I finished Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles the other day, and now I'm reading This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War by Drew Gilpin Faust. So far, it's a very interesting read.

On the plus side, I picked up Life of Pi and The Paris Wife at my indie bookstore today and talked to them about the possibility of working there!

I just finished 'Pop goes the Weasel' by James Patterson, I have always wanted to read all the Alex Cross novels ever since I saw the movie 'Along came a Spider' with Morgan Freeman years ago, I've just gotten around to tracking down all the books, glad I started at the beginning, definitely worth the wait!

I'm still working on The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I started it just before first term started and have had practically no time to read it. The quality of the book has nothing to do with why it is taking me so long to get through it. On the contrary I'm absolutely loving the book. It is both a modern tale and historical one, which are some of my favourites. It is full of mystery, and just when I think I've figured something out there is a new twist in the story. It also has a fairy tale/story teller aspect which is my favourite part of this book. I love stories. So far I would definitely recommend it.

Just started "War and Peace," which is actually REALLy good, once you get about 100 pages in and ignore the really confusing russian names. as long as you try not to follow everything, it works well!
Also reading "Conspirata" by Robert Harris about Cicero and the Cataline conspiracy, but it is a novel and moves really quickly and captures a lot of interest. I highly recommend both!

I just finished Kafka's The Metamorphosis, which was great! It's the first time in a while that I've read a Russian novel (I loved reading them in high school) and I think I can now say that the fire's been successfully lit again. Next up, Gogol! :)

I'm also reading Farewell, My Lovely by Raymond Chandler, which is taking me forever. I like it well enough, but crime novels have never really been my thing. I'm just determined to get through a Raymond Chandler novel, just to say I've read him.

And I'm finishing up The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey, another good but slow read.

What I really need after all these slow books is a light, fluffy read that I can get through in a couple days.

Ahhhh! I read The Forgotten Garden last year and absolutely adored it. You're going to love it!



I'm about to finish The Gospel According to Harry Potter, which relates a lot of the plot points and details of the Harry Potter series to biblical stories and teachings. It's pretty cool to see how everything connects!



...and I'm just starting A Hope in the Unseen, a nonfiction book about a boy from an inner-city high school in D.C. that ends up at Brown. My boss gave it to me to read, and she told me it mostly documents his first year at Brown, which I can definitely relate to since I'm in my first year at my school!

I just finished Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. Such a thriller. Very twisted, but was so well written that I couldn't put it down. Two thumbs up!

The last book I read was Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein.
It was a really good read. I definitely recommend it. It's one of those books you could read a second time and even MORE things will make sense!

Just finished reading The House at Midnight by Lucie Whitehouse and I have to say I was quite disappointed with it. I was hopping for a much more interesting mystery and found that I also didn't really enjoy her style of writing. Overall a pretty boring read, rushed through most of it just so I could start something new.

Now I'm reading Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare which I'm sure like all her other books I've read I will enjoy.

I am reading Dragonfly in Amber I loved Outlander. I thought it was going to take me a while to get through the book since it is 800 pages and I have a 2 year old. Nope I was staying up till 3 am reading and finished the first book in a week. They are both very good, though I am only half way through book 2.

This is obviously late (I just discovered this group and I'm browsing the posts), but I loved A Separate Peace. I read it as a freshman in high school as part of my required reading and actually enjoyed it which I wasn't expecting. Then again, unlike a lot of other people, I tend to love the quieter stories where nothing extraordinary really occurs.

So far it seems like the two books are from totally different worlds - which makes sense because of how much time went by between their publications, and also in the story itself.

I am currently reading three things which seems like a lot to me but looking at other peoples stacks I must admit is a bit minimal.

I think i am going to make a random friend request to Lianne since I really love everything they have listed and I can't walk away from someone who reads Doctor Who.

Back to my list now. For the second time, I am trying to read The Round House and am really enjoying it. It is reminding me of The Cider House Rules though that is probably due to the fact that they both seem to be books about young characters growing up through something.

I am also reading the manga Princess Jellyfish, Tome 1 for the second time. This time around I am reading it in Japanese. Another book is unlisted on GR since it isn't a novel or anything like that. It's also for Japanese studies though.

This book may not have been a good time to familiarize myself with a new (to me, at least) companion since I ended up dreading the book. It's such a short thing but I found myself trying not to finish it until I refused to not drop a DW book.
