Saying her characters are too similar to Harry Potter characters is an insult to J.K. Rowling. :P

True, I wasn't wanting to stop, I was wanting to make my own mind up, but it takes a while to get the facts when you hear something like this and get your head back into the book.

Teresa | 606 comments Emma wrote: "I am reading City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare was enjoying it until someone told me all about the plagiarism and I now do not know if I want to read it anymore."

I too have heard about this plagiarism accusation and I think it's ludicrous. I'm one of the few people who have never read the Harry Potter series and I haven't read her fanfiction either but from what I've gathered people are saying their are similarities between her fanfiction and her Mortal Instruments series. So what if there is? It was HER fanfiction, you can't plagiarize your own writing. I don't know how close her MI series is to HP but their are similarities in many of these paranormal books. People say that Hush Hush copied Twilight because of the whole biology class thing. I read both books and would say that other than the characters sharing a biology class together the books were totally different. I think people are just being way too critical. I really like the MI series and you shouldn't give up on it if you're enjoying it because of what a few people are saying. If you don't like the books that's a different story. Let's put it this way, if she really did plagiarize I doubt any company would have agreed to publish her books, they would have been too afraid of a lawsuit.

message 28855: by Emma (new)

Emma | 98 comments She did plagairise her fan fiction though, she stole other peoples work, she took quotes from films and t.v. shows. I am going to carry on because I cannot see how she would get away with it she copied city of bones, so it must not be true. There is so many books these days that you are ALWAYS going to get similarities, does not mean they are intended, there is only so many scenarios there can be especially when set in school.

Irene ~ Witchy Reads (witchyreads) | 422 comments I read a book that was plagiarized and didn't know it, until I put up my review up, someone commented on it and told me the whole story, I changed my review after that.. Oh after I searched the net for the facts and turns out it was the truth!
Anyways, in the case of TMI that is just crap, they are not going to make a movie about a series that was stolen by someone... Don't always believe what ppl say, try to find the facts first, go to the author website, forums or fan sites they will tell you if it is true or not... I hate it when I hear things like this...

And the first one wasn't even one that I ad planned on reading and do have to say I truly enjoyed it nonetheless. So really can't wait for book 2 which I've wanted to read forever yay!

I just finished this and... yeah. I have to agree that it wasn't JLA's best. Syd was kinda irritating - yes, very low self esteem (so glad she's not reading this haha). And Kyler was a total man whore, bossy pants. But, all in all, it was amusing and... okay. Not sure what I'm in the mood for next...

I'm semi into Spirit (Elemental, #3) by Brigid Kemmerer . Unfortunately I took a break b/w Spark and Spirit, so I'm out of it a little. Not quite in the mood for it, I guess. But so far (I'm like 25% through) it's good.

Okay, finished To Serve is Divine (The Divine Trilogy, #1) by R.E. Hargrave and I was impressed! Definitely one hot dom/sub story, and the BDSM was very realistic and wasn't cheesed up to make it more of a romance. May start the sequel this week!!

I know right? It wasn't a cliff hanger exactly but it kind of was because there is so much left open and I hate when they put characters on the covers because I like to imagine them in my head- and that guy on the cover of book 2 is not my Ronan- so I am pretending it isn't anyone- or maybe a ghost of some other person...not in the story... yeah, that will work...lol
