October's Build Your Own Challenge

Duration - October 1st - October 31st.

Ahhh, yes. A new month, a new challenge - and I almost forgot about it! Thank you, Lethal, for the reminder!!!

So here we go: If you’ve done this before, and many of you have, you know the drill. If not, here’s how it works –

The challenges in this group are designed to be not very challenging, hence the title, Not Too Challenging Challenges. That means that you get to design the challenge around the books you want to read and the only requirement is that the books somehow remind you of October.

Some ideas might be –
**Books that are published in October.
**Stories that have something to do with Fall, Halloween, Columbus Day, etc.

The only restriction is that you can’t begin reading for this challenge until October 1st, and you must be finished on or before October 31st.

Count me in. But, since I'm also doing the Lisa Ladies' Favorite Books Halloween Party challenge, the All Things Autumn challenge, and an urban fantasy challenge, it may be a small list. It'll probably be paranormal or urban fantasy - containing either vampires, witches, werewolves, witches, fae, etc. Of course, it could contain historical because people do dress up in regency costumes, too. Or, it could be published in October! I won't have trouble finding the books - just getting all of them read. :)

Haha!!! I bet! I remember I tried to do it last year and I even checked out Salem's Lot from the library... or maybe I bought it? Anyway, I got too scared just thinking about reading it!

Salem's Lot is very scary. I think I'm a bit masochistic in that I really enjoy scary books, and movies, but they can be too much for me. I can't do the serial killer thing at all, though!

Serial killer stories scare the bejeezus out of me because they're not pretend vampires, or ghosts... they're real.

Remember Richard Ramirez, "The Night Stalker?" It was about 30 years ago or so that he was on the loose. I was terrified because my daughter was still little and I barely slept worrying that he'd break into my apartment and hurt her.

I do remember hearing about him and John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy, etc. Same here. Serial Killers are real life to me. I mean I believe that demons are real, but I believe that God protects us from demons. It's harder to know if the nice looking person isn't actually a psycho murderer. I can't watch any stuff with serial killers w/o getting freaked out. I watch Criminal Minds because I think Spencer is so cute, but sometimes I have to turn it because it disturbs me too much.

I often wonder if serial killers are just insane, or if they're possessed. I'm reading and if you remember Veck from Lover Unleashed you know his dad was a serial killer, and Veck struggles with that in Envy. And, the main storyline in Envy revolves around a serial killer, the one who was attack at the end of Lover Unleashed.

I still haven't read Crave, so I might not get to Envy for a while, but I am excited to read it. I'm very intrigued to read about Veck. He was very intense in Lover Unleashed. That must be awful to be the child of a serial killer. The new female agent on Criminal Minds is the daughter of a serial killer.


I think some murderers/psychopaths are possessed, but some are just evil. Probably a few are mentally ill and really don't have control over their actions.

Okay, ladies. Please help me with my "pet peeve" book this month.

I need a recommendation whose theme is "second chance at love." I mean the type of 2nd chance between two people who once had it and lost it - only to find it again. I'm not big on this theme; I figure, once it's over, man-oh-man, it's OVER.

Also, any recs will need to be available at my library, as I'm not buying it, LOL! (pun intended)

First thing that popped in my head was . I'm not a big fan of "2nd chance" romances-although, I don't go out of my way to avoid them either-but I thought PA was VERY good.

A first question, Lethal: After about 100 pages, I couldn't get into

(loved that someone said it should be called Not Quite a Wife. Is this more of the same angst?
