Annie, no!!! Okay, so I'm going to be completely honest. Gabriella was one of those characters you want to strangle for a portion of this first book. She didn't impress me much for awhile. BUT, I'm telling you, you will love this and you just need to stick with it, she grows up and becomes an awesome heroine and I loved her in the second book. It's an incredibly sexy series that has both a contemporary and a PNR vibe to it, which makes it really unique. You'll be hooked by the end of the first book, and the second book was A-MA-ZING!!!

I'm probably going to be in the minority here, but I wasn't all that impressed with Thornhill (Hemlock, #2) by Kathleen Peacock . Maybe I'm just more into the NA and PNRs these days, but the YA paranormal stories without the deep emotions and physical connections that other series have just don't grab me anymore (in comparison, JLA's YA series with a lot of both always suck me in). This was kind of tame in both areas, so though the storyline was well-written I didn't feel connected to the characters as much. Loved the first one, so I'm bummed!

message 30919: by Annie (new)

Annie Brewer (anniebrewer) | 2351 comments Also reading Everneath (Everneath, #1) by Brodi Ashton , If Forever Comes (Take This Regret, #2) by A.L. Jackson , Angel (Angel, #1) by L.A. Weatherly and finishing Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi . These Dystopians are taking me forever to read. I'm liking it more than Divergent though. That genre just bores me, sadly.

It's different, for sure, but I ended up LOVING it. The tone of the story is unlike anything I'd read, and it has an absolutely beautiful love story that comes out of something really unexpected. Don't give up yet, hopefully it'll win you over soon and the rest will have you hooked. Seriously. LOL But if not, don't shoot the messenger. ;-)

I'm so happy you're enjoying it, hun, she's definitely a great writer. Especially since I was trying to sell you on this series!! LOL I think it may just be that I've gotten too used to the deeper relationships that come with other genres, because it's otherwise an awesome series.

I loved Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi and Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth equally, but I much prefered Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky, #2) by Veronica Rossi over Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth . So far, a better series over all IMO.

Belkis (bminaya) | 8313 comments So I finished Seraphina (Seraphina, #1) by Rachel Hartman and sadly it was so very disappointing. It slays me when I get so excited over a book that promises to be great and then doesn't deliver. My goodness so many parts of it were soooo boring and sooooo slow. Reading and truly enjoying Close Obsession (The Krinar Chronicles, #2) by Anna Zaires as well as Dark Light (Dark Light, #1) by S.L. Jennings which I'm enjoying very much thank goodness. Next up The Apollo Academy (Apollo Academy, #1) by Kimberly P. Chase hopefully it's not a let down. And will brave Beyond Shame (Beyond, #1) by Kit Rocha since it's indie month. And then I have to have to get to Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson, #4) by Darynda Jones because book three was fantastic!!
