Yup. Did you read the 3 follow up books in the series? They just get creepier IMO.

message 805: by Marco (new)

Marco Pesce | 8 comments Hello guys, I need your help :)
I've to start a new series and I can't decide between Unearthly (by Cynthia Hand) and Necromancer (by Lish McBride). What would you suggest? I know one is about angel and one is about necromancer (you don't say?) I need a reccomandation based on the story itself, what you think is more worth reading/funny/intriguing/I don't know

message 806: by Robin (new)

Robin (Bridge Four) (fionafixit) I haven't read unearthly but the Necromancer books were very funny and move along quickly. I really liked both in the series.

message 807: by Marco (new)

Marco Pesce | 8 comments are there only 2 books plus the 2 prequel? right?
(speaking about necromancer obviously)

message 808: by Robin (new)

Robin (Bridge Four) (fionafixit) So far. There will be another to finish out the series but I'm not sure when that is planned. I didn't read the prequel either. I should probably do that sometime.

message 809: by Marco (new)

Marco Pesce | 8 comments Aaaand it's me again :)
I've pratically devoured every series presented in the PNR-Urban fantasy section of the group (exept "The Raven Boy" 'cause I'm waiting until is finished), any other suggestion of what I must not miss of this genre? If possible, if it's a series I prefere it already finished because I hate cliff-hanger, I can't deal with the stress :)
Thanks a lot guys.

Hi Marco have you tried Patricia Briggs, Mercy Thompson series Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs The series is still going but there is no cliffhanger to each book, just a different challenge the main character has to face. She also has another spin off series which I like more Alpha & Omega (Alpha & Omega, #0.5) by Patricia Briggs Another great series that is finished is Kim Harrison's Hollows series Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison

message 811: by Marco (new)

Marco Pesce | 8 comments never read the Mercy Thompson series though it popped out a lot in my raccomendation (Even in amazon) I've read the "Alpha and omega" series. Now I'm reading "daugther of smoke and bone" after that I think I'll go with Mercy Thompson. thanks

message 815: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Magic Bites Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews is my favorite kick ass female! I second Angelfall and Graceling.

message 816: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I love some of the others mentioned - Graceling - Enclave + Angelfall

I would also recommend Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) by Rae Carson Born (Born, #1) by Tara Brown Mistborn The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson and Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu

message 817: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 867 comments Ilona Andrews is the queen of PNR kick-ass main characters. I'd go with On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews : her The Edge series is steadily great and it's already finished.

message 818: by Yvette (last edited Mar 03, 2015 07:30AM) (new)

Yvette (yvettejessika) | 14 comments I highly recommend anything by Karen Marie Moning. Love her so much. I'm currently re-reading
Kiss of the Highlander (Highlander, #4) by Karen Marie Moning .

Have you tried Kaye Thornbrugh?

Flicker by Kaye Thornbrugh Brightly (Flicker #2) by Kaye Thornbrugh

I really like the way she stands the whole brooding-but-handsome boy trope around; there is that character, and the lead female is distinctly not attracted to him.

message 820: by Kriselda (last edited Apr 16, 2015 04:30PM) (new)

Kriselda Gray I'm looking for a good werewolf or werewolf and other shifters book or series, but I'm not a big fan of romances. I think a good example of what I'm interested in would be the show Teen Wolf, where there is some romance, but it's not heavy-handed and isn't a major source of drama.

I recently read Lykaia and Erato by Sharon van Orman and really loved them, in case anyone's familiar with those.

Any suggestions?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Going to bump this for you, since no one replied. I'll take a look through my shelves and see what I can find, but I don't know if I've read many YA shifter books without a heavy romance influence (it just seems to be a big part of what's out there). I'll be interested to see if anyone can come up with something though.

Maybe something with a male PoV might be on the right track.

message 822: by Kriselda (new)

Kriselda Gray Thanks - and male pov would be fine :)

message 823: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) The only YA books that I've read that kinda fit the bill is the Necromancing books. The main character isn't a shifter, but if I remember correctly there are shifters in the series.

Hold Me Closer, Necromancer (Necromancer, #1) by Lish McBride Necromancing the Stone (Necromancer, #2) by Lish McBride

These books are great! Highly recommend.

message 825: by Heidi (last edited Apr 23, 2015 06:13AM) (new)

Heidi They are not YA but I like this series Written in Red -it has very little romance

message 826: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I was going to say that one too, but didn't cause it was YA. I love that series, lol.

message 827: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Yeah. It is too fun not to mention even though it is an adult read Wendy. The first two were pretty clean though - definitely not BDB territory!

message 828: by Robin (new)

Robin (Bridge Four) (fionafixit) Charming (Pax Arcana, #1) by Elliott James

He is a Werewolf Knight Templar....it's complicated. But there was only a very small romance and male PoV not specifically YA but PG-13 I think.

As UF goes I thought it was pretty good.

Um, it's not YA, I'm not sure how old you are? These books are sexy but that's not the whole focus, at least in the first couple I read. But, if you're actual YA age...maybe not a good plan.

Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian #1) by Keri Arthur

Ok now that I'm reading the description again I guess it probably has more romance and sex than I remembered.

Kriselda Gray Casey wrote: "Kriselda wrote: "I'm looking for a good werewolf or werewolf and other shifters book or series, but I'm not a big fan of romances. I think a good example of what I'm interested in would be the show..."

Oh, I'm middle aged - I just don't care for explicit sex or for stories where people do stupid/silly things because they're in luuuuuv (like keeping something secret or refusing to admit how they feel about someone to "protect them" or having someone ignore all the signs that the person they're interested in is bad news and then get hurt because of it...)

I'm appreciating The suggestions so far - looks like some fun stuff to check out!

message 832: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 560 comments I haven't read these yet, but Anne Rice has a new werewolf series. Obviously more adult, than YA, but I don't think romance plays a big part in the plot

The Wolf Gift (The Wolf Gift Chronicles, #1) by Anne Rice The Wolves of Midwinter (The Wolf Gift Chronicles, #2) by Anne Rice

message 833: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Written in Red has no romance really and no sex that I remember :)

I read The Wolf Gift (The Wolf Gift Chronicles, #1) by Anne Rice last year, and recall some weird human/werewolf sex scenes. There is some romance, but it's not overly done.

message 835: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 560 comments human on werewolf sex? hmmm If it was anyone else but Anne Rice that statement might freak me out a little bit more than it already does, haha

message 836: by Ashley Marie (last edited Apr 23, 2015 10:01AM) (new)

Ashley Marie I really liked Maggie Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls books, but there's definite romance in them. What about Blood and Chocolate? It's been awhile since I read that one so I don't remember if there were romantic overtones or what.

EDIT: The second Dresden Files book had werewolves too! Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2) by Jim Butcher

message 837: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "Yeah. It is too fun not to mention even though it is an adult read Wendy. The first two were pretty clean though - definitely not BDB territory!"

The third one was just as clean, I thought. Definitely not romance heavy.

message 838: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Dresden definitely has very little sex. It's there, but rare.

message 839: by Isamlq (last edited Apr 29, 2015 08:18AM) (new)

Isamlq | 612 comments Guys? Guys. GUYS! you should all do The Martian by Andy Weir . Do it in audio... I started it in print but shifted two chapters in. I laughed a lot, almost cried, and also almost peed my pants. :) these were 10 plus hours well spent.

message 840: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That looks good! I can't do audio, sadly. But I'll definitely give it a read, once I get it.

message 841: by Heidi (new)

Heidi The Martian audiobook narrator did a fantastic job. I was not as in love with that book as a lot of others (3 stars) but it was still a fun read.

message 842: by Isamlq (new)

Isamlq | 612 comments I know Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman doesn't come out till October, but I suggest you guys put in your TBR. This was all kinds of great. Both Kaufman and Kristoff do an awesome job. If amy of you have access to Random on either NG or E, it's up there

message 843: by Jackie (new)

Jackie I'm looking for some recs. I'm interested in pnr and I really like books where the two main characters can't stand each other at first. Examples that come to mind are the Divisa series by J.L. Weil and the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Thanks in advance!

message 844: by Casey (new)

Casey Anderson | 637 comments Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls, #1) by C.C. Hunter The Shadow Falls series is good and kind of like that.

message 845: by Heidi (new)

The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning is really good, and both MC's can't stand each other.

My brother wants me to buy him some books for his birthday.

He normally reads finance stuff and thats all anyone gives him ( he is in financial planning) he wants something a bit different

He is 27
Any books that you might think would be up his ally? I was thinking crime mystery even magic realism. Im just a bit of a loss at what would be good, as im normally fantasy or contemporary

Any suggestions are appreciated

message 850: by Janet (new)

Janet (justjanet) My son is 27 and I gave him Hounded. He liked it enough to buy the next in the series himself!
