I was really excited about it because people can actually check out e-readers and the purpose is really to provide greater access to technology.

But I don't see all libraries moving to this model. I know I still like to wander among the shelves :)

My neighborhood library is closed 2 days per week, one of which is Thursday. It's a really popular spot after school; you see a ton of kids doing homework and playing on the computers. It makes me sad to think about what their options are on Thursdays.

I have SO MUCH I have to say about libraries and ebooks and such. But I also have a 5-day old. For now, Jenny sums it up well.

The sad thing about going all digital is that lower income people probably will never have access to that. There are so many people out there that cannot even afford their power bill on a monthly basis. Also children do not have access to digital format books until they get older. I teach in a very low income area and it really is amazing how excited a child is receiving a free book of their own. I think that libraries are so important to that population.

ErikaWasReading (erikawastaken) Jenny, you are a book pusher :)

message 1409: by [deleted user] (new)

Sweet, nice work Jenny! When did it become acceptable to charge ten bucks for an ebook, though? Sheesh. I'm getting spoiled from finding good indie books for $2.99

message 1412: by Britt (new)

Britt (kalebsmome) Thanks Jenny. You are to blame for my book binge and I love it.

message 1413: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments Amazon now has a new program, where if you buy a physical copy of the book, you can get the Kindle edition for $2.99 or less. It's not on ALL titles, but it says they'll be adding more over time.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Did anyone else get a bunch of approvals from NG over the past day or two that came in way after the fact?

I'm sort of annoyed by this. Either approve me or don't. I don't want to get an approval weeks or months after I requested, when I don't want to read the book anymore because other friends I trust didn't like it.

On a positive note though, I think I finally broke through the Penguin bubble. I got a couple of new approvals from them.

I got one yesterday for a book I requested months ago, but it doesn't come out until December so I wasn't too perturbed. I'm more often irritated when they take months and months to decline me, saying they "met their limit on approvals". It's like yeah, because you waited for better prospects. Just decline me right away if you already know you don't like me enough!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Merin, I was so excited to see Forever up there.

Bri, King Hall wasn't bad. I think some of the heroine's behavior was over-the-top at times, but the story was a lot of fun.
