Movies (duplicate thread)

Yep, the Skyline. And it's showing "Inglourious Basterds".

I like Kingdom of Heaven, too Kevin--a lot!

The tragedies keep multiplying. The ficus would have to pay admission too.

Is that thing getting bigger?

It's a bald face lie. Stephen's makin' stuff up now.
*shakes head*

The ficus does like the occasional potato chip though, but no dogs have been injured in the raising of the ficus.
Now if you can all go back to ignoring the ficus, because Larry & I are trying to relax in the recliners watching the big screen TV behind it, and every time you all go to move it we have to readjust.

BYOR Stephen, but be very quite, and grab a beer out of the fridge on the way by if you want.

How would we know the difference Kevin? :-D.

Just to be sure it is understood I was kidding to Kevin.

Your coherence really comes and goes sometimes, my friend.

The message it sent me was weird, but very compassionate and it did help me deal with the trauma of falling asleep on the couch and totally missing the part where Tyson bit off the other guy's ear. I was kinda upset about that--and now I feel so much better and I really do think I'm a better person for it! WOW!!!
Electronically generated sympathy--creepy!

I'm watching "The Beast Must Die", with Peter Cushing, the "expert" from Rocky Horror, and Dumbledore! Er, I mean Michael Gambon.

I guess I don't care who it is, I really don't want to see anyone, even a Nazi, get bludgeoned with a baseball bat.
What I liked:
- The Nazi security officer and his great big Sherlock Holmes pipe. Played by Austrian actor Christoph Waltz, he is a fascinating character with no scruples.
- The plot about the Jewish girl who escapes capture, and then has an opportunity to avenge her family and kill top Nazi brass handed to her on a silver platter. You can feel the tension pouring off of her in the scenes where she's talking with Goebbels and other high level Nazis, and she makes a great femme fatale during the big climax.
- The effect with a movie being projected onto smoke, wow!
- The colors, especially the reds.
What I didn't like:
- The whole "Inglorious Basterds" side plot, with Brad Pitt's character recruiting Jewish soldiers to kill Nazis, and scalp them. There was a feeling of buffoonery to this group that dragged down the movie, especially during the climax, and made what should have been powerful into a smirking joke.
- Cruelty being made into something for the audiences' amusement.
- Poor pacing slowing the movie down, and losing the tension. I felt Tarantino reaching for the kind of banter he had in Pulp Fiction, and dragging out scenes with quirky touches that didn't quite work.
This movie has gotten a lot of glowing reviews, and I can see that point of view. With some tighter editing, and less violence on the screen, I would agree. But in my case, I had to go home and watch some scenes from Funny Face to calm down.
