrack a bit :)March: 11
April: 10
May: 2
I haven't really been in the reading mood for the last month or so but I'm trying to make this month my best yet! I'm aiming for 15 or 20 books. My best so far in 2012 has been 12, so I'm aiming high :)
For May I read 2!The video game I waited a very long time to come out finally came out. Thus, my reading progress has been sort of stunted.
Totally forgot to add my may books read.
I read a total of 11 books in May.

After 5 months of combining our totals, we're at 1367. Our average of books per month is 273.4; at this rate, it will take us 304.8 years to reach our goal. I find this hilarious, but it's definitely not a bad start. I think we're doing really good so far!

Maybe our children and grandchildren will finish the challenge for us, Z.

No matter how long it takes this is still a really fun goal to strive for.
I agree. I like the idea of counting books; it keeps me motivated to read even more than I usually would.
