Mad Scientist wrote: "I haven't read VA yet either. I don't really want to but I've been told time and time again that it is a YA must read series. Hmm... Someday."Ha! I thought I was the only one in this group that hadn't read the VA series! Good to know I have company. I do want to read it-I really do, especially when everyone talks about how great it is. I just keep putting it off for some reason....
I also haven't read VA and want to. But if I'm going to start a series that I may love, I need to have time to devote to it, and I just don't have that right now. That's the main thing holding me back.
I put off VA for a while because I thought it was going to be another Twilight type vamp story. It was so much more than Twilight though. (No offense to Twilight, I actually enjoyed it back when I read it. Now that I've read other books though I like it less and less.) I need to start Bloodlines. I think I'm worried it won't live up to VA though. (view spoiler)
You know, it's funny- I read the VA series a while ago (right before the last in the series came out), and while I liked it, I didn't LOVE it. I was kind of eh. But I like the Bloodlines series so much better, even though it is a spin-off. Maybe I'm not the biggest Rose fan? Just don't know how to put my finger on it...

I think most people do like VA better, but Wendy likes Bloodlines better because I think she relates more to Sydney, so you're not alone. I still prefer VA because Rose reminds me so much of myself at that age and I'm a diehard Dimitri fan, but I love Bloodlines as well. Both series are good for different reasons. :)And yes, VA is nothing like Twilight. At all.

Dont get me wrong, what now feels like a million years ago I enjoyed it. If I read it now...dunno. VA really is a class of its own.

Agreed!! I'm so glad I picked up VA. It gave me faith in vampire stories haha.
I think the only reason I read the Twilight books is because at the time I was taking 2 4000-level lit courses in college and it was all heavy stuff and I wanted something that was ridiculous.
By the time I was finished with that I was so ready to get back to Romantic and Victorian lit and literary theory and criticism and England's Other Others.
We had to read about the other Others from British lit in my Capstone course. So instead of people of color we read about Jews and Gypsies and Irish people and Dracula.

Of course. Dracula had to fight for his rights. I forgot. :pOh wait, do you mean the 'actual' person Vlad the Impaler?

After seeing The Black Prism, I'm making my mind up to register my Kindle in Amazon.com instead of using Amazon.es. Lately I haven't got such a luck with the local offers. Anyway, thank you Jenny, for so long and valuable search (extensively to all of you that publish in this thread)
So I read a thing on the Penguin tumblr or somewhere that said they don't approve bloggers through Edelweiss, only on NetGalley. But they never put the Razorbill shit up on NG, so I guess they don't want ecopies of those going out to bloggers. I dunno.
I just wish they'd go ahead and note that, or at least decline. I don't like that open ended waiting status. I did get approved for a book from a different division of Penguin on Edelweiss a couple of days ago, but maybe they just want to be stingy with the YA stuff.
Yeah, it'd be nice if they'd say they only approve librarians and booksellers. They hardly put any YA books on NG. Maybe they're one of those companies that thinks blogger access leads to piracy. I'm contemplating swearing off ARCs altogether. I'd rather read the polished, finished versions. Especially since I'm seeing more and more authors say that important stuff is missing from the ARC.
I may have to snag Ashfall. I dunno. My geology professor was overenthusiastic about volcano week and made sure we were all good and freaked the fuck out by the supervolcano under Yellowstone. I might lose my mind if I try to read it.
Penguin emailed me this press release this morning:"New York, NY, October 4, 2012—Berkley Books and Penguin Young Readers Group, two divisions of Penguin Group (USA), have teamed up to acquire Tammara Webber’s bestselling self-published novel Easy. The unique partnership between the two divisions is a nod to the wide range of readers—romance and YA fans alike—who have embraced Easy since the release of the self-published edition. Penguin Group will take over the e-book rights next week on October 9th, with a Berkley trade paperback edition hitting stores on November 6th."
So I'm guessing if you've been wanting to buy
but haven't done it yet that you should do so before the 9th when the price will likely double or more from $3.99 to $8-10.
Thank you Jenny. I bought Easy a few weeks ago, ha ha. But you have made me up my mind of buying through Amazon.com instead of Amazon.es. Unfortunately I haven't done it on time for the deals that interested me most at this moment, Free Four and The black prism. Were those daily deals like Ashfall or is there some regional constraint for deals? Ashfall costs 11.11$ now but I understand that if it was a daily deal, it's logical. Stacia message is from 10 hours ago and with the time zone gap... Obviously I'll have to hurry up a little bit!
I posted it right after it appeared at 1 a.m. my time (which is midnight Pacific, when they post the new deals). I'm not sure how that works out with other time zones.
Both of those are still priced at $1.99 for me. Maybe it has to do with your having a foreign IP address that you aren't seeing the sale prices?
Since you have checked I think it must be a regional constraint :( I was chatting with an Amazon guy and didn't tell me so. I'll check for the next days your deals but I think they just convert Amazon.es prices from € into US$ and that's all.

I LOVED Easy! If you're remotely interested in the book, I agree, snatch it up before the price skyrockets!

That characteristic was unknown to me because it's not in our local Amazon yet (hey, they started a year ago or so). I'm happy I'll be able to get some bargain too :)
(Afterwards)
*growl* Bad signal. Today's deal is not available for Europe...
DUDES. I feel that many of you guys should take advantage of this one because it's our group read for November. :)

I'd say don't go back to Bloodlines until you've read VA. I really think that you miss out on a lot of the character background by starting Bloodlines first. Most of the main characters from Bloodlines came over from the VA series. The male lead has a lot of issues explained throughout VA, so you know why he is the way that he is and how much pain he's going through, in a way you don't fully understand by just reading Bloodlines book 1.
