Thank you Jenny. As usual I checked this too late. The Thief is at its usual price again but it doesn't matter. It's still affordable and seeing your enthusiasm I think I really must order it.

message 760: by Jenny (last edited Dec 02, 2012 12:35PM) (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments The Thief is awesome. A lot of the book is travel and conversation so that turns some people off to it, but Megan Whalen Turner is kind of a genius with her foreshadowing and clues and reveals. The ending is totally worth it. And Gen is probably one of my favorite characters ever in high fantasy.

Edit: It's still showing at $1.99 in the US.

message 761: by Carina (new)

Carina Oh man, I better grab it then. You and other of my friends love it, Jenny, so I need to get to it soon. (And I have the pefect excuse in the near future...muahahah!)

Off to look it up and look at reviews...

message 765: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Dec 03, 2012 10:48PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments I did. My review will probably scare people off though. I wasn't a big fan.

But...a lot of people love the book, so I'd say that anyone who loves extremely intense love stories will probably find that the book works for them. So don't let my negative review throw you off if you're in the mood for a strong love story. It might work for you.

It was just too "OMG EVERYTHING WILL FALL APART IF WE DON'T TOUCH" for my liking.

If nothing else, you can't go wrong with free. It's no risk. :) Thanks for letting us know Cristal. I love that other people have been keeping up on the free books because I've been slacking at keeping up with what's out there. It's a big help for the group!

Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001...

Not sure why it's the third book that is so cheap, but if you've been wanting to read these or to have them in ebook then might as well grab it.

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments The Fierce Reads Anthology Volume 2 by Ann Aguirre is free. It contains short stories from Ann Aguirre, Gennifer Albin, Elizabeth Fama and Lish McBride. It really isn't hard, I promise! It's how I was able to get Saltwater Vampires by Kirsty Eagar for Nook. Jenny pointed out it was being sold on Kobo but not Amazon or B&N so I just bought it on the Kobo website and removed the DRM. I think removing DRM has a really bad reputation.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments It's considered a sketchy thing because books can be shared once the DRM is off, but I understand why people would want to purchase books and use them for the type of reader that pertains to them.

Anyway, I will back away from that discussion here because it's like opening a can of worms.

Im sure that is probably a wise move haha in other news Kindle AUS does not like having sales!

message 788: by Jenny (last edited Dec 11, 2012 02:01PM) (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments There's been a lot of argument over whether removing DRM, even for your own personal use, is legal or not. DRM is fucking stupid. It COMPLETELY (and yes, I did just caps bold italics underline that shit) fails at being of any use whatsoever to its intended purpose of preventing piracy. It takes a simple Python script and less than one second to remove the DRM from something. All DRM does is hinder honest people from accessing their media on multiple devices. Why so many people and companies are incapable of understanding or accepting these simple and proven facts is beyond me. Everyone should be like Tor and go DRM-free. That's all I'm gonna say about it.

I like sales.

Free on Amazon

This is an indie 'New Adult/Mature YA' book that I'm reading right now. It has sexual situations, and is more romance with romantic intrigue, but I'm really enjoying it so far, I'm at 45%. (I'll review fully later today when I'm finished.)

Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else wanted to give it a shot.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments An adult series, but I know there's a few fans in the group and I'm about to check it out, since I've been reading her YA series.

The author just put the first 5 books of Elemental Assassin up for sale today for $2.99. I'm assuming that this is because book 8 in the series comes out soon (which is currently up on Edelweiss).
