This sounds really interesting and I think it will probably be next up on my reading list. Have to hurry though, the newest book in the "Destroyermen" series will be available tomorrow!

I finished Blood of Innocents (Sorcery Ascendant Sequence, #2) by Mitchell Hogan by Mitchell Hogan. That's the second book in the Scorceror Ascendency series. Good read. it's a return to the Epic Fantasy I remember of old. Love the magic system and world building and completely fleshed out characters. I started Straits of Hell (Destroyermen, #10) by Taylor Anderson the thent book from the Destroyermen series by Taylor Anderson.

It has started well. Some familiar things now join with some new things from the last book that I thought were curiously loose ends.

My pleasure Mike. This book reminds me of the solid Epic Fantasies of the 70s and 80s. Good characters (even if Caldon is a tinsey bit naive) love the magic and good world building (still lots of questions about that). It does remind me of something that I read back then, but I can't remember what it is. I enjoyed it and the sequel and it's narrated by Oliver Wyman who narrated the MHI Series. He does a great job with it.

Thanks. I've had a whole string of mediocre books. Not sure if it's the books or if I'm just burned out. I've get several library books to finish first, then I can try this series.

Michael (fisher_of_men) Just finished The Cuckoo's Egg: Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage by Clifford Stoll. Although the technology is dated, the story is reviewing. Highly recommend.

Just started The Holcroft Covenant by Robert Ludlum.

Rizwan Khalil For the last 3 months I was going through the AWESOME Joe Ledger series by Jonathan Maberry starting with Patient Zero and last week finished the latest Predator One. Still can't get my mind around to another new book after the epic, EPIC climax of the last one... Not only it was one of the best climactic sequence of the whole series, it was one of the best most thrilling climax I've read in a couple of years, did I mention it was epic? Anyway, this series has become one of my most favorite action-thriller series ever, specially since the fourth one Assassin's Code each one can be described as one of the best of the series. Not many authors can do that one after the other each year, but Maberry has done it. I think I'll start with his other books like the Benny Imura young adult-zombie thriller series (where Ledger made cameo appearances) and the Dead of Night duology (each of his series are indirectly connected in the same universe).

I managed a return to the tenth book of the Destroyermen Series by Taylor Anderson. THe first book of that series is Into the Storm. The tenth book is Straits of Hell It's a good series. It's very Edgar Rice Burroughs (in a good way). Lots of action, there is romance but it suitable for young readers, certainly as young as middle school (Jr. High?)

I also like how the tenth book is very empathetic with the soldiers. It's a good read and a good audiobook. I'm enjoying it.

Finished The Straights of hell. It's good (if you like the series, you'll like this one). To me it was very much like book three (in pace and temperment, different stories and subplots).

I've started reading Peter the Great: His Life and World. It's a "tome" of History, but, there's already been a revolt and rebellion with Russian Nobility getting thrown over the balcony to the spears below and some Behind the scenes machinitions by the lovely and intellegent Sophia...

Rizwan Khalil Almost at the 2/3rd of The Great Zoo of China. Insanely preposterous, outlandish, outrageous, unbelievable sequences (keyword is 'insane') one after the other... And just as much pure unadulterated FUN! Matthew 'Madman' Reilly is at his best in what he does, and I'm loving it like always.

I agree with you Rizwan. I finished this a few weeks ago and it was a lot of fun. Definitely a Jurassic Park feel to it. I highly recommend it for our next month's group read.

Just finished it mere minutes ago. As I was hoping a typical feverishly fastpaced nonstop actionpacked bombastic Matt Reilly read. I was glued to the book for the last couple of days. And as per most of the Reilly-novels, short on character developments and depths but no shortage on close calls, convenience and coincidences :P Still this one is pure timepass summer-blockbuster entertainment, just what I need from Reilly. I gave it 4 stars. Looking forward to the next months group read discussions!

Rizwan Khalil Reading the 2nd novel of Chess Team series Instinct. Mysterious contagious desease spreading, ancient secrets and mysteries to find a cure, exotic and rough terrains, death squads giving chase at every turn.... All the familiar elements are present, I'm becoming bored with all these modern A/A containing more or less the same formula. Still, the writing of Robinson is enjoyable, and the main characters of Chess Team are all very likeable, so its a good read. But I really hope for something new in the next books of the series.

Rizwan Khalil Currently reading Signal (Sam Dryden, #2) by Patrick Lee , newly released 2nd book of the Sam Dryden series by Patrick Lee. I just finished Fat Assassins and I "got to stop by and recommend it". This is a sort of comic/action adventure. I hadn't been aware of the book or the writer though the book goes back to 2011. I found the book fall down funny and gave it 5 stars (and most of you know I don't do that often).

I needed a laugh and got lots. Well, anyway since neither the book(s) nor the author had been on my radar until i saw this recommended by a friend here I thought I'd mention it for others who'd missed it.

Just finished the book. Not a must-read, but still an entertaining diversion about recruiting the Mafia in Sicily to support the Allied invasion of the island during WWII.

Sharon Michael | 449 comments Just finished Waiting for Shadow which is a prequel for a series. I will almost always try a book with a dog on the cover and am often disappointed, but definitely not in this case. Definitely an introduction to a series, but I was hooked on this one from the beginning. This author is starting to be one of the 'new to me" authors I look for.

message 4650: by Michael (new)

Michael (fisher_of_men) Just finished The Scoreless Thai (Evan Tanner, #4) by Lawrence Block . It's the 4th book in a series. Very entertaining.
