Chapters 21-25
30. Tru seems to be looking to Mason as a role model. Do you think this is a good choice for him? At the same time, he seems angry with Ange for being such a good mother. Can you understand this emotion?
Considering he's never had a good male role model, yes I can understand both looking up to Mason and being angry with Ange.
31. Jenna can't seem to understand Mason's tenderness in private and his unwillingness to show emotion during times of stress. Do you think she is being unfair in her judgment of his motivation?
Their at crossroads and she really doesn't seem to be trying to understand where Mason is coming from. Of course, I can say that, what with knowing what's going on in his head. But when you're in a situation with a man who's giving a crap load of mixed signals, it's difficult to see past your own pain.
32. The way the authors describe the newfound powers Jenna and Mason seem to be gaining seems very animalistic (i.e. he could smell her fear, the primal tingles they get, her heightened sense of hearing, and the way they can go out of body to connect with the creatures). Do you think this is foreshadowing of some sort?
Big time.
33. Mason insists several times that the animals learn and adapt very quickly, and that he doesn't know how much they remember from before. Do you think they have memories from before they turned? Would that impact the way you see the creatures?
I doubt it. And no, they're still disgusting. ^_^
34. No power. Do you think they made the right decision in going to the station in the first place? What do you think about the supply run they are going on now? Will we get to see what is happening back at the station?
They had to go to the station. I don't think that cabin would have stayed intact if the animals were throwing themselves at the door all day. And the supply run was another necessary move. I didn't think we'd see what happened at the station since both our main characters weren't there.
35. Jenna's motivation seems a little clearer after we hear that she doesn't want to be like her mother. Are there some things about your parents/family's experiences that you definitely don't want to repeat?
Definitely.
36. The relationship between Mason and Jenna is so volatile at this point. What did you think of her attack on him and the sexy scuffle that followed? Was Mason a little too rough with her?
I think it was exactly what they needed, other than a good, hard screw.
37. Finally some honesty between our hero and heroine! Do you think there are better days ahead for them?
For a little while at least!
Chapters 26-30
38. Mason actually shared? I'm all agog! You?
It was the right place and time for it. There weren't four other people hanging around and they have a lovely reprieve at the hardware store.
39. Was Mason testing her, when he offered that they could run away and never return to the station for others?
I think he was telling her that he would do whatever she needed, even if he didn't agree with it.
40. Yeesh! The howling of those beasts reminds me of the scene from Jurassic Park where the raptors communicate with each other.
Seriously!
41. I hate it that we're doled out pittances about Mitch the prophet. Can't we have been told the whole story?
I think it's the same problem we've had with the last couple of reads. We want the whole backstory, but we need to be kept in the dark with the characters. Otherwise we'd be crying info-dump. ^_^
42. Huh.. So the people don't just turn into dogs or wolves. There's a whole variety of other animals.. even insects. What does this signify? Personality types?
I had wondered! I'm not sure if I buy the totem spirits theory either.
43. So why didn't the beasts follow them into the village/town?
I have no idea.
44. "Home. Oh God. Yes. But for Jenna, it was a person, not a place. It was Mason." Remember this, as you read ahead.
^_^
45. Buying the theory about only evil people making through the transformation? What if Edna could have made it and Mason never gave her the chance?
She wouldn't have made it. He didn't kill her, her body tore itself apart. It would have happened even if they tried to take her with them.
46. Oh, chapter 30 made me cry. What do you think will happen next?
I can't remember which part made you cry, sorry!
Chapters 31-35
47. “Wrath and purpose fused into something new, harder than steel, more fluid than mercury. This new feeling transcended pain.” Do you think this passage, the purpose to save Mason, affected the results of Jenna’s change? What did you think of her mind snapping in two?
It did. Her science and modern day soaked brain just couldn't handle the pain and the magic of shifting.
48. Were you surprised at Mason’s reaction when he realised the wolf was Jenna?
Not really. I'd have probably reacted the same way.
49. What do the cell differences between the rabid dogs and Jenna mean? How could this affect future changes /bitees? What about Dr Welsh’s resistance to magic? How will he adapt in this new world when everything needs a scientific explanation for him?
Light vs dark magic I'd say. It depends on circumstance and the way the body evolves to deal with the magic I guess? Welsh will be forced to accept the new world.
50. Any comments on how the group dynamics are changing? What do you think of the different roles everyone has to play?
It's working for me.
51. What’s significance of Penny’s first words being about the wolf, and her open friendliness to Jenna?
She's adapted to the world around them and I'm betting she has magic of her own.
Chapters 36-40
52. What did you think of Chris's reasoning/explanation for Jenna's successful shifting? Did they all second guess the judgement concerning Edna, as her must have experienced a pretty high jolt of trauma? Could she have made it?
I still say Edna was a lost cause. I bought the contagion/trauma theory.
53. What are your thoughts on this budding relationship between Ange and Chris? Do you think they are just grasping onto something to make all of this newness easier (especially with Chris's fears of being obsolete)?
With a limited dating pool and high stress, I figure they're just taking comfort where they can.
54. Did you predict Mason's reactions, even after having Jenna back and apparently okay, and were they justified or was this his way of pushing away and controlling his environment?
I still can't figure out why he was trying to keep himself completely separate from Jenna.
55. What are we thinking of Jenna at this point? Is she handling the transition well? Has she fully grasped all that Mitch left behind for them to learn and build from? Is her new mental tone that Mason is the only thing of importance, at the sacrifice of the others, a lasting one?
At first I didn't like it, but it makes sense that she'd shift wildly from one thought patter to another. It would take time for her two natures to weave together.
56. I was a little put-off by this: "He liked the distance—needed it, just as his body needed its grinding release." Thoughts on why he needed the distance if she was offering him the dominance.
Didn't like that at all and I can't figure it out still.
57. After the beasts tried to get in, were you surprised by Chris and Ange's stance on death at her own hands rather than risking a beast attack?
Not really. though the mom-card was seriously getting over played.
58. Was Mason's reaction to close off the tunnel excessive? Also, was I the only one that felt like he was assuming too much and acting a little callous with Jenna (ex:him insisting on her acting as diversion in leaving the tunnels so he could place the bomb)?
It was the only way for them to get the dogs to stop trying to get in. I figured he knew she was the best equipped to handle herself, especially given her increased senses and shifting ability. I think he also figured they'd both die, in the back of his mind.
59. Tell me I wasn't the only one shaking their head in bafflement at the role reversals right before the bomb went off between Mason and Jenna?
Yeah, that threw me.
60. Does the theory of a traumatic episode in order to shift need tweaking after reading Chapter 40 and Jenna's delayed ability to shift?
Good question. I'm confused about it!

52. What did you think of Chris's reasoning/explanation for Jenna's successful shifting? Did they all second guess the judgement concerning Edna, as her must have experienced a pretty high jolt of trauma? Could she have made it?
I like that there were several factors – or “ingredients,” if you will – that had to be in play before her change was successful. This is often the case in real life.
53. What are your thoughts on this budding relationship between Ange and Chris? Do you think they are just grasping onto something to make all of this newness easier (especially with Chris's fears of being obsolete)?
Hmmm… that could be part of it. But I think they like each other. And if you are going to rebuild the human race…
54. Did you predict Mason's reactions, even after having Jenna back and apparently okay, and were they justified or was this his way of pushing away and controlling his environment?
Given his history and the fact that he is a man… nope. LOL!
55. What are we thinking of Jenna at this point? Is she handling the transition well? Has she fully grasped all that Mitch left behind for them to learn and build from? Is her new mental tone that Mason is the only thing of importance, at the sacrifice of the others, a lasting one?
I think she handling it pretty well. And I hope not!
56. I was a little put-off by this: "He liked the distance—needed it, just as his body needed its grinding release." Thoughts on why he needed the distance if she was offering him the dominance.
I don’t know. Because he has one of those things between his legs?
57. After the beasts tried to get in, were you surprised by Chris and Ange's stance on death at her own hands rather than risking a beast attack?
No, not really. I was kind of expecting it.
58. Was Mason's reaction to close off the tunnel excessive? Also, was I the only one that felt like he was assuming too much and acting a little callous with Jenna (ex:him insisting on her acting as diversion in leaving the tunnels so he could place the bomb)?
I think it was a smart move and a last ditch effort. I would have like him to be a bit more… loving since this could be it… instead of not “sugar coating it”… but other than that, no, not too callous. Plus, she has wicked new senses now, even in human form.
59. Tell me I wasn't the only one shaking their head in bafflement at the role reversals right before the bomb went off between Mason and Jenna?
It was all right with me, actually. When two people become “one” they often start to take on some of the characteristics of the other partner.
60. Does the theory of a traumatic episode in order to shift need tweaking after reading Chapter 40 and Jenna's delayed ability to shift?
That had me worried there for a bit, LOL! So, yes!

Epic, indeed! LOL!
#31 – “But when you're in a situation with a man who's giving a crap load of mixed signals, it's difficult to see past your own pain.”
True!
#36 – “I think it was exactly what they needed, other than a good, hard screw.”
LMAO! Yes, the more I thought about this after I posted, I also think Jenna “sister wolf” was starting to emerge here (when she jumped on Mason’s back in the woods).
#41 - “Otherwise we'd be crying info-dump. ^_^”
Ah! The voice of reason.
#46 – I could be wrong, but I think Megan meant the part where Jenna was injured and all the angst with that - and she wanted Mason to leave her. Little teary-eyed myself.
#49 – Ah! Two different types of magic? Interesting.
#53 – “limited dating pool” … much better phrasing than me!

52. What did you think of Chris's reasoning/explanation for Jenna's successful shifting? Did they all second guess the judgement concerning Edna, as her must have experienced a pretty high jolt of trauma? Could she have made it?
I think Chris may have been right. But like Sans said:
She wouldn't have made it. He didn't kill her, her body tore itself apart. It would have happened even if they tried to take her with them.
53. What are your thoughts on this budding relationship between Ange and Chris? Do you think they are just grasping onto something to make all of this newness easier (especially with Chris's fears of being obsolete)?
Many relationships are formed during stressful times. They don't endure.
54. Did you predict Mason's reactions, even after having Jenna back and apparently okay, and were they justified or was this his way of pushing away and controlling his environment?
Hehehe i"m going to agree with Lisa Kay on this one.
55. What are we thinking of Jenna at this point? Is she handling the transition well? Has she fully grasped all that Mitch left behind for them to learn and build from? Is her new mental tone that Mason is the only thing of importance, at the sacrifice of the others, a lasting one?
I dunno who she has become anymore. Don't wolves have some sense of pack duty? You can't believe that Mason's the only pack she's got.
56. I was a little put-off by this: "He liked the distance—needed it, just as his body needed its grinding release." Thoughts on why he needed the distance if she was offering him the dominance.
I agree with what Lisa Kay said.
57. After the beasts tried to get in, were you surprised by Chris and Ange's stance on death at her own hands rather than risking a beast attack?
Yes, ange wasn't a person who would want to kill herself, she'd fight for her daughter to the end. Chris would just want to study them even as they ate him up.
58. Was Mason's reaction to close off the tunnel excessive? Also, was I the only one that felt like he was assuming too much and acting a little callous with Jenna (ex:him insisting on her acting as diversion in leaving the tunnels so he could place the bomb)?
Excessive, yes. But I think he believed Jenna would make it.
59. Tell me I wasn't the only one shaking their head in bafflement at the role reversals right before the bomb went off between Mason and Jenna?
Weird!
60. Does the theory of a traumatic episode in order to shift need tweaking after reading Chapter 40 and Jenna's delayed ability to shift?
I agree with what Megan said.

#46. The scene where Jenna got bit.
#49. I like the idea.
@ Lisa Kay:
Your answers made me giggle. You were totally in Sans mode!

Yes, I was channeling her, LOL!

61. You know, I just have to comment that I really like Tru’s character. It is neat to see a character develop and we get to see his background. So neat that he saved Jenna. Hopefully, that will make his story (book #3) richer. I think thing seep into our subconscious, expanding the characters’ personalities. Sometimes I see someone doesn’t like a book in a series that I love and then find that they didn’t read the whole series. Comments. I think romance genre is one of the worst at labeling where (or if) a book is in a series; why is that? It certainly leads to more people reading books out of order. (Sorry, rant done.)
62. Penny does teleport! What else can she do? No answer on the Finn character. Why is everyone so sure he is imaginary? Why are we, the reader, smarter than the characters in this book and able to question this?
63. So, everyone (but me!) was right and Ange bit the dust. Comments on her exit?
64. Mason goes mano a mano with the pack leader? While the others watch? How realistic is that?
65. Okay. I’ll be honest and was expecting something to go one with a blood exchange, but not that! Didn’t the authors forget to add a shower scene after that smear feast of bodily fluids?
66. How did you like the epilogue? Did Jenna use a delaying tactic on John again? Man-oh-man! Not me. Do you like epilogues to be set weeks, months, years away from the end, or doesn’t it matter to you? And, thank goodness; no cliffhangers with regards to the next book.

52. What did you think of Chris's reasoning/explanation for Jenna's successful shifting? Did they all second guess the judgement concerning Edna, as her must have experienced a pretty high jolt of trauma? Could she have made it? They did second guess, but the comment was also made that she’d been too sick by the time she turned to have survived it. She’d had the fever for a few days at that stage, hadn’t she? Whereas Jenna’s change occurred within the first day of the fever.
53. What are your thoughts on this budding relationship between Ange and Chris? Do you think they are just grasping onto something to make all of this newness easier (especially with Chris's fears of being obsolete)? I think they’re seeing each other as a tentative light in an otherwise bleak existence.
54. Did you predict Mason's reactions, even after having Jenna back and apparently okay, and were they justified or was this his way of pushing away and controlling his environment? I didn’t predict it, but I could understand it to a certain extent. He doesn’t want to hurt again like he did when he thought she was dead.
55. What are we thinking of Jenna at this point? Is she handling the transition well? Has she fully grasped all that Mitch left behind for them to learn and build from? Is her new mental tone that Mason is the only thing of importance, at the sacrifice of the others, a lasting one? I think she’s handling the change extremely well, but I also think she is more B&W thinking than before. She’s acting more on instinct that reasoning or emotional compassion.
56. I was a little put-off by this: "He liked the distance—needed it, just as his body needed its grinding release." Thoughts on why he needed the distance if she was offering him the dominance. I can’t say it bothered me, but I was surprised Jenna didn’t have more of a negative reaction to it. She’s always been the one pushing him for closeness.
57. After the beasts tried to get in, were you surprised by Chris and Ange's stance on death at her own hands rather than risking a beast attack? Yes! That shocked me.
58. Was Mason's reaction to close off the tunnel excessive? Also, was I the only one that felt like he was assuming too much and acting a little callous with Jenna (ex:him insisting on her acting as diversion in leaving the tunnels so he could place the bomb)? A lot fo that scene was a blur for me. I couldn’t picture it happening. Jenna being the diversion made sense to me as she is now the faster runner and stronger in her wolf form.
59. Tell me I wasn't the only one shaking their head in bafflement at the role reversals right before the bomb went off between Mason and Jenna? LOL! I thought that too.
60. Does the theory of a traumatic episode in order to shift need tweaking after reading Chapter 40 and Jenna's delayed ability to shift? Yes. But maybe she was too busy worrying to just go on instinct, whereas when she was sick and stressed, she just reacted, no overthinking.

(Sorry, rant done.) Hmmm, I’m a stickler for series reading books in order, but then I also hate spoilers so the two are intertwined for me. I have noticed that there seem to be less and less romance standalones these days. I may be cynical, but especially in the romance genre, I think it’s a marketing ploy because authors and publishers know we get attached to the characters so we want to read more about their world, their friends and hopefully get more glimpses of the HEA.
62. Penny does teleport! What else can she do? No answer on the Finn character. Why is everyone so sure he is imaginary? Why are we, the reader, smarter than the characters in this book and able to question this? I don’t know that we are smarter. I’m assuming he’s imaginary simply because he hasn’t come out to eat and there was no mention of him appearing in the epilogue which is from 2 years later. Not sure what else Penny can do but looking forward to book 3 :-)
63. So, everyone (but me!) was right and Ange bit the dust. Comments on her exit? Lisa Kay, I didn’t see it coming either when I read it Lisa Kay, which is why I was so surprised when everyone guessed it way ahead. I thought her death was almost anti-climactic.
64. Mason goes mano a mano with the pack leader? While the others watch? How realistic is that? nope, not believable, but by that stage we’re so caught up in the action that we devour the words in that scene.
65. Okay. I’ll be honest and was expecting something to go one with a blood exchange, but not that! Didn’t the authors forget to add a shower scene after that smear feast of bodily fluids? eeewwww.
66. How did you like the epilogue? Did Jenna use a delaying tactic on John again? Man-oh-man! Not me. Do you like epilogues to be set weeks, months, years away from the end, or doesn’t it matter to you? And, thank goodness; no cliffhangers with regards to the next book. I think it depends how the future setting is done, but I was disappointed in that one. Just because I’d invested emotion in such a short space of time and then felt like the hardships of the 2 years in between had been glossed over.
Once again, thanks for a great buddy read ladies! Looking forward to the next one :-)

#55 – I agree about the B&W thinking.
#57 – Really!
#58 – I had trouble get the logistics of that one too. One think that sadist GRRM does better – write an action/battle scene. He had kind of ruined me for other writers.
#61 – Granted, it is a little easier to read a series in order, thanks to the internet and GoodReads. I actually used my GRs app on my iPod/Touch in the Brick & Mortal bookstore and again at the library the other week to check out a series. Totally spoiled me.
#62 – I don’t know what Finn is, but I don’t think he is imaginary! We’ll see. ☺
#63 – I’m so glad I wasn’t alone! ☺
#64 – I didn’t think so either. I began to suspect that one of the authors was male… but nope.
#65 – LOL!
#66 – Oh, I really liked it. Until she put him off on the sex! Stupid.

I didn’t predict it, but I could understand it to a certain extent. He doesn’t want to hurt again like he did when he thought she was dead.
Good point. That's the best explanation anyone has come up with so far for how he reacted.

I think it’s a marketing ploy because authors and publishers know we get attached to the characters so we want to read more about their world, their friends and hopefully get more glimpses of the HEA.
So true!

61. You know, I just have to comment that I really like Tru’s character. It is neat to see a character develop and we get to see his background. So neat that he saved Jenna. Hopefully, that will make his story (book #3) richer. I think thing seep into our subconscious, expanding the characters’ personalities. I think romance genre is one of the worst at labeling where (or if) a book is in a series; why is that? It certainly leads to more people reading books out of order. (Sorry, rant done.)
I've always thought that we won't need to read romance books in order. Dunno why.
62. Penny does teleport! What else can she do? No answer on the Finn character. Why is everyone so sure he is imaginary? Why are we, the reader, smarter than the characters in this book and able to question this?
Penny can do anything she wants but Penny'l still be creepy. I don't think he's imaginary at all.
63. So, everyone (but me!) was right and Ange bit the dust. Comments on her exit?
Expected it to be that way.
64. Mason goes mano a mano with the pack leader? While the others watch? How realistic is that?
Like CaroB said, those scenes whizzed past me.
65. Okay. I’ll be honest and was expecting something to go one with a blood exchange, but not that! Didn’t the authors forget to add a shower scene after that smear feast of bodily fluids?
CaroB put it beautifully..eeewwww
66. How did you like the epilogue? Did Jenna use a delaying tactic on John again? Man-oh-man! Not me. Do you like epilogues to be set weeks, months, years away from the end, or doesn’t it matter to you? And, thank goodness; no cliffhangers with regards to the next book.
The epilogue was fine. I don't mind them being set a little ahead in time. It depends on how its written, I guess.

62. Penny does teleport! What else can she do? No answer on the Finn character. Why is everyone so sure he is imaginary? Why are we, the reader, smarter than the characters in this book and able to question this? Aren't we always smarter than the characters? LOL! I am stumped on Finn....maybe he's her spirit guide ahahaha! It could happen.
63. So, everyone (but me!) was right and Ange bit the dust. Comments on her exit? I agree....totally anti-climactic. But I've expected it from the first, so I can't say I was surprised.
64. Mason goes mano a mano with the pack leader? While the others watch? How realistic is that? Not very realistic, but it was cool to read. I enjoy a good fight now and then so long as they don't last 10 pages and hold my attention.
65. Okay. I’ll be honest and was expecting something to go one with a blood exchange, but not that! Didn’t the authors forget to add a shower scene after that smear feast of bodily fluids? I concur. ewwwwwwwww!
66. How did you like the epilogue? Did Jenna use a delaying tactic on John again? Man-oh-man! Not me. Do you like epilogues to be set weeks, months, years away from the end, or doesn’t it matter to you? And, thank goodness; no cliffhangers with regards to the next book. I actually prefer epilogues that are further along in the future, so I can make sure they are still together and happy. I'm a big fan of HEA, not HFN, and I just need to make sure. I enjoyed this epilogue a lot, and I think it's an interesting place to leave off.
I've enjoyed this buddy read so much, guys.....hope to read more with you in the future!

Next to Jenna, Tru was probably my favorite character here, so I thought it was great to see him evolve and I'm glad we'll see him again in the future. As for series in romance, I will read a series out of order if its about various couples in each. Maybe its because I'm reading so much after reading summaries from GR, but I don't have too much problem distinguishing series from stand-alone. I will say that I'm getting tired of all the series though. Too many to keep track of, hence I'm okay with reading out of order.
62. Penny does teleport! What else can she do? No answer on the Finn character. Why is everyone so sure he is imaginary? Why are we, the reader, smarter than the characters in this book and able to question this?
That Penny girl can do anything I think, she's got all the magic wrapped around her pinky finger it seems. I think everyone around her has so much going on that it's too much to consider that Penny is not talking to an imaginary person. Just a little creeped out at what he is though. lol
63. So, everyone (but me!) was right and Ange bit the dust. Comments on her exit?
I saw that one coming, and she went out strong.
64. Mason goes mano a mano with the pack leader? While the others watch? How realistic is that?
The mano-a-mano fighting didn't bother me, over the top yes, but dogs will do what dogs do, you know?
65. Okay. I’ll be honest and was expecting something to go one with a blood exchange, but not that! Didn’t the authors forget to add a shower scene after that smear feast of bodily fluids?
Again way over the top and too much related to the reader. I wasn't grossed out over it, but I did think it was unnecessary after everything. And like you said, Lisa Kay, shower people!
66. How did you like the epilogue? Did Jenna use a delaying tactic on John again? Man-oh-man! Not me. Do you like epilogues to be set weeks, months, years away from the end, or doesn’t it matter to you? And, thank goodness; no cliffhangers with regards to the next book.
I liked the epilogue and timing of it. Glad to know that they're still not stuck in the bunker after all that time. Will be interesting to see Chris's path in the next book and if we see Jenna and Mason again.
This was fun ladies, see you again next month!

#61 – **Lisa Kay takes a bow** There are way too many series out there. It is overwhelming. Some are great, and I’m addicted. I would say I stick to the series order about 80% of the time. Every once in a while I accidently get a book that is not the first in a new series and I read it anyway. But less so, now that I have access to GRs and people post that one must be read in order. Plus, after joining GRs, my TBR pile is now a mountain.
#62 – Spirit guide? Don’t laugh, could be! LOL! (Ooops… I laughed.)
#65 – LOL!
#66 – I liked this one too. Not a big fan of HFN either (seeing more and more of those).

#61 – Yes, GRs has been a big help to me. Especially now that I can use my iPod/Touch in B&N & the library. GRs has a great apps, BTW. Do you use it?
#62 – LOL! Yeah, who knows what Finn could be?
#64 – True! Men are dogs.
#65 – LOL!
#66 – Oh, good point about the bunker. I was glad they were outside too! I’m also wondering if we see J&M again.

# 64: hehehe I'm pretty sure that isn't what Megan said!"
It wasn't? **hee hee**

#61 – Yes, GRs has been a big help to me. Especially now that I can use my iPod/Touch in B&N & the library. GRs has a great apps, BTW. Do you use it?"
Not yet. Hoping to get an Iphone when my contract renews, but be assured it will do there within 24 hours of getting a new phone!

I haven't read this book yet, but I'm loving Ann Aguirre's Sirantha Jax Series and the Ava Gray's Skin Series
I'm gonna have to move this book up on my list.

#58- I see your point about equality. At the time I was like, "Heck no, don't run out into a mob of beasts" lol
#60- Here I thought it was always a traumatic event that would trigger a shift.
