I like the Blackstone Affair series, but the all-Ethan POV for All In bothered me. I felt like his personality was changed in order to drag a male POV through a romance book. I still can't wait for the next book, though, it's a great series.

I absolutely loved Shattered, but I didn't warm up to Alyssa immediately. It was when Jesse really came into the picture that I started to see the side of her that I loved. Hopefully you'll like her more as the book goes on, I think it's a beautiful story. =)

Yeah it was so completely random, that's part of what made me so angry. Why throw in an entirely new character to just replace him?!! What was she thinking? Ugh, I didn't like the premise of this series anyway (and to be honest, I really didn't like the heroine to begin with), so she just lost a reader with this one.

Belkis (bminaya) | 8313 comments Thanks Erin :) yes, Ethan's POV took some getting used to but overall I liked it. I found this book to be a bit more blunt than the first one because of it but I still enjoyed it quite well and thought the author did a decent job of capturing his male perspective. Very looking forward to book 3 and I hope she can pull off the release by at least January if not this month as stated.

As for Shattered, I'm at 40% and still not invested in the story nor Alyssa. I'll admit that I've gotten glimpses of the potential that this story could have blossomed into but it inevitably falls short for me. The storyline isn't anything special so the only thing that could've sold it was character development and in that aspect for me at least it falls really really short. I never felt connected to Alyssa. She's just not a likeable character. Jesse is a little better but again not great and nothing new or convincing enough to well me with emotions and sell me on their plight. This one was just okay for me. And I had a very hard time with the typos and grammatical errors that just deterred from the story as well. Oh well, onto the next one I guess lol. Lord knows we have piles and piles of books to get to :)

Yes I had the same issues. I was starting to feel alone in not liking it. I thought it was going to be like The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allred which I loved, but it wasn't. I kept hoping she would stop being so foolish but it only got worse for me. I'm glad everyone else enjoyed it, but its no Sweet Gum Tree.

Yep, same for me. This was just okay. The Sweet Gum Tree was spectacular. The characters in Shattered were flat and I honestly did not care for the main character Alyssa at all. Plus I found the story to be unoriginal and in need of editing.

I'm reading it too Belkis. I'm in 30% now, a little bit bored so that I have to hold it on and read another book but I'm back to it and looking forward for Holder's story because he surely have something to tell about.

Btw, you're not Tinkerbell anymore, I have to look twice and wondering is this Belkis that I know or I have another Belkis as a friend? Lol, nice picture though :D

Yes, I also love Colleen Hoover, Slammed was awesome as her first book. That's why I'm going to read whatever books she wrote :D. I hope Hopeless will end 2012 perfectly, since I read lot of great contemporary romance this year, including Slammed and Point of Retreat, of course.

I'm sorry you guys didn't like Shattered, but to each his own, as they say! I compared it to SGT because it got to me emotionally the way that book did; maybe not in the same intensity, but it hit me hard the way Allred's work had.

I think perhaps I've lowered my standards with the typos because there are so many books that are riddled with them these days. Not all of them of course, and I appreciate the authors that go the extra mile, but I do tend to overlook at least some of the mistakes if I love the story. If I don't love it they're more pronounced to me, so I probably would have made similar observations as you if I didn't enjoy this as much as I did. =)

This is very true Erin. I've read plenty of books riddled with typos and tend to overlook them if I'm immersed in the story. And yes, different strokes for us all :) we all feel differently and relate differently to the same books.

Thanks hun! ;-) It's definitely different; I think a lot of people are going into it expecting another version of Kitty Thomas' Comfort Food or a Christian Grey-like MC, but it's not at all. He's actually just a misguided man who makes rash and insane decisions to try and win over the heroine. I personally thought the 2nd person voice that has been irritating other readers was actually an ingenious idea for this story, somehow it just works!
