M Just read the first and second of the Hunger Game series since we are reading the third for September. Indeed the popularity of the series is not unfounded.

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments I just finished Persuasion, and it was wonderful. I'll have a real review up in a few days, but for now I just want to recommend it to everyone. Go read it!

message 2553: by Anika (new)

Anika (anlynn) | 106 comments Persuasion is amazing! I second your recommendation. I'm super excited because I get to read it this quarter in one of my English classes!

Kelly A. | 499 comments I am currently slogging my way through The Secret Life of Bees. Why is this such a difficult book for me?!?!

message 2555: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments Kelly, I'm sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble with The Secret Life of Bees. I really enjoyed that book, though if I recall correctly, it did take me a while to get into it. I encourage you to keep reading, because I think it's a really good book, but maybe you just need to take a break or mix it up and read a different kind of book at the same time...

I finished Frankenstein: Dead and Alive by Dean Koontz. Great series.

Started Hunger Games for reread before Mockingjay comes out. Would probably had it finished too, but decided to go to the lake instead yesterday.

message 2557: by Julia (new)

Julia (bambbles) | 43 comments I just finished The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester at America's Holiest University. It was a really interesting memoir. He did a really good job of keeping things openminded. A interesting read.

It's strange because I'm really liking the story, it's just a challenge for me to actually want to pick it up and read it.

I am also reading The Trophy Bride's Tale, but it's not thrilling me either. I need a good book, dang it!

message 2559: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I just finished The Study Train: Volume 1 - Reunion of the Untouchables and I wanted very much to like it, but I really didn't.
I'm gonna start The Fool's Girl later tonight, I really hope it's better than The Study Train.

message 2560: by Laura (new)

Laura (thatlibrarianlady) Just finished Rebel Angels from the Gemma Doyle series. I have to admit I've been a bit impressed by this series. I didn't expect much and it's been surprisingly good.

Finished Hunger Games reread and started Catching Fire reread last night. Off to get Mockingjay, but maybe I should wait until my reread is finished or I may be tempted to just jump in.

message 2562: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginajellybean) I just finished Mennyms Under Siege by Sylvia Waugh, which is one of the best young books ever! I missed out when I was at school but my boyfriend loved them and I'm making up for lost time :)

I've moved onto Cloud Atlas for the hundredth time, it's easily one of my favourite books ever and a nice one to end the summer on!

message 2563: by Laura (new)

Laura (thatlibrarianlady) I just started Kafka on the Shore and I'm really loving it!

message 2564: by Jess (new)

message 2569: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading Living Dead in Dallas and I'm enjoying it. I love the books more than the show.

I want to read Mockingjay so bad, but I have to wait
:(

message 2570: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments Everyone's reading Mockingjay, I feel so behind. I haven't even started the series, but I think it's moving up on my TBR list.

Just finished The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. It was absolutely amazing. Now I'm moving on the the millions of other books lying about waiting to be read.

message 2571: by Sonja (new)

Sonja (crvena_sonja) | 78 comments I've only read The Hunger Games so I'm totally out of the loop on Mockingjay. I'm reading Monstrous Regiment, Terry Pratchett's take on women in the military. It's hilarious and I totally recommend it...

message 2572: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments Good to know I'm not the only one.

...And now I have another book to add to my TBR pile. Thanks...

message 2573: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Ditto on what Rayna said. I added Monstrous Regiment to my reading list as well.

message 2574: by Sonja (new)

Sonja (crvena_sonja) | 78 comments Sorry ladies but its still worth it... Enjoy!

message 2575: by Laura (new)

Laura (thatlibrarianlady) Just finished You Suck: A Love Story. Christopher Moore is so hilarious!

message 2576: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) Haha, I can't even reading Mockingjay until it comes out in paperback. Hardcovers are waaaaay too expensive for my miniscule budget, so the only book of the trilogy I own is Hunger Games. I think I read that Catching Fire comes out in paperback in a couple of weeks, though, so I might finally give in and read the first two once I have Catching Fire.

message 2577: by Laura (new)

Laura (thatlibrarianlady) The Hunger Games hardcovers are not too bad actually. I bought my copy of Mockingjay for $15 at Barnes & Noble.

message 2578: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I went through an awful reading drought. I read The Moon Is Down yesterday afternoon. This morning I picked up Gonzo: The Life of Hunter S. Thompson and it's wonderful! I hope that I'm able to stick with it and finish in time to review it next week for the blog.

message 2579: by Dey (new)

Dey (dey_s) I just finished Shadowland by Alyson Noël
And now I'm reading Rex Angelorum (in spanish) by Eduardo Verdumen x)

Caity (adivineeternity) Laura Ashlee wrote: "The Hunger Games hardcovers are not too bad actually. I bought my copy of Mockingjay for $15 at Barnes & Noble."

I have no income right now because nobody will hire me. $15 is FAR too much for a single book.

message 2581: by D (new)

D Super saver shipping actually came at a pretty quick pace--add me to the list of people reading Mockingjay!

message 2582: by Emily (new)

Emily Just finished The HelpI loved it!! Would recommend it for a group read. Anyone else read it?

Have you seen the movie?? Have NEVER cried so hard IN MY LIFE cried for the entire second half of the movie and then about half an hour after it ended. So sad!

message 2584: by Melissa (last edited Aug 26, 2010 12:09PM) (new)

Melissa | 279 comments Emily, I listened to it and LOVED it. I didn't want the book to end. It is one the top of my list and I can't wait until it come out in trade paperback in January. I am glad that you liked it and I second your recommendation for it to be a group read!!

I am about to start Still Alice

message 2585: by Kelly A. (last edited Aug 26, 2010 12:23PM) (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Caity, from what I see on Amazon, it's about $9 for a hardcover. I don't know if that's any better for you. http://www.amazon.com/Mockingjay-Fina...

I am reading Cleopatra: A Life, which is pretty interesting, and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales for my physiological psychology class. Yay for required reading that I enjoy!

Then you have to figure in shipping, which drives up the cost, and the fact that I am still broke and unemployed. I have to buy my books at the used bookstore for $2, as that's about all I can afford when I can afford books.

message 2587: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Emily and Melissa- I loved The Help!

message 2588: by Jess (new)

Jess Mockingjay was selling for $9 at Borders, and I picked mine up at Kroger's for $13.49. Just sold it to Half Price Books, though.

Right now I'm reading Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie. I forgot how much I liked classic mysteries like this one!

message 2589: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I finished Mockingjay, it was amazing! I don't know what to read after this.. I'm reluctant to start anything cause I always like the book after one I completely got absorbed in (like this one) less.

message 2590: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I'm picking up Spy Glass today and plan to start on that. So excited!

I finished Mockingjay last night. Some parts could have been better, but overall I really liked it. I am really glad I reread the first two before I started though. Kind of depressing that the series is over too. What to start on next?

message 2592: by Heather (last edited Aug 27, 2010 10:02AM) (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I finished East of Eden a couple of days ago and since then have had trouble getting into my next book (Hotel Du Lac). It's very slow moving so far.

Need some help! I am looking to fill in my list for my 500+ and 1000+ challenges.

I need books over 1000 pages that title starts with K, N, O, P, Q, T, V, X, Y, Z. The and A can be dropped off the front of the title to get to these letters.

I also may not be able to find copies of some of the others I have down, so I may need more in the future. Have any of you read a great (I will even settle for good) book that would fit?

message 2594: by Daisy (last edited Aug 27, 2010 01:42PM) (new)

Daisy | 686 comments The Pillars of the Earth is 1000+ and I LOVED it.
That's the only one I can come up with..

message 2595: by Merc (last edited Aug 27, 2010 10:44PM) (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) I am currently reading Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Murakami Haruki. So far, it's good.

Though, I am only 12 pages into the book! Haha

message 2596: by Jess (new)

Jess I'm a couple of chapters into Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen, which is fantastic so far!

message 2597: by Kaion (new)

Kaion (kaionvin) Kelly wrote: "Caity, from what I see on Amazon, it's about $9 for a hardcover. I don't know if that's any better for you. http://www.amazon.com/Mockingjay-Fina......"

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat is awesome, Kelly! (AND when I went to Germany it appeared to be assigned reading there, too!)

message 2598: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (amazingact21) Jess- I have been on reserve for that book at the library for a few weeks now. It sounds so interesting! I'd love to hear to how what you thought of it when you finish it.

message 2599: by Jess (new)

Jess Alicia, it's very well written and humorous so far. I'll definitely keep you posted!

message 2600: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I'm about 165 pages into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and so far I'm not wowed. Blomkvist is a boring character, Lisbeth is really interesting but there's like a total of 15 pages about her. I'm going to finish it though, I want to know how it ends.
