Isamlq | 612 comments Wendy F wrote: "I never get approved for Disney-Hyperion."

they don't approve me either... but it's a territory-rights thing... so I keep saying the book will get here eventually.

Jean Valjean (OG 2010) (courfeyrack) | 162 comments Me either, Wendy. From what I understand, they've gotten a lot better though!

message 1261: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments They usually approve me, but I haven't messed with my blog for a while so I dunno. :/

Becky (booklovingcoffeeaddict) I think I need to learn how to use NETGALLEY, you guys are always talking about it.

message 1264: by Becky (new)

Becky (booklovingcoffeeaddict) Don't forget today is Audio Sync free Audio Book day.

The 2 selections for today are:
False Price (YA) The False Prince (The Ascendance Trilogy, #1) by Jennifer A. Nielsen and The Prince & The Pauper (Classic) The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain (diff cover)

You have 7 days to download them for free! Enjoy!

message 1265: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Grooms (muse1009) | 100 comments I agree Becky. I have looked at the Netgalley site, but not sure exactly what makes one a qualified book receiver (besides being a teacher or librarian). Is it just if you have a blog where you post book reviews regularly? And how closely is that kind of thing monitored?

message 1266: by Carina (new)

Carina Not even a blogger guys, although it helps a lot being all of those things in the getting approved process.

But I'm not any of those things, and I still have an account.
I don't get approved for everything, but I have gotten approved for some good ones.

message 1267: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I got These Broken Stars. :D

message 1268: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Weee....I got it too but I'm having a problem with getting my arcs to my kindle.

I haven't changed my kindle email address and my permissions are still the same on my Amazon and NG accounts, but last week sometime, my books stopped sending to my Kindle, even though NG was saying that the books were sent. When I connect to my wifi and try to sync items, it says no new items.

What do I do? I know I should have probably asked in the how-to topic but since were talking galleys and I'm here...

message 1269: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I've had a few recently from NetGalley that did not go through. I resent them again later and they went through fine on the second try. So maybe just keep trying? I think something may be up with NG's send to Kindle function.

message 1270: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I might have to resort to spacing it out and trying on a different day because trying more than once in a day isn't producing different results.

I hope they get their stuff fixed. They do have some books currently disabled from being sent to Kindle.

In the meantime, I have a sort-of workaround but it doesn't work for all of the books. My Nook HD has overdrive on it, so if the book is available in epub format, I can download it right to my Nook while I'm on it and open the book with overdrive. My problem right now is the books that are only mobi or pdf because overdrive won't open the protected pdf books, even though my reader can open non-drm pdfs.

message 1271: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments It was several days before I noticed mine hadn't gone through and resent them. I dunno what the deal is.

message 1272: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Well at least it's sort of a comfort to know that other people might have had the problem and it fixed itself.

message 1273: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (chughesman) Stacia, do you leave your kindle on all the time? It could be something as simple as turning it off and turning it back on.

At the library, that's what we tell people to do if the Kindle book they've checked out doesn't show up and syncing it doesn't work either.

message 1274: by Ash Wednesday (new)

Ash Wednesday (ashwednesdaylee) I tweeted (yes, my 3rd tweet in the history of EVER) NG after not receiving my galley since last week after I was approved. They just linked me to the how to download section of their page (wow, thanks guys) but I did receive the galley after.

Maybe something went down last week?

Cristal (Professional Book Procrastinator) | 65 comments I had that issue not too long ago with a book not being sent to my Kindle Stacia. Are you doing it on a pc? Because I was doing it on my tablet and it didn't work, so I ended up logging into Netgalley on my laptop and hitting send to kindle and it actually worked that time. Idk it might've been just me...Stacia ~ Vixen of Variety wrote: "I might have to resort to spacing it out and trying on a different day because trying more than once in a day isn't producing different results.

I tried from both my tablet and from my laptop and no luck. :(

I also tried rebooting my kindle.

Ah well. Will try again another day.

What is Edelweiss?

message 1280: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments It's similar to NetGalley, but most of the publishers there are pickier about approvals.

Tiia | 1 comments Hi!
I just noticed that My Butterfly by Laura Miller is free on amazon (at least it was for me, I'm from Finland) I loved the first book Butterfly Weeds!
I don't know how to make that little book cover show on these comments, so here is the link to the book in goodreads:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...

Here is the link for amazon:

I did try to check B&N, but I don't use it, so maybe that's why I couldn't find it.

You have to sign up for an account. Then you have to be a reviewer of some sort, either by running a blog or here on Goodreads (and you'll want to link to your profile here or blog). Your approved requests are dependent on whether your approved by the publisher.

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Some good MG stuff on sale:

Coraline by Neil Gaiman $3.49
Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000...
Nook: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/coral...

The Black Cauldron (The Chronicles of Prydain, #2) by Lloyd Alexander $2.49
Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005...
Nook: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/black...
(Love this series. There's an old Disney cartoon movie based on it. This is book #2 of 5 but the other 4 are all < $5.00)

A Wrinkle in Time (Time Series, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle $3.49
Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004...
Nook: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/wrink...

I'm seeing quite a bit of MG sales and it looks like it's mostly/all award winning books (several Newberry books, etc.). Maybe it's a back to school thing?

If you have kids, Coraline is a good way to creep them the fuck out and make them appreciate you simultaneously, because you don't want to replace their eyes with buttons like the Other Mother does.

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA. If they start acting up, just sew giant buttons over one of their toy's eyes while you stare them down from across a dimly lit room and smile like a demented person. Works every time.

message 1300: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hmmm, I have a feeling your MOSTLY joking. But, the thing is when we took Lex to see Coraline at the movie I spent the next year or two (until it no longer worked) threatening her with the Other Mother. Asking her if she wanted button eyes. I even went so far as to show her the 'little door', which was really just the opening in the wall that led to our pipes, lmao. It worked for a while, now she just looks at me and rolls her eyes.
