Is there by any chance a list of acronyms commonly used around here? I've figured some of them out, but SRC and JRC are still eluding me, and I'm sure there will be another someday. :D

I'm a proposal writer for NASA... I write acronym lists all day, so it's amazing I want to see another one. >_>

message 1902: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24352 comments Lol - we should start one. I don't *think* there is one Erin but I'll go searching later this week.

I believe the SRC is something like Serial Reading Challenge in another group. I have no idea what JRC is though :)

message 1903: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments JRC is a new one for me too. I have an old list that I used for another group, I'm sure it would need to be updated as not surprisingly there are even more acronyms than five years ago! I should see if I can find it...

Michelle Pivaral (michellepivaral) Hi. I'm Michelle and I'm from Guatemala. I love books and music. I've been a member of good reads for a long time but I've never been active, even though I read all the time. So today I'm joining some groups to help me decide what to read next and find reading buddies, hope I get to know a little bit more of most of you :)

message 1905: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Welcome Michelle! If you are anything like me, getting into some challenges is the best way to figure out what to read next! I love trying to fit books into the different categories and finding those books that work for multiple challenges - almost as fun as reading! I hope you enjoy this group and any others you join!

message 1906: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments SRC is seasonal reading challenge - its another group here on GR, almost as addicting as this one ;)

JRC is a new one to me (although that is my companies initials - haha!)

Welcome to the group Michelle :) As Kat said, these challenges are great for organising what to read next, but also seeing what everyone else is reading and their reactions etc. Enjoy!

Victoria (bok_ka) | 2 comments Hey I'm Victoria. Just got into reading earlier this year and I am hooked! Im sold on any romance novel that's overly cheesy with a bunch of overly done clichés. Hoping to meet some people to share the feels with ><

Welcome Victoria! LOL - I think to read romance you have to be happy reading a heap of overly done cliches! It's all in the finese of them ;)

Ohh I can't think of one on the top of my head but Beautiful Disaster was one of the first ones I read and fell for hard :)

message 1923: by Rae (new)

Rae (thisthatandtheotherbook) Hi everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Raeyne. I joined this group to get a broader collection of romance started for those long winter weekends where I'm more than sure I'll be snowed in! I'm also going to be starting up a review blog at the beginning of the new year, so I'm looking for some great (or not so great) literature to mull over!

message 1924: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Welcome Raeyne! If you discover even close to the number of books I have here, you will be set for life! Hope you have fun here. =)

Jane (PS) | 24352 comments Welcome to the group Raeyne! Snuggling up with a book, wine and fire sounds lovely...

Katalin (katalinacastellano) | 7 comments Hello everyone! I'm Katalin, a Ukrainian girl living in Germany and I love reading. I always read books in different languages, but English is lately my favorite. I'm also new at Goodreads, so I need many friends here who share my passion for books and for the stories they tell :)

message 1930: by Shane (last edited Oct 24, 2015 06:26AM) (new)

Shane Hey everyone! My name's Shane and I love reading books especially those books with a hint of romance so if you guys have some rec, just fire away. Also, I'm hoping you guys can help me lessen my never-ending tbr pile but actually I don't have much hope in that one because I'm convinced it is alive and growing! I'd often wonder what it eats to be that big and then I'd remember the mysterious disappearances of my money. Oh well.

message 1931: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24352 comments LOL - oh yes ~ that TBR pile sounds ver familiar! Perhaps our piles are related???

Anyway - welcome to the group Shane. I'm sure we can help you get stuck into some challenges ;)

message 1934: by MountainKat, Moderator (last edited Oct 24, 2015 03:38PM) (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Welcome Shane! The challenges here do help you get books off your TBR, but they are also a great way to find new books to add! If you are lucky, you might read more than you add but it never seems to work out that way for me! =P It's lots of fun though!

Jacqueline | 6 comments Hey I'm Jackie from California I'm I read alot so why not make an account and join book groups right. I love looking for a great book and I believe everyone should at least read a book once a month.

message 1937: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24352 comments Hey Jackie. - welcome to the group! I love your policy of everyone reading a book once a month - the world would be so much better if people could chill out like that ;)

Jacqueline | 6 comments Jane (PS) wrote: "Hey Jackie. - welcome to the group! I love your policy of everyone reading a book once a month - the world would be so much better if people could chill out like that ;)"

Right! It doesn't have to be something non fiction and not interested to you but any kind of fiction to get the mind thinking is better than watching reality t.v that's really fake

message 1939: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24352 comments Agree :D I'm not big on TV - the first reality TV shows were interesting 10 years or more ago because they were so different, but now they aren't much chop, and mostly the contestants are just trying to crack the entertainment industry... Ho hum.

message 1940: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline | 6 comments Yes always seeking ways to stay in the spotlight. I don't think I had ever really follow a reality TV series. I prefer my book series lol

message 1941: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Welcome Jacqueline! I agree - book series are way better than most TV!

message 1942: by Oceane (new)

Oceane Montanea Hi everyone, I'm Kelly, from Brazil. I'll be joining n November Monthly Challenge already. Challenges are really always a lot of fun for me... for us all, I guess.
Hope my portuguese and spanish books can also be used for that...
Kisses.

message 1943: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24352 comments Welcome to the group Kelly! Glad to see you have already jumped in to the monthly :)

For your Portuguese and Spanish books, just post the English GR version so that we can see that they fit the category - if they haven't been translated, check with the mod/host running the challenge. It only really matters for the challenges where we have a winner/s ~ eg Pass The Parcel :D

So, if the monthly challenge says, for example, that I have to read a book starting with N, do I have to use the english edition, or can I use the one I read?
Thank you for answering!

message 1945: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments Hi Kelly! I hope you have fun here with the challenges!

As to your question in the monthly challenge, especially that category, I would just use the book in the original language since that is what you are using to qualify the book for the spot. For categories where the theme qualifies the book - either include how if works or include the English version. What Jane was talking about is more important in the competitive challenges where their is a 'winner'. The monthly is more just a challenge to yourself and we want everyone to finish as many as they are comfortable with!

Jessica (jemaler) Hello! :) I'm a newbie to Goodreads so bare with me as I have no idea what I'm doing. I love Romance novels and really any book with a good love story behind it. I'm a Kindle user but I don't mind reading a paperback. Looking for some Goodreads friends and some people I can talk books too! I'm from Michigan but currently live in Colorado. Can't wait to chat with some of you (hopefully).

Hi Jessica! Great to have you join us :) I use kindle, ebooks, audio and paperback, although i will admit to trying to avoid paperbacks now - I'll only read the ones I already own ;)

Jump into the challenges or linger in the chat threads, and you will be sure to meet our members and get to know us and our reading 'loves' :D

message 1950: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina The Book Lover Hi, I'm Sabrina from Belgium. I never used to be a romance reader until I read Julie Garwood's "Prince Charming" a few years ago whilst I was home sick with the flu. Ever since then I'm hooked. My favorites are historical romances, especially anything with Vikings or pirates! :-) I hope to meet lots of fellow romance-lovers here!
