Oh my gosh, yes. I could have finished it and returned it to the library ages ago, but I love it so much that I want to keep it for as long as I possibly can!

(P.S. Happy new year, everyone!)

Samantha Leighanne (sleighanne) I finished The Stand last week, it took me 6 months to finish it and then started Outlanderand finished it in less than a week. I completely LOVED it.

And now my objective is to finish The Pillars of the Earth and The Bone Woman: A Forensic Anthropologist's Search for Truth in the Mass Graves of Rwanda, Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosovo before next Monday when the semester begins!

message 2953: by Leanna (new)

Leanna Keist I just got The Hunger Games for Christmas and am SO excited to start it. But I am trying to wait until I finish a book that my friend loaned me at the end of August.

So, currently I am reading I Capture the Castle and am just about halfway finished with it and loving it. Right before Christmas I finished Pretties, the second book in Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series. It was even better than Uglies and I'm pretty excited to read the next two in the series.

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I finished Revolution a few days ago and I'm having so much trouble deciding what to read next!

message 2955: by Kayla (new)

Kayla | 604 comments I am currently reading The Secret Garden, PS, I Love You, and The Lost Language of Cranes and I am rereading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I'm hoping to finish them all before I have to go back to school in a week.

Jacqueline Quackenbush Paula wrote: "I just finished The Reader, it was good better than the movie I think. And I'll go on my reading of A Brief History of Time, it has taken my over a month to finish"

I really enjoyed The Reader; I thought the movie was really good too but the book is almost always better than its movie adaptation.

How are you liking A Brief History? I love reading science books but havent picked up Hawking yet. I've currently been trudging through Unweaving the Rainbow which isn't my favorite so far and has been taking quite sometime. In the mean time I just finished Slapstick and am now starting A Clockwork Orange.

I finished The Officers' Club and Flirt Club over the weekend. Since I am all caught up on my giveaways, those I have received anyways, I decided to start on my Christmas gifts. I am now reading City of Bones.

Nikki S.Leighanne wrote: "I finished The Stand last week, it took me 6 months to finish it and then started Outlanderand finished it in less than a week. I completely LOVED it."

What kind of a book is 'Outlander'? Adventure/historial/romance? It looks interesting, but if it's too romance heavy I probably wouldn't like it.

message 2959: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments So glad you enjoyed the Hunger Games! I'm trying to force my boyfriend to read it, but he's not really cooperating..

I just finished Unearthly and it was SOO good! I can't believe the next book isn't scheduled until 2012!

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Now I just finished Catching Fire!! I flew through it in 2 days! :) I'm already on Mockingjay.

message 2962: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I put aside The Mists of Avalon for now, I don't really want to start something that big right now. I am about halfway through Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (and actually loving it!) and am about to start A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail.

message 2964: by Kemi (new)

Kemi I just finished reading:
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (I was teary-eyed through the entire thing and cried for the last few chapters)
Juno & Juliet (I didn't really like it. The characters were very random)

Currently I am reading:
for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf
Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

Nikki I finished The Man in the Iron Mask, it wasn't bad but definitely a disappointment since I like the film version so much and had expected more.

I finished City of Bones last night and am about to start City of Ashes this morning (if I get any time, crazy season is here again at work). I really liked City of Bones, but enjoyed Clockwork Angel better. Has anyone else read both? What do you think?

Liz Tami wrote: "I finished City of Bones last night and am about to start City of Ashes this morning (if I get any time, crazy season is here again at work). I really liked City of Bones, but enjoyed Clockwork Ang..."

I've heard others say they liked Clockwork Angel better as well. I plan on reading it soon.

I personally liked the 2nd & 3rd books better than City of Bones. They're predictable, but faster paced & more exciting. I hope you like them!

message 2971: by Liz (new)

Liz I just finished reading Thirteen Reasons Why last night - very interesting & thought-provoking book.

I plan to start Unearthly today.

message 2972: by ~*I love Tea*~ (new)

~*I love Tea*~ | 124 comments I am about to read I am number four

I can't wait I ordered it last year and it still hasn't arrived. I hope it hurries up because when school starts I have like no time - we have to read a novel a week for my course so there's no spare time.

message 2973: by Liz (new)

Liz Annabel ~*I love Tea*~ wrote: "I am about to read I am number four..."

I've been wanting to read that one, especially with the movie coming out!

message 2974: by Leanna (new)

Leanna Keist I just finished I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and absolutely LOVED it! It was so good. I'm ready to start The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and am SO excited! I had to make myself write my ICTC review and update my threads first, though. :)

message 2975: by Anika (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments I'm reading a new book each week for my YA lit class. This week is To Kill A Mockingbird. It's way better than I remember it.

Daisy | 686 comments Jane wrote: "Just finished Unearthly. Not sure what I'm going to read next."

What did you think of it?

I'm currently reading Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire and though I never really read anything that's not fiction, I'm really enjoying it.

message 2977: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I finished Brideshead Revisited Thursday night and really enjoyed it. It was so nicely British! I've been reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest since then and am enjoying it quite a bit. The narrator kind of reminds me of an ex for some odd reason. I've fallen behind on the War and Peace readalong. Maybe I'll catch up, maybe I won't.

You'll have to let me know how you like it. I bought that book a couple of years ago and have yet to read it.

message 2980: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) Right now I'm reading Great House and really enjoying it! It's making me want to reread The History of Love. Krauss' writing style is so beautiful!

message 2981: by Heather (new)

Heather Lewis | 6 comments I just finished reading City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. I loved it and I'm looking forward to reading the third one soon. Right now I am reading Duma Key by Stephen King.

message 2982: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey I just finished Just Listen. I think I'm going to start either Scar Tissue or something else. Not sure.

message 2983: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker OK. I had to get in some Southern gothic, so I started Carson McCuller's The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, but I might switch to Faulkner or some of Eudora Welty's short stories.

Kayla | 604 comments Lori wrote: "OK. I had to get in some Southern gothic, so I started Carson McCuller's The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, but I might switch to Faulkner or some of Eudora Welty's short stories."

Lori, The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter is one of my favorite books! I hope you enjoy it. Though, if you decide to go with Faulkner, that's a great choice too-I love him (Light in August is my favorite by him, so far). Never read Welty.

message 2985: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Kayla, I've read a bit of Faulkner before. I've never read anything by McCuller or Welty. The only reason I lean toward Welty is short stories are good once class starts. Thanks for the suggestions and the good words about McCuller.

I had a marathon reading weekend. I finished City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare, started and finsihed City of Glass by Cassandra Clare, and started and finished I Toss Till Dawn by Ben Hewitt.

I really enjoyed The Mortal Instruments books, though I liked Clockwork Angel (book 1 of The Infernal Devices) better.

I Toss Till Dawn was a Goodreads Giveaways win. Chase is 18 and a recent high school graduate, that decides taking a crosscountry road trip will help him find meaning to life. I can't relate, I never had the feeling of nothingness, but it was a good story.

message 2987: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I finished Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire today, I really enjoyed learning more about her, the movie (based on the book) made me curious.

Lori - as I said, I really enjoyed it, it's probably the only non-fiction book I've read by choice in over 10 years since it's not really my thing, but the writing is really good and engaging. I won't pretend I remember everything going on politically throughout the book, it was a huge factor in Georgiana's life. Life in 18th century England was a bit different than I expected, a lot of unfaithful husbands and wives.
Anyway, hope you enjoy!

message 2988: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Daisy, I initially bought the book because of the movie (which I haven't seen because I haven't read it yet). I'll have to try to read that sometime soon. One of my goals is to read 12 biographies this year.

message 2989: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (Charlotte_Cook) | 20 comments I just finished the first book of the Sookie Stackhouse series; I'm now about to start the second. Once I've finished that I'm going to read Catching Fire. :)

Eudora Welty's short stories are really interesting, but her novels are the same thing, just longer and therefore more complicated. You should try Flannery O'Connor: she's my absolute favorite Southern writer, and her style is right in line with Faulkner's and Welty's.

message 2993: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments I am currently reading Ralph Waldo Emerson's poems and essays for one of my classes. I just finished his essay Nature, and I'm beginning to think that he was highly delusional, if not certifiably insane. I am not looking forward to the next week or so of reading his work.

message 2994: by Leanna (new)

Leanna Keist Just finished The Hunger Games...ah-mazing. I absolutely loved it...so much more brutal than I imagined.

Tomorrow I will probably start on "Specials" by Scott Westerfeld, but then again classes start tomorrow, so sadly my YA binge might have to come to a halt in favor of Shakespeare and 17th Century poetry. :/

message 2995: by Anika (last edited Jan 11, 2011 09:58PM) (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments Emily- I think its so funny that people quote Emerson all the time without actually understanding what he was saying. I have to agree with you on this one! On the surface he appears to be pretty inspirational, but if you actually think about what he is saying, you realize that his ideas are rather "delusional." I have to admit that I agree with some of what he has to say; overall, however, he was pretty out there! And his poems do not do much for me. Good luck with your studies!

message 2996: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Just finished her last book in the series, Mockingjay!! I loved all 3 of the books, but I am so sad it's over.

message 2997: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Amy, Thanks for the recommendation. One of my friends has the collected works of O'Connor. Right now I'm floundering about finding a book to stick with. I have 6 on my coffee table that I'm going to flip through. Hopefully one of them will capture me and not let go until the end.

I've read both series. Personally I enjoyed the City of Bones series more, but that may be because the series is "finished" (more books are coming out now but it was finished). I also enjoyed Clockwork Angel and am looking forward to the second book in the series. Keep reading City of Ashes and City of Glass, they're page turners that I really enjoyed.

message 2999: by Eden (new)

Eden (gardenofedee) I just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire and I've started Water for Elephants.

Next on my list are Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and to finally finish Eat, Pray, Love
