Need a Recommendation?

I'm having the same problem. My to-read shelf is getting insane and I want to read all of them NEXT!

I feel I wish the expand my Paranormal horizons"
In addition to the ones already recommended I'd add these (first one in series):

Also, perhaps because it's M/M and I know that's not for everyone... though it is an AMAZING series!

You had me at M/M - I've put the first PsyCop on my TBR list.

She has other books and series I like too (she being the author):

holy cow! this thread dropped from my updates for some reason!
but clearly I asked the right people for recs!
I'm feeling overwhelmed haha, good news most of these are in my library (which was lucky cause Melbourne libraries suck compared to the Gold Coast)
some of these look soooo awesome!

Wow, I wish I could help out but most of my favorite books from childhood were at a slightly lower reading/grade level, and the youngest I've read lately is more middle grade type of stuff. Are you specifically wanting historical books?

I haven't read it but there's a few comments on the book in this topic you might want to check out : http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...

How about things like The Bridge to Tarabithia, Tuck Everlasting and The Chronicles of Narnia. Of course they may be difficult if these students reading level is low due to language decoding. Also I love Letters to Riffka

All of the kids that I know around age 10 are boys. Some of these will appeal to girls as well, but if there are some more 'girly' series that 10 year olds are into these days, I'm not aware of them.
You could try older stuff like this:

You could also do some Roald Dahl like

judy b moody, they are funny and she has an annoying brother too
James patterson writes one about middle school.
diary of wimpy kids, they are aimed at boys but my 5th grade daughter loves it.
How about little house on the prarire?
Charlie and the chocolate factory, anything by Beverly cleary, and there is trixie belden nancy drew or the betsy books ( cant remember more of title or author

I cannot remember if it really was guy/girl pov in the first book, but ..."
Something Like Normal
First Comes Love

I've read the synopsis, and I'm looking for a book with this tone.
If you don't recommend Hushed, are there other books with this same dark feel with a bit of romance from a male perspective that you would recommend?
Thanks :)

The romance is not the prominent part of the story but it does develop into a sweet m/m romance toward the end.
I had similar feelings about The Storyteller as I did Hushed, except Storyteller adds a bit of a fairy tale element to the book, whereas Hushed is just a straight contemporary with a dark side.
Are you specifically looking for contemporary books or is it mainly the anti-hero/potential villain type of lead you're looking to read about?

While I would prefer contemporary, I'm okay with whatever fits that description as long as it's not high fantasy or historical fiction.
I'm writing a contemporary YA for NaNo with this feel to it. I want to read a few books prior to editing the manuscript so that I can make sure that mine hits the mark I'm aiming for. ^_^
Because I just realized that I have never read an anti-hero story with a male MC voice, and I probably should, considering.
I'll probably add both Hushed and The Storyteller to my list, since I really need to explore different voices... But any other recommendations will definitely get added too!

Try Rotters by Daniel Kraus.

Here's the link to my review if it will help determine if this is along the lines of what you are looking for. Don't be put off by me givig it only 3 stars; quality wise, this is much higher.

I also found the Male Protags thread on here, so I'll be picking up a bunch of recommendations that way too :)
Thanks for the input!

So I got a weird obsession nagging at me the last day or two: Anyone know a good, dramatic YA where school life plays a significant part? Any sub-genre (contemporary, fantasy, M/M, F/M, dystopian, sci-fi, etc, I mean anything).
Share your favorites, please!

I'm just gonna list some of series that I like by genre. A couple of them have been mentioned but here they are:
High Fantasy:
Seven Realms

Fire and Thorns

The Queen's Thief

Study Series (or ANYTHING by Maria V. Snyder, really)

The Prydain Chronicles

Abhorsen Chronicles

Lumatere Chronicles

Graceling Realm

Some other first books in new fantasy series that you may want to check out, if you haven't:

Speculative Fiction:
Leviathan (steampunk/alternate history)

Under the Never Sky (post-apocalyptic - a dystopian element inside biodomes, but mostly survival outside the domes in a crazy jacked up world that will kill you)

Across the Universe (space! first book has some mild dystopian elements)

Dust Lands (post-apocalyptic - 2nd book has an emerging dystopia)

Horror:
The Monstrumologist

Contemp:
Heist Society:

Adult High Fantasy: (I'm including these particular adult series because they have protagonists that are teens/20s.)
The Kingkiller Chronicles:

Mistborn:

Night Angel Trilogy:

A Song of Ice and Fire: (worth it for Arya alone)

Yea I stole a few from your list now, so thanks for making my TBR even larger! GOSH!

I've been trying this new thing where I start reading books outside my usual YA tendancy. I'm getting better at finding Adult UF and PNR (though I haven't gotten around to reading many of them yet haha) and I'm working on reading more of the classics.
However I'm looking for a good non YA Contemprary/Romance. I like thought provoking books as well as tear jerkers. Whenever I try to find something at the book store I get so overwhelmed that I give up because I have no idea what to look for :P
I liked books like

Also, I wouldn't mind any horror or thrillers, as I haven't really ventured outside Stephen King and James Patterson haha.
Thanks!

I'm late to the party here- but once I got into it I really enjoyed The Luxe series. Its basically historical young adult fiction. There is definitely romance in there, but lots of other stuff worth reading. The trick to this series, though, is that you have to read past the first book.

I just finished

The problem is that I keep reading unfinished series. Note to self: must stop doing that!
I do not at all have the patience to find out what is going to happen to Kate and Daemon in the Lux series, or Tris in the Divergence series, or to find out what will happen next in

Someone tell me what to do next!
The emotions are overwhelming me!
Basically this is me right now:

Can someone suggest a solid YA series that is completed that I can read while I wait for the shocking conclusions to these nail biters!?
Also- worth noting that I've read the vampire academy series already.
Thank you fellow bookworms!!!

That's what the *intense* folks don't get and constantly leaves me shaking my head. It's a different opinion on a book...not a personal attack.
Mostly I think it's cool how two people with similar interests and who love a lot of the same books, can diverge so drastically on others.
