Wow so many choices.

I'm really open to about anything. I really jump around. Maybe Adult would be nice for a change up.

I'll read a series if it is good but I enjoy stand alone books too. Dirty romances are sometimes my guilty pleasure when they aren't too cheesy.

My book tastes are kind of eclectic

Nicki (nicki_has_thoughts) | 43 comments So I need to know what Richelle Mead book I should start with. I have seen that a lot of you all are fans of hers and I want to know where I should start so that I can also be a fan girl too :D

message 610: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That's easy! Start with Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead !

After that series, switch and Read Vampire Academy, then Bloodlines. After that, read her Dark Swan series.

That would be the order that I would always recommend.

I would say Vampire Academy if you are more into YA.

message 613: by Carina (new)

Carina If you want YA, go with Vampire Academy. If you want Adult, go with Georgina Kincaid.
They are both amazing series!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments What Carina said. I love them both for different reasons.

Emily (librarylil) | 358 comments One of this week's free audio downloads is Rotters by Daniel Kraus . If you like dark, creepy, or sinister, give it a try. I do not, but I still found the quality of this one to be outstanding. Download is only free for one week. http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001GdzKjc...

message 616: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 76 comments Any really good books out in the past year that I missed? Something that really stood out from the rest? I love Vampire Academy, Mortal Instruments, Potter, Soul Screamers, Hunger Games, Seven Realms, Maze Runner and cute reads like Anna and the french Kiss and Perfect Chemistry. But I haven't loved some popular books like Graceling, Incarceron, Before I Fall, or the Iron Fey.

I need something different to read and I don't know where to start.

message 617: by Rachel (last edited Jun 27, 2013 06:19PM) (new)

Rachel | 560 comments Hmmm hard to say without knowing your particular interests, but it seems like your tastes are pretty eclectic. Some of the popular ones in this group lately have been (and some I can personally endorse):

Brigid Kemmerer's Elemental series starting with Storm (Elemental, #1) by Brigid Kemmerer

The Unwind series by Neal Shusterman starting with Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman

Leigh Bardugo's Grisha series starting with Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) by Laini Taylor by Laini Taylor. We're starting a big buddy read of the sequel next month

Rae Carson's Girl of Fire and Thorne series beginning with The Girl of Fire and Thorns (Fire and Thorns, #1) by Rae Carson

I would have definitely recommended the Seven Realms as well, but you've already read it!

ETA: I just noticed you said in the last year. Well in that case I stand by the Grisha series. I would also recommend In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters if you like historical fiction.

message 618: by Kim (new)

Kim *Mo Chridhe* (kimthebookcrier) | 80 comments Have you read the Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta? The last book in the trilogy, Quintana of Charyn (Lumatere Chronicles, #3) by Melina Marchetta , came out last year (this year for North America) and I thought it was amazing. The first book is Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles #1) by Melina Marchetta .

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 76 comments I read the first and didn't love it as much as every body else did. It was so so for me, I liked it but I haven't found myself wanting to pick up the next one.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I'm going to pull out (big surprise here) Rachel's suggestion that the Elementals series might be one you'd like if you haven't read it yet. It's a lot of fun, very light and funny, with sweet romances and some action/adventure. Start with Elemental (Elemental, #0.5) by Brigid Kemmerer first because it's short so you can get a feel for the series, and sets up some events to come.

I know you'd read Unwind already, but I'm not sure if you want other sci-fi like that?

I think most readers found the second one better but life's too short to read something you find lukewarm to begin with so maybe another book then :)

Of the above I recently enjoyed Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo ? The sequel was amazing!

message 622: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Some of my favorites from the past year(ish):
Seraphina (Seraphina, #1) by Rachel Hartman This is Not a Test by Courtney Summers Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein The Reece Malcolm List by Amy Spalding

I'll second the Fire & Thorn, Grisha, and Elementals series as well.

I don't know how I missed this. Read Fire & Thorn, only the first though. Liked it. Didn't know Unwind was a series, read the original and liked it. Loved the first half of DoS&B didn't like the second. It just bugged me.

Grisha and Elementals keep being recommended so I will give those a go, thanks!

Stacia, I read Unwind a few years ago and I loved it. I like scifi, but some things that people rave about I don't really care for. Like Across the Universe, so many loved that book and it was OK but nothing special for me.

Jenny, Seraphina looks right up my alley. I haven't checked the others yet.

I wonder if I can get any on audiobook as I still don't have much reading time. Then I can listen while doing packaging and while going on our walk. I am pretty tired these days so no reading before bed.

Thanks ladies!

Anna | 19 comments Hi folks I need some help to find some good collections of contemporary short stories which could be used with a class( home group/ tutor group) - teacher reads students listen. Any suggestions welcome - for use with classes ages between 12 and 16. (Yrs 7,8,9,10,11 in UK). I can think of lots of novels but no short stories apart from Roald Dahl.

message 627: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Contemporary as in realistic fiction or contemporary as in modern?

Anna | 19 comments Could be either as long as it holds the attention of a bunch on non reading 14-16 yr olds!

message 629: by Kdbrand (new)

Kdbrand | 353 comments I'm looking for some YA audiobooks. This summer I've listened to The Reapers Are the Angels (Reapers, #1) by Alden Bell Rebel Heart (Dust Lands, #2) by Moira Young The Crown of Embers (Fire and Thorns, #2) by Rae Carson On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta , and can't decide what to pick next. As long as the narration is good, genre doesn't matter to me. Anyone have some great audiobook suggestions?

message 630: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I don't really do audiobooks, so I'd be of no big help. Hopefully someone else in the group will have some suggestions. I've heard from several people that the audio for Daughter of Smoke and Bone is excellent.

Maybe there will be some sort of help here : http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

I absolutely adored the narrator on The Fault in Our Stars by John Green . She didn't just read the book, she became the characters and its the only audiobook that has made me laugh out loud while simultaneously doing the ugly cry. I also liked The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay . I didn't know if I would like the dual narration until about halfway through, and then it got really good and I was glad they had a guy doing Josh's part.

Robin (Bridge Four) (fionafixit) Kdbrand wrote: "I'm looking for some YA audiobooks. This summer I've listened to.."

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is Jim Dale of the Harry Potter series.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) by Laini Taylor I really enjoyed the audio of.

14 by Peter Clines was pretty good.

I agree with Kira about the Fault in Our Stars narration.

and I really enjoyed the audio of Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments I loved the audio for Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) by Laini Taylor ! The narrator does a great job with all of the voices.

Emily (librarylil) | 358 comments I second the recommendations for Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) by Laini Taylor The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater and The Fault in Our Stars by John Green .

Others that I've listened to and really liked include Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman Beauty Queens by Libba Bray and the Bartimaeus books by Jonathan Stroud. That one has a 3-part series, and a prequel that can be read as a stand alone. The Ring of Solomon (Bartimaeus, #4) by Jonathan Stroud

R.A. Desilets | 375 comments I love everything that I've heard Dan Bittner narrate (even the stories that don't rate so highly on goodreads). I think he just does a really great job of narrating.

Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) by Gayle Forman is read by Dan. (Noticed you already read If I Stay - I personally loved the sequel so much more than If I Stay... But I think that's also because I love Dan's voice)

I also really enjoyed Arclight (Arclight, #1) by Josin L. McQuein as an audiobook.

If you haven't finished the Giver series - those make good, quick audiobooks. And Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) by Kristin Cashore was done really well too.

Emily (librarylil) | 358 comments Okay, folks, to finish a challenge I'm working on, I need books set outside the U.S. I'm in good shape for Europe and Australia, but I really need Africa, Asia, and South & Central America. And Antarctica, if anyone knows a good one. I'll read just about any genre, though realistic fiction tends to be my favorite. I prefer YA over adult and NA.

message 641: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 560 comments Hey Emily! I've never read this one but I sent it to my brother's classroom library because it was on a ton of lists.

The White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean I can't imagine there are too many YA books about Antarctica out there, but this one is supposed to be good!
