I just received an old book that my grandmother had and I lived so much! I let someone read it and never saw it again! I was so excited! Flood of memories! And I can use it for a task! However it is not in goodreads database and I can’t find an ISBN number anywhere. The book is titled Araminta. The author is Helen Cady Forbes. The book was published in 1927 by MacMillan.
She was a librarian in New York and also a cousin to Esther Forbes, a Pulitzer Prize winner and a Newberry winner.

I Meant to say Thanks, Bea! But it got tangled up with my other post. I just now saw you answered! Don’t know how I missed it before.
Here it is for you, Rebekah. ISBNs started in the mid-1960s, so a 1927 book will not have one. I gave it the 229 pages from worldcat. If you can scan the cover I can add that. (Simply upload the cover to your profile. After it has been added to the book, you can delete it from there.)https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
The cover is just plain blue cloth boards with title and author. It had no dust jacket. I’ll try to get it uploaded. What I really like is the book has a glued in sticker that a library must have added that says “Wash your hands before you read me and keep me clean!” (Smile)
I don’t think I ever intentionally washed my hands to read a library book before!

I also uploaded the printing info, the illustration and that sticker. I forgot about being able to add pictures!
And the book does have 229 pages. Probably only the one printing.

Thanks and uploaded. You are welcome to add those other photos with your review! Worldcat had a 1931 edition, but I didn't add it - it may just have been another printing.
I see she wrote 3 other books I’m going to to find. I just emailed the Westborough, MA, Historical Society to see if they might have her picture. The Forbes family seems to have been of some importance in its earlier years in that town, providing land and money for various projects like schools, a courthouse and sidewalks. I didn’t know we could add pictures to posts!
Rebekah wrote: "I didn’t know we could add pictures to posts! "Yes you can!
The picture has to have an internet address, but you have already uploaded to your profile. Below is the code and between the " " you put in the URL of the photo you want to add. Do you have windows or a Mac? I have put in spaces after the < and before the/ so that it will display.

Thanks!
Elizabeth, do you mind adding three more books to author Helen Cady Forbes page? I’ll scan the covers too.Apple Pie Hill - Amazon says 154 pages, pub 1930
https://www.amazon.com/Apple-hill-Hel...
Mary and Marcia, Partners - Amazon says 166 pages, WorldCat says pub in 1926
https://www.amazon.com/Mary-Marcia-Pa...
Mario’s Castle - Amazon says 198 pages, pub in 1928 https://www.amazon.com/Marios-castle-...
I’ll wait a little but to see if I hear back from Westborough, Mass Historical Society for a picture, then write a little bio about her like dates of birth and death and wear she was born, which I found on Find-a-Grave.

Got these. Amazon had a nice cover for the 1926 edition of Marcy and Marcia.
The photo for the author page must be a public domain photo or you have been given the rights to publish.

I haven’t heard back from the historical people. I have been googling for her and find nothing. I even went to Ancestry.com to see if there were pictures floating around on a tree somewhere. I went to newspapers.com for her hometown. I did see some book reviews but no pictures. I visited the website of her publisher hoping they might have archived photos. The best I’ve been able to do is find her grave and the stone is barely legible. I also looked up her Newberry Winner cousin to see if they had done any family shots but no luck.
Family photos or published on another website will not be enough for Goodreads to accept. You must have taken the photo yourself or have explicit rights to publish the photo here.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Family photos or published on another website will not be enough for Goodreads to accept. She died before I was born so I couldn't take her picture
If the photo is public domain, yes. Not all photos of dead people are public domain. It's easy to say the Twain and Dickens would be, based on their year of death.
Good Morning!Would it be possible to add page numbers to Sunrise at Campobello - A Play in Three Acts by Dore Schary (No listed version has page numbers.)
World Cat shows what looks like the same edition as having 96 pages.
https://www.worldcat.org/title/sunris...
Thanks for the help! (I am trying to get some of the shorter works -- lots of plays -- off my TBR list with task 10.6 Summer Shorts!)

Yes. Filled in your linked edition at 92 pages and that is the MPE. You'll be able to use it with another for 10.7.

Thank you very much!
Elizabeth (Alaska) I have been reading a few Guy de Maupassant short stories today. I noticed on the GR book page for "Qui Sait?" (original French title) the MPE is a completely different book. Probably a mix up with ISBNs. I tried to separate but the tool won't let me. A book called Casting the Ruins (original title Satellites) by M. R. James is listed as MPE. It is the problem and cannot be removed. I noticed you were the last librarian to edit Maupassant in 2015. I thought I would hand it over to you, if you do not mind looking at it.
Who Knows?

I removed the cover for that edition which had been uploaded incorrectly. Amazon does not have a cover for that ISBN.
(And nice for you on the de Maupassant short stories!)

Thank you. That was a simpler way than separating. I wasn't sure what to do.
Actually, I had been looking at "Le Main" , "The Hand", by Maupassant, which is a short creepy story with an ambiguous ending. It is just the sort of thing my Middle School students might appreciate.

Could the publication date on this book: Nine Micmac Legends please be corrected. It was published in 1983 (according to my copy and amazon.ca). It's ISBN 0-88999-196-0 if that is helpful.
Thanks

Yes, I was a little surprised at that! Thank you.
I am potentially interested in reading Wise Children by Emma Rice. It only is in kindle form, as far as I can determine. I did see in the FAQ that it has to be 30,000 words to be acceptable. I don't know how to figure that out though. Amazon.ca says it is 144 print pages (if that helps).

I'll look at it further. Amazon has audio and physical editions. It may be attached to the wrong Emma Rice.EDIT: You have linked to the play, which is an adaptation. There may be other editions, I don't know.

I see. Yes, the play is the work I would like to read.
Valerie wrote: "I see. Yes, the play is the work I would like to read. "And you're fine with it. I don't know how they decide how many pages either, but they have and we'll go with it.
Is it possible to correct the listing for Can't Read, Can't Write, Heres My Book ? The MPE comes up as the generic cover and the actual cover shows up as another edition. There is only one edition of this book, with the green and black cover. Thanks. Also, the missing apostrophe annoys me.....
(Sorry for being annoyingly picky.)

I noticed that this book QualityLand keeps coming up with the wrong title on it's listing. Could this be corrected?! Thaks.

Please confirm that Mama Day is the only book by Gloria Naylor that has a Lexile rating (930). I read the messages about problems with the Lexile site, so not sure I trust it now. Thanks.
That's not the way the Lexile rule works. I can confirm that book is not shelved as YA at BPL, so the Lexile rule does not apply.
I guess I asked the wrong question. The Women of Brewster Place is Assignment at BPL. Does it have a Lexile rating? I did not find one. Thanks.
Owlette wrote: "I guess I asked the wrong question. The Women of Brewster Place is Assignment at BPL. Does it have a Lexile rating? I did not find one. Thanks."The Lexile rule does not apply to books on Bloom's Canon.
(And I panicked for a moment, as that is a book I claimed for CYOA!)
