Thanks for your comments, Sandy and Tim.

And (TO ALL) if you delete the "he said" she said" portion of the message and just put @Kelliane or whomever, it takes less time and space to get to the heart of the new message.

Liked - You are so very welcome.

I will still be taking the time to read and review books in the process. I have no intention, whatsoever, of neglecting my new blog and I still intend to promote other authors as I am able.
If anyone is interested, I've written a new blog titled, Chase Travers: Family Man - Heroic Cop and you can read it at http://freedominlove.com
I will still pop in, from time to time, over the coming days. I'm hoping to have my book completed in 2-3 weeks.

Thanks Tim. I just went there and 'liked' then left a message of thanks.

Our FB fan page just 'liked' yours.

I hear you about the family and friends not spreading the word. It does get discouraging at times. Good thing we have fellow indie authors to vent to...they understand our frustrations. The friends I live with don't understand half of what I try to explain to them.

Good for you Norma. Hope you are able to accomplish all of your goals.
Thanks, everyone, for spending time on our thread. I had no idea if even one person would post, and somehow we now number many and have chalked up 7 pages in fewer days :-)

By the way, Tim, check this out:

Me too ..... I tweeted for you.

I think you have a great group of friends. :)
I just found out about this new website from Vincent Lowry of the Goodreads/Authors group.
http://www.genrebuds.com
It gives authors and readers a chance to connect by matching them up with the books they'd like to read. I just posted our book on there. The only issue I ran into was trying to import the Goodreads TBR list from here to their website but hey they are still beta testing it I think. They also give ribbons out for different things. Maybe this might be an answer to our mutual concern of not getting our books out to the readers.
Well, I'm off to spread the word to some more people. I believe I read that if you have a blog and spread the word about GenreBuds they give you some points...but I think spreading the word just might be mutually beneficial to readers and authors.

Lynn & mama,
Are you telling me that you can get family members to actually read your work? How the heck did you do that? The big response I get from my family is, "I don't really read."
Humph.

Lynn,
I tweeted and bookmarked for further review. Thanks for the heads up!

Love ya,
Lynn

Well my sister was the first one to purchase our book. She got it for her husband. My ex-husband purchased the book. He read a few pages and made up a different excuse. Does it matter if the book is paid for? :) Tell them it is called support.
My co-author's wife even bought our book for moral support and to have in case he wanted to see it on Kindle.
Lynn

And surely not either of these beautifully edited and written tomes. That don't sell at all)

First question, did they ask you for an honest review? If so give them an honest review or contact them directly to let them know how you feel about it.
Some books are just not everyone's cup of tea. You could start out that way. Now if they didn't ask for an honest review, then maybe not write one at all. They obviously only wanted to get high marks.
Lynn

Well something similar happened to me. I decided to say that I didn't find books in that genre appealed to me. So therefore I wouldn't be able to give an honest review.

@Virginia, I'd just let it be. If they keep bothering you for a review, then I'd e-mail them and explain the situation.

Craig

As far as getting reviews goes...be a joiner!!
Join everything that you get invited to, even if you don't have time for it. Library Thing is an awesome tool for reviews. Do giveaways. These are just a couple of my ideas. I don't have very many reviews on Amazon, but I have had better luck with other sites. Plus, it's always a good idea to apply for membership in genre specific guilds.
One of the biggest opportunities that has come my way came from me joining a group here on Goodreads that was specific to my genre, but I never once promoted myself. One day, out of the blue, I received a private message from one of the moderators offering to do a group read with one of my books. I don't know if anything works any better than anything else, but I know that I stay far far away from the Amazon forums.

I couldn't read it all but I get the gist of what being said. I agree it is interesting. I saw an article earlier today that was 'shown' to me by a fellow author, Marla, I didn't get all the way through it either but you might:

It seems to be one of those Announcements everyone was expecting kind of thing.
Lynn

I think it is best summed up by saying, do what is right for you but it's great to know what your options are so you know what you can pick from.
Mostly, I use the trial and error method. I try it and it either works or it doesn't (for me) but it might for someone else.
I agree about Amazon forums. I know of a couple of great threads but even those have basically fizzled out. I'm even not comfortable with promoting on the threads I started. I've had a couple of silly people pull not so nice things on me. (this is the cleaned up version of how I really feel about that kind of thing) I choose to be the adult and not get ugly but just move on.
Anyway, weather is getting nasty and I need to go to bed soon.

I Have to admit that I find myself ready waaay outside my comfort zone somedays, but I find I enjoy most genres once I find my way into the story. No matter what, I always read and review authors who have done the same for me. I'm slowly catching up with all the owed ones :-)

I find that I really don't pay that much attention to who is or isn't buying or reading my work anymore (though I'm fortunate that most of my family does read my books and even help with my marketing efforts). I keep coming back to one simple truth...a career in writing requires thousands of sales, not a few dozen so the goal is to reach a mass audience...hence, a few stragglers really don't matter :-)

Fascinating stuff, CS. We are living in a volitile world...and as I've always said, depending on other people for your paycheck is the pits. Hence, I'm a huge fan of indie writers because, for better or worse, they are blazing their own path...and succeeding or failing on their own efforts. No publisher is cutting a bad deal for indies :-)

Lynn, you know you can promote here all you like. I have a couple of serious promotion options coming up soon that I think you will all be excited to see. I appreciate the team spirit and support you all share...and I'm going to do my best to see that enduring marketing platforms are built for all of us.

I agree with Tim. I write and promote and keep it moving forward. I don't worry about who does and doesn't read my book. Like I told someone on twitter, this is a marathon, not a sprint. You continue writing and promoting and the reader support will be there. You have to believe that if you want to keep the drive to continue on.
