message 410: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments Jayda you are Mormon right? Would you mind explaining to me the book of Mormon? I know its kind of a mixture of the old and new testaments, and i saw something about how it tries to bring up the truth that has otherwise been edited out of the new testament, and bring the true life of Jesus and i thought that was pretty cool :)

message 411: by Jayda (new)

Jayda Yes, I am a Mormon :)
I'll most certainly explain the Book of Mormon to you! Would you mind if I typed it up and read over the explanation before I post it? I'm a little busy right now. I promise to get to it soon ^^

message 412: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments Sure no problem! Thankies!

Jayda Explanation of the Book of Mormon:

Joseph Smith Brought Forth the Book of Mormon

As a witness of Christ, Joseph Smith received authority to teach the gospel. He also brought forth additional scriptures. He was commanded to translate the writings of ancient prophets. These writings are found in the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

The Book of Mormon Contains the Writings of Prophets

The Book of Mormon contains the writings of ancient prophets. The first of these, Lehi, lived in Jerusalem around 600 B.C. The Lord commanded Lehi to lead a small group of people to the American continent. There they established a great civilization. God continued to call prophets among these people. The Book of Mormon is a collection of their writings. It is named after one of the prophets.

The Book of Mormon Prophets Taught about Christ

These prophets knew about the plan of salvation and the mission of the savior. In fact, after his resurrection Christ appeared to the people in America. He taught them his gospel and formed his church among them.

Another Testament of Christ

For centuries, the truth about the plan of salvation was available primarily in the Bible. God has now given us the Book of Mormon. It stands as another testament of Jesus Christ.

2nd Corinthians 13:1
"... In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established."

Here you can read all of or just passages from the Book of Mormon:

Any questions are welcome :)

message 415: by Mikaela (new)

Mikaela (loverdogmish) ok this might be off topic NOW but there is no reason women shouldn't be able to preach! dwe are ALL equal... is this really actually a big problem in places other than like the places that are obviously sexist???

Thats actually sounds really cool! So its more the writings of the prophets and Jesus than anything else right?

message 417: by Jayda (new)

Jayda We don't have anything that Jesus wrote, but yes about the prophets. It's quite similar to the Bible except that it's about the people who lived in America/this continent. ^^

message 418: by Chandani (new)

Chandani (milkduds920) | 6408 comments Thats really awesome!

I have a few questions. Why is there no record of these people in America, and how did they get to America, with the technology of the time?

message 422: by Jayda (new)

Jayda How do you know that there isn't any record of them? There might still be things out there, whether in America or in Jerusalem that tell about them. Otherwise I don't quite know the answer to that one :)

Nephi, the son of Lehi, who was also a prophet built a ship to cross the ocean with God's inspiration.

1st Nephi, chapter 17
http://scriptures.lds.org/en/1_ne/17

It goes on into chapter 18 which is when they sail with the guidance of the Liahona, which was a compass or curious workmanship made of fine brass which led them to The Promised Land, which is America.

message 423: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) | 7365 comments Mod
Because I googled it. :P Other cultures would have records of such people.

I find it unlikely that a boat built at that time could have crossed an ocean. Or a compass, as the compass I believe cam from Asia much later. But, of course, that's me. :)

message 424: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I meant undiscovered or untranslated. I'll have to ask my dad later when he gets home if there has been anything found that had a record of the people.

The compass was given to Lehi by God, and God instructed Nephi how to build the boat. So obviously you'd find it unlikely xD But nothing's honestly impossible.

It's highly offensive for men to decide what we can and can not do, or what we should and shouldn't do.

It truly IS scary for women to say that women should just cook and clean and be good housewives, but even still, at least they are women. At least they (well... most of them) understand that we are humans as well, and there's more for us than what the f'n Bible says or what men say.

Ugh. That sounds so feminist and I hate it but I HAD to say it...

Oh. And really men should stfu and hunt. That's all THEY are good for. Biologically they are actually inferior (besides the hunting/sporting thing). Their brains are inferior seeing as they have a hard time or just simply can not multi task.
Biologically and historically, women have been the multi-taskers, the gatherers (getting MOST of the food actually), the gossipers (and therefore the more intelligent and worldly), and literally the reason for the survival of the species!

What? Women can't protect themselves, they need men? No. Men just got the meat.

So if it sounds like I'm saying women should be the only preachers and men shouldn't have that luxury, then good. Because that's not what anyone really thinks. And that's the exact opposite view of what's going on here. And women just want anyone and everyone to be allowed to preach. Not for men to be oppressed. Just for equality.
How can ANYONE say that's wrong??

message 429: by Jayda (new)

Jayda I love how you bashed men xD
It made my day a tad bit brighter :)
Thanks for that.

Not really in my case... See my friends have sadly diagnosed me with a horrible, untreatable terminal disease. Its relatively new, but it was discovered by a doctor 16 years ago in the forests of brazil. Its called Obsession with the Male gender Dissorder or OMG'D.

I have lived with OMG'D for most of my life, and have come to terms that i will in fact ALWAYS drool every time Hugh Laurie comes onto screen. The side affects of OMG'D include:

-Telling everyone that i am married to attractive male actors
-THINKING that i am married to attractive male actors
-Mapping out routes on which i will most likely bump into cute guys ;)
-debating with my sister on which of my moms ex boyfriends is cuter
-ACTUALLY loosing my balance and falling (It happened TWICE) thinking abotu Hugh laurie.

Along with dizzyness, dry mouth and constipation. Lol
