Lina LOL Lisa! Nah, They're not that bad, but 3 and a half weeks is a loooong time to have people staying in your space, judging your horrendous housekeeping skills! Iain's no help either, he's out of the house for 17 hours at a time so offers no distractions for them. Last time they were here I was reading while the kids were having a nap and I got a comment about how they'd never seen a mother of three with so much free time. Needless to say, the house looked spotless from that moment on :-)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Hey, I hear you. My in-laws stayed for 3 months once. (Their winter was cold and our warmer.) My father-in-law kept telling me who won the hockey game first thing in the morning b/f I got to the newspaper (which he had). It got so I would go to the dry-cleaners and sit in the car reading the newspaper, loving every game play, until they opened.)

Sans SORRY!!! No lunch break and I started on the Moosehead when I got home. >_<

Sans' questions for 16-20

22. Ange: The lady doth protest too much methinks? Why do you think Penny screamed and attached herself to Tru?

23. Snow. Is Mason right? Will things calm down now that winter is here?

24. Did Penny have a bad dream or a vision? How did she get in their room anyway? And! She's talking? Is it significant that Penny is communicating with just about everyone other than her mother?

25. Has anyone else read Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniel's books? What similarities do you see?

26. Jeeze, we finally find out Mason's first name. (Not a question, just a tipsy observation on my part. ^o^ )

27. Would you be able (or want to) survive in a new "Dark Age"? How do you feel about Jenna's statement that she wishes she weren't a surviver? Is it nerves talking or do you think she genuinely wishes she hadn't lived to see this?

28. Damn, even as a woman, I think Jenna was out of line. Opinions on keying a man up, then dropping him cold?

29. First major emergency in their new digs. Did you think this would happen, some major issue crop up in the middle of an almost-lovers quarrel? How about Jenna's hearing and sudden vision? What the hell is that about?

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Sans' questions for 16-20

22. Ange: The lady doth protest too much methinks? Why do you think Penny screamed and attached herself to Tru?

I kept thinking about it too but it may be because (view spoiler)

23. Snow. Is Mason right? Will things calm down now that winter is here?

The way they're depending on the winter to make everything all right.. makes me think otherwise.

24. Did Penny have a bad dream or a vision? How did she get in their room anyway? And! She's talking? Is it significant that Penny is communicating with just about everyone other than her mother?

Neither. I think she was just screaming to creep em out. Yeah, same reason.

25. Has anyone else read Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniel's books? What similarities do you see?

Why does it seem similar to you? I likened it to the series because of the tech going bonkers after magic hits.

26. Jeeze, we finally find out Mason's first name. (Not a question, just a tipsy observation on my part. ^o^ )

I know!!

27. Would you be able (or want to) survive in a new "Dark Age"? How do you feel about Jenna's statement that she wishes she weren't a surviver? Is it nerves talking or do you think she genuinely wishes she hadn't lived to see this?

Dunno, the way she keeps fighting for her life seems to indicate that its just her nerves. I don't think I'd survive for even an hour in a new Dark Age.

28. Damn, even as a woman, I think Jenna was out of line. Opinions on keying a man up, then dropping him cold?

I think he deserved it, the way he kept rejecting her.

29. First major emergency in their new digs. Did you think this would happen, some major issue crop up in the middle of an almost-lovers quarrel? How about Jenna's hearing and sudden vision? What the hell is that about?

Yep, it HAD to happen. Yeah, that is what I said earlier. The book becomes something different as the story proceeds. Yo0u wont even recognize it by the time we reach the ending.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sans' Questions for Chapters 16-20

22. Ange: The lady doth protest too much methinks? Why do you think Penny screamed and attached herself to Tru?
I don’t know! Must have been a doozy of a nightmare/vision. I’m more curious why she crawled into Tru’s lap.

23. Snow. Is Mason right? Will things calm down now that winter is here?
Nope.

24. Did Penny have a bad dream or a vision? How did she get in their room anyway? And! She's talking? Is it significant that Penny is communicating with just about everyone other than her mother?
I think she has some power. Teleportation or the ability to change into a small animal or insect. Whatever, she got into their room the same way she got into that thicket. Cool that she is talking. Wow, didn’t notice that about not talking to her mom, but I did notice she stares at her in a gazed/lost way.

25. Has anyone else read Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniel's books? What similarities do you see?
I read the first one. Yes, some similarities. The magic, the shape shifting. But in IA’s book there were blankets of magic areas. I don’t think this one is like that. But I agree about the “pendulum swings” – or return of magic idea.

26. Jeeze, we finally find out Mason's first name. (Not a question, just a tipsy observation on my part. ^o^ )

27. Would you be able (or want to) survive in a new "Dark Age"? How do you feel about Jenna's statement that she wishes she weren't a survivor? Is it nerves talking or do you think she genuinely wishes she hadn't lived to see this?
I think I would survive. Maybe my odds are less than they would have been 30 years ago, but I think so. I think it was nerves talking and just a touch of “cabin fever”.

28. Damn, even as a woman, I think Jenna was out of line. Opinions on keying a man up, then dropping him cold?
Yes, especially since it was somewhat intentional; well, that and she didn’t want an audience.

29. First major emergency in their new digs. Did you think this would happen, some major issue crop up in the middle of an almost-lovers quarrel? How about Jenna's hearing and sudden vision? What the hell is that about?
Something had to interrupt them! Yes, whatever is happening to Jenna is progressing.

Lina CaroB's Answers for chapters 16-20

22. Ange: The lady doth protest too much methinks? Why do you think Penny screamed and attached herself to Tru? Ange’s reaction seems really weird, but I’m guessing she’s just totally freaked out when it comes to anything Penny-related. As for Penny’s scream, maybe she had a foretelling dream that scared her. I thought it was strange that she touched both the guys before settling on Tru, like she was looking for something in particular.

23. Snow. Is Mason right? Will things calm down now that winter is here? Nah, we’re not even halfway through the book! Surely there’s got to be lots more action.

24. Did Penny have a bad dream or a vision? How did she get in their room anyway? And! She's talking? Is it significant that Penny is communicating with just about everyone other than her mother? That’s got to hurt for Ange, but yet Penny doesn’t seem distrustful or scared of her in any way, just not that willing to communicate with her… wish we knew more of their backstory!

25. Has anyone else read Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniel's books? What similarities do you see? I haven’t but I keep hearing about them, so think I’ll have to move them up my TBR list.

26. Jeeze, we finally find out Mason's first name. (Not a question, just a tipsy observation on my part. ^o^ ) Lol, I thought Mason was his first name – but then I have a liking for surnames-as-first-names for males. *grin*

27. Would you be able (or want to) survive in a new "Dark Age"? How do you feel about Jenna's statement that she wishes she weren't a survivor? Is it nerves talking or do you think she genuinely wishes she hadn't lived to see this? Wow, what a great question. I’d have to say I’m a fighter, so yes I’d want to stay alive, but don’t think I’d have anything useful to bring to the table… I think it’s an easy thing to say when times are tough, but survival instinct kicks in when she’s tested.

28. Damn, even as a woman, I think Jenna was out of line. Opinions on keying a man up, then dropping him cold? Dirty, dirty trick. And she’s not helping herself, why would he want to get close to someone who treats him like that… Having said that, I think it’s interesting that if the situation were reversed, we probably wouldn’t judge a man as harshly for doing the same thing.

29. First major emergency in their new digs. Did you think this would happen, some major issue crop up in the middle of an almost-lovers quarrel? How about Jenna's hearing and sudden vision? What the hell is that about? Maybe Jenna is channelling some magic abilities inherited from her father.

~Megan~ (megadee) Sans' questions for 16-20

22. Ange: The lady doth protest too much methinks? Why do you think Penny screamed and attached herself to Tru?
Penny is kind of freaking me out with her weird touches and gazes. I agree that she was looking for something by touching both of the men, but what exactly? I do know (view spoiler), so maybe that plays a part as well.

23. Snow. Is Mason right? Will things calm down now that winter is here? Winter is coming....sorry, had a little Game of Thrones flashback. I don't think things will calm down any time soon.

24. Did Penny have a bad dream or a vision? How did she get in their room anyway? And! She's talking? Is it significant that Penny is communicating with just about everyone other than her mother? I am still confused on how she got in their room...I think they just dismissed it as they weren't listening, but I don't think that's right at all. Maybe she got in there the same way she hid when they were near the pit.

25. Has anyone else read Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniel's books? What similarities do you see? The whole magic wave thing had me thinking of Kate Daniels. There's also a general post-apocalyptic, every-man-for-himself type of feel to both books. KD just happens to be one of my very favorite series, so any similarities make me happy. If only my Beast Lord were in this one....*sigh*

26. Jeeze, we finally find out Mason's first name. (Not a question, just a tipsy observation on my part. ^o^ ) I was a little surprised that wasn't his first name...I guess I wasn't even thinking about it.

27. Would you be able (or want to) survive in a new "Dark Age"? How do you feel about Jenna's statement that she wishes she weren't a surviver? Is it nerves talking or do you think she genuinely wishes she hadn't lived to see this? I think a part of her probably does wish she hadn't lived to see it. That's part of every survivor's mentality, but she's a strong chick, and I don't think she'd really want to die. I, on the other hand, am not a strong chick and I'm quite sure I wouldn't have made it this far.

28. Damn, even as a woman, I think Jenna was out of line. Opinions on keying a man up, then dropping him cold? It greatly upset me, and made me want to kick her in the teeth. I'm not a fan when either party does that to the other. I don't understand her reasoning either...how do you fight emotional rejection with emotional rejection and actually believe this will bring about happy results?

29. First major emergency in their new digs. Did you think this would happen, some major issue crop up in the middle of an almost-lovers quarrel? How about Jenna's hearing and sudden vision? What the hell is that about? I have been DYING to read the next part, but I didn't want to read ahead. Trying to have willpower in all areas of your life seriously sucks as a goal LOL!

Oh my word, our family dog just died a few months ago. I was so not even worried about it the whole time he was sick, but then they called me to tell me he was gone, and I just literally broke down. You don't even know how much you love those critters until something happens to one of them.

Heather (messybar) Sans' questions for 16-20

22. Ange: The lady doth protest too much methinks? Why do you think Penny screamed and attached herself to Tru?

Not sure what I think Penny's ability is, but she has one and I think she has problems communicating it, so she screamed to get the guys attention.

23. Snow. Is Mason right? Will things calm down now that winter is here?
Too much hope has been placed on the snow helping them for it to work out that way. If these monsters learn to adapt and have been around a while (out East), then I think they will play in the snow.

24. Did Penny have a bad dream or a vision? How did she get in their room anyway? And! She's talking? Is it significant that Penny is communicating with just about everyone other than her mother?
Again, when it comes to Penny, things are a little too vague for me to get a handle on it. I think she is trying to communicate with those around her because they are the ones trying to protect and work, whereas Ange is just protecting her.

25. Has anyone else read Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniel's books? What similarities do you see?
Tried reading the 1st one, but couldn't get into it at the time. Can't offer any insight on this one.

26. Jeeze, we finally find out Mason's first name. (Not a question, just a tipsy observation on my part. ^o^ )
I like referring to him as Mason more. lol

27. Would you be able (or want to) survive in a new "Dark Age"? How do you feel about Jenna's statement that she wishes she weren't a surviver? Is it nerves talking or do you think she genuinely wishes she hadn't lived to see this?
I honestly don't think I would want to live in this new world. I think Jenna is having some guilt at still being alive, but its just nerves and unease and not being happy with how things are at the moment.

28. Damn, even as a woman, I think Jenna was out of line. Opinions on keying a man up, then dropping him cold?
I thought it was cold, but she kept trying to get through to Mason and in a moment of insanity gave him the frustration that he has been dealing her for the ride so far. Not that I agree, but I can understand at the time. She regretted it later, so I can look past it.

29. First major emergency in their new digs. Did you think this would happen, some major issue crop up in the middle of an almost-lovers quarrel? How about Jenna's hearing and sudden vision? What the hell is that about?
I figured some kind of attack would happen to their location. Jenna's abilities keep expanding, just wondering when she's going to become God. I think all of these abilities are getting a little over the top.

~Megan~ (megadee) Megan's Questions for 21-25

30. Tru seems to be looking to Mason as a role model. Do you think this is a good choice for him? At the same time, he seems angry with Ange for being such a good mother. Can you understand this emotion?

31. Jenna can't seem to understand Mason's tenderness in private and his unwillingness to show emotion during times of stress. Do you think she is being unfair in her judgment of his motivation?

32. The way the authors describe the newfound powers Jenna and Mason seem to be gaining seems very animalistic (i.e. he could smell her fear, the primal tingles they get, her heightened sense of hearing, and the way they can go out of body to connect with the creatures). Do you think this is foreshadowing of some sort?

33. Mason insists several times that the animals learn and adapt very quickly, and that he doesn't know how much they remember from before. Do you think they have memories from before they turned? Would that impact the way you see the creatures?

34. No power. Do you think they made the right decision in going to the station in the first place? What do you think about the supply run they are going on now? Will we get to see what is happening back at the station?

35. Jenna's motivation seems a little clearer after we hear that she doesn't want to be like her mother. Are there some things about your parents/family's experiences that you definitely don't want to repeat?

36. The relationship between Mason and Jenna is so volatile at this point. What did you think of her attack on him and the sexy scuffle that followed? Was Mason a little too rough with her?

37. Finally some honesty between our hero and heroine! Do you think there are better days ahead for them?

30. Tru seems to be looking to Mason as a role model. Do you think this is a good choice for him? At the same time, he seems angry with Ange for being such a good mother. Can you understand this emotion?

In times like these, yeah Mason is a good role model. I don't think coddling Penny will help her in any way, Tru's right about that.

31. Jenna can't seem to understand Mason's tenderness in private and his unwillingness to show emotion during times of stress. Do you think she is being unfair in her judgment of his motivation?

I'd be confused too, if I met a guy who could switch himself on and off so easily.

32. The way the authors describe the newfound powers Jenna and Mason seem to be gaining seems very animalistic (i.e. he could smell her fear, the primal tingles they get, her heightened sense of hearing, and the way they can go out of body to connect with the creatures). Oh yeah!

33. Mason insists several times that the animals learn and adapt very quickly, and that he doesn't know how much they remember from before. Do you think they have memories from before they turned? Would that impact the way you see the creatures?

They may have memories but it wouldn't change how I think about them, even if they bite a chunk out of me while quoting Socrates, right?

34. No power. Do you think they made the right decision in going to the station in the first place? What do you think about the supply run they are going on now? Will we get to see what is happening back at the station?

Reminds me of the movie 30 days of night. What else could they have done? Supply runs always get people killed in the movies (unless they happen to be the lead characters). Hoping that we shall get to see what happens at the station after they leave.

35. Jenna's motivation seems a little clearer after we hear that she doesn't want to be like her mother. Are there some things about your parents/family's experiences that you definitely don't want to repeat?

Yep, not repeating them over here either! ;-)

36. The relationship between Mason and Jenna is so volatile at this point. What did you think of her attack on him and the sexy scuffle that followed? Was Mason a little too rough with her?

Nah, they both seem to like it. Me too.

37. Finally some honesty between our hero and heroine! Do you think there are better days ahead for them?

If one of them doesn't die..sure!

Heather (messybar) Megan's Questions for 21-25

30. Tru seems to be looking to Mason as a role model. Do you think this is a good choice for him? At the same time, he seems angry with Ange for being such a good mother. Can you understand this emotion?

I personally believe that he has a lot of issues to resolve, but he's working towards them. From what we know so far, Tru doesn't have a male role-model, so he's latching on to Mason. As for Ange, his own mother seemed to have several faults, so it might be harder for him to trust a female mothering type.

31. Jenna can't seem to understand Mason's tenderness in private and his unwillingness to show emotion during times of stress. Do you think she is being unfair in her judgment of his motivation?
I think she's getting there in understanding Mason, but not there yet. He closes himself off so completely and she needs warmth and it hurts her in the process. She needs something he has never given before, so I think they both need to give a little.

I think the whole book is foreshadowing, which while I get it, is a little much at the same time. I do think some kind of shifting is happening to both of them, but what that is at the other end is a mystery to me so far.

33. Mason insists several times that the animals learn and adapt very quickly, and that he doesn't know how much they remember from before. Do you think they have memories from before they turned? Would that impact the way you see the creatures?
Maybe they have instincts that carry over, not so much memories. These beasts seem more instinct driven to me, rather than thinkers.

34. No power. Do you think they made the right decision in going to the station in the first place? What do you think about the supply run they are going on now? Will we get to see what is happening back at the station?
The path was choosen for them the moment Jenna insisted they take in the group, so the station was the correct path. They didn't have power before, so the station offered them more options than the cabin. As for the supply run, it seems a bit of a stretch to travel 40 miles with all the beasts tracking them. I hope we get to see what's happening at the station as we've heard from Try already.

35. Jenna's motivation seems a little clearer after we hear that she doesn't want to be like her mother. Are there some things about your parents/family's experiences that you definitely don't want to repeat?
Of course!! lol I have traits that I have from my parents that I wish I didn't have and fight them when I realize they are affecting my life constantly.

36. The relationship between Mason and Jenna is so volatile at this point. What did you think of her attack on him and the sexy scuffle that followed? Was Mason a little too rough with her?
Jenna has a LOT of bent up emotions and she hasn't been able to let them out. She has to be strong and leader with the others and Mason's actions make her think the showing emotions would make her weak. I loved the battle in the snow. I feel that Mason is very dense and I wouldn't mind whacking him upside the head if it would help.

7. Finally some honesty between our hero and heroine! Do you think there are better days ahead for them?
I certainly hope so! I believe that they are at a much better place and really getting to understand each other.

~Megan~ (megadee) Megan's Questions for 21-25

30. Tru seems to be looking to Mason as a role model. Do you think this is a good choice for him? At the same time, he seems angry with Ange for being such a good mother. Can you understand this emotion? Tru is fast becoming one of my favorite characters...I can just see the tortured guy he will grow into. I love that we get to see him this young, when he is becoming a man and yet still has some childishness about him. I think Mason is just what he needs right now, and his feelings for Ange stem from his resentment and distrust of mother figures.

31. Jenna can't seem to understand Mason's tenderness in private and his unwillingness to show emotion during times of stress. Do you think she is being unfair in her judgment of his motivation? I have to be honest, I wanted to strangle her for a good long while. For someone who apparently has these powers to feel what he was feeling, she was only scratching the surface. If she'd tried a little kindness, she might have gotten better results.

I definitely do think so. It's just too obvious in the way the author has been choosing to word everything.

33. Mason insists several times that the animals learn and adapt very quickly, and that he doesn't know how much they remember from before. Do you think they have memories from before they turned? Would that impact the way you see the creatures? I think they probably do, but you guys are right....if they're attacking me, I don't really care LOL! It might make me stop and think, though, before I just blindly killed one. Maybe this one isn't evil?

34. No power. Do you think they made the right decision in going to the station in the first place? What do you think about the supply run they are going on now? Will we get to see what is happening back at the station? I don't think they had another choice at that point. Things were getting out of control, and there was no way for them to survive without more supplies and the part to fix the power. I would love to see Tru's perspective on what was happening back at the station.

35. Jenna's motivation seems a little clearer after we hear that she doesn't want to be like her mother. Are there some things about your parents/family's experiences that you definitely don't want to repeat? Oh my word YES! I feel like I'm becoming more and more like my mother every day. The things I say just make me cringe sometimes. There are definitely experiences I don't want to share as well, and I have some trust issues because of them.

36. The relationship between Mason and Jenna is so volatile at this point. What did you think of her attack on him and the sexy scuffle that followed? Was Mason a little too rough with her? I have to say I found the whole scene pretty hot. There were a couple moments I thought he might've been too rough with her, but she really didn't seem to mind. The ugliness of their words was starting to grate on me by that point.

37. Finally some honesty between our hero and heroine! Do you think there are better days ahead for them? I've never been so relieved in all my life. If any two needed to air out a few things, it was these two. I am hoping only good things from here on out, but we've got quite a bit of book left.

#22 – Read the spoiler. (view spoiler).

#23 – LMAO! I thought the same thing when I read the winter is coming…” part. And we know things didn’t calm down in A Game of Thrones!

#24 – I don’t know how she did either…but I have my suspicions. Teleportation or shape shifting into something small.

#28 – Ah! Well said, Megan. “…how do you fight emotional rejection with emotional rejection…” But so many people do, with less than happy results.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Megan's Questions for Chapters 21-25

30. Tru seems to be looking to Mason as a role model. Do you think this is a good choice for him? At the same time, he seems angry with Ange for being such a good mother. Can you understand this emotion?
I think it is neat that Mason is such a good role model for Tru, it is good for both of them as Mason has some unresolved issues. You are right about Ange and I don’t know what that is all about, except some of those issues are related to his own mother.

31. Jenna can't seem to understand Mason's tenderness in private and his unwillingness to show emotion during times of stress. Do you think she is being unfair in her judgment of his motivation?
I can see why she thinks as she does. However, most men don’t show their tender side in public; it is the way they are raised – not by women, but by men. Only if you’re lucky do you get to see the soft gooey center inside in private.

Yup.

33. Mason insists several times that the animals learn and adapt very quickly, and that he doesn't know how much they remember from before. Do you think they have memories from before they turned? Would that impact the way you see the creatures?
Yes, I think that is what he meant and I think some may. No. They are still killers – trying to kill them!

34. No power. Do you think they made the right decision in going to the station in the first place? What do you think about the supply run they are going on now? Will we get to see what is happening back at the station?
I don’t think they had any choice. Plus, it follows the typical “apocalyptic” shopping scene, which I love.

35. Jenna's motivation seems a little clearer after we hear that she doesn't want to be like her mother. Are there some things about your parents/family's experiences that you definitely don't want to repeat?
Some, yes. In other ways I wish I could be more like them. I tend to be a pack-rat and my mother was NOT.

36. The relationship between Mason and Jenna is so volatile at this point. What did you think of her attack on him and the sexy scuffle that followed? Was Mason a little too rough with her?
It was bound to happen. Wasn’t too rough for me. ☺

37. Finally some honesty between our hero and heroine! Do you think there are better days ahead for them?
Let’s hope! Of course, Mason may get even more protective.
