Daughter of Smoke and Bone audio book will be a FREE download the week of August 2-August 8 through SYNC's summer of reading. http://www.audiobooksync.com/free-syn...

message 528: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh that is right, I forgot about that! I have already listened to it, so that one on the schedule feel off my radar.

message 529: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 358 comments I just hate to see someone buy it, even on sale, when it will be free in under a month. I read it but heard that the audio is awesome and plan to download it once the free one is available.

message 530: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I agree Emily, glad you posted it. I loved the audio. It is really well done.

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Not sure if yall saw it already, but The Raven Boys (Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater is up on NetGalley.

message 535: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments Thanks Jenny. I had requested it but didn't think to mention it here.

message 536: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I got my approval this morning and did a happy dance. I'm seriously excited to read it. I thought Shiver was good, if slow. Then Linger bored the hell out of me until the very end (even though I did like Cole). I still haven't read Forever. But I listened to the audio for The Scorpio Races and LOVED it. So her stuff is back on my good side. The Raven Boys sounds like it has the potential to be pretty damn awesome. I hope I'm not disappointed.

message 537: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I still haven't read Forever either. The motivation has not been there. I'm one of the rare few who liked Linger much better than Shiver. Cole was much more interesting to me.

message 538: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm trying to stay away from Galley's but I did request that one. I'm pretty excited for it.

I liked Shiver, thought Linger was just okay, but I also haven't read Forever yet.

I've also heard that Scorpio Races was good, but haven't read it yet. I'll have to check that one out.

message 539: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Jul 16, 2012 02:10PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I want to read Raven Boys but I think Stiefvater's style of writing isn't my favorite. She writes beautifully but her books do have a slower pace to them.

message 540: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 358 comments Wendy, if you do audio books, I reccomend Scorpio Races on audio. Really helps set the scene. And hers are slower in pace, which I think is easier on audio. I tried Shiver and didn't make it past chapter 2, but I LOVED Scorpio Races.

message 541: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) She's definitely slower paced. It's a lyrical prose to me, pretty.

If I had a commute I would totally do audio, as it is it's hard to do for me because when I try to do it cleaning or cooking I find I'm not paying attention. And when I'm just chilling, it's usually with my hubby and he's not interested in Audios.

message 542: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments The audio for Scorpio Races is 700 shades of amazing. It was done with a girl and a guy alternating according to whichever POV was up at bat. If I would have read it, I highly doubt I would have liked it as much as I did.

message 543: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I LOVED the audio. But I think I would have liked it just as much (or maybe only slightly less) if I had read rather than listened. Because Puck is so goddamn awesome. I love her narrative voice and her saucy attitude. Sean is cool too, but Puck's character and the setting made the book for me.

i was denied approval... and I actually wanted to read that one too! boo!

message 545: by Leea (new)

Leea I requested The Raven Boys awhile ago and was denied. I really enjoyed Shiver but the rest went down hill from there. I was hoping this next series was better. I guess i'll just wait till it's out.

message 546: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I haven't got a response yet. I'll probably get denied too, lol.

message 547: by Regina (last edited Jul 17, 2012 07:38AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Sometimes they take foreveeeerrrrrrrr and then a response comes out of nowhere. I have noticed on Edelweis, they review they are denials. I have been rejected but then without me asking again, I get an approval months later.

I am not requesting it b/c while I think parts of Shiver were beautiful and unique and some bits stay with me, I was incredibly bored during that book.

message 548: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Ladies - Thanks for recommending the audio for the Scorpio races. I just put in my wish list at the library!
