I just finished rereading Jemima J and now I'm not sure what to read. I have Candide which is short and I've been meaning to read it for a while so that should be a good direction to go in...
Thanks Sarah, One of my friends mentioned Atlas Shrugged and the Fountainhead as being his all time favorite books. So I had to try. I will be waiting some before I try Fountainhead.
Richard, how are you liking The Host? I enjoyed it, but it seems I am one of the few of my friends that did. I wish Stephenie would write the others for the series instead of just short novellas to correspond with the Twilight movies.
Kelly, how is the Historian? I liked the Swan Thieves but most reviews say the Historian is so much better. I have finished the first of the James Potters. Not nearly as good as Harry's, but fun and interesting all the same. I think I have the second and third downloaded too, but haven’t started them yet.

I forgot to post what I actually started and finished. :) This weekend, I started and finished Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer by John Grisham, started and finished Blockade Billy by Stephen King and started and almost finished Frankenstein by Dean Koontz.
I have been doing a lot of reading these past few weeks... in the past week alone I've read The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963, The Breadwinner, My Brother Sam Is Dead, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Alanna: The First Adventure, and The Wind in the Willows. I'm about a quarter through A Wrinkle in Time, which I started this morning. Summer courses!
I LOVED Alanna: The First Adventure—that entire series, and the Immortals too—when I was younger. I really need to reread them. Amazing books.
Tami, I'm only halfway through, so far it's pretty good, but it's not an easy or quick read...you kind of have to work at this. I don't know, I'll have a better answer when I'm closer to being finished!
I just finished reading Xenocide by Orson Scott Card. I loooove the Ender's Series. Who else here likes them? I'm also looking for a new good book.. any suggestions?
I want to read the rest of Orson Scott Card's books. I loved the first one. I think he grew up in my town because he mentioned a lake that was down the road from my house, which I thought was cool. Made imagining the environment easier haha.
That's so cool! lol Ender's Game was my favorite until I read Speaker for the Dead. But they're both very different so it's hard to chose. You should read the rest of the series!
Anna wrote: "I've just finished 1984 by George Orwell. Holy shit...."Yeah, seriously. I've read that book like 10 times now. It never stops being awesome.
Her Fearful Symmetry, though I fear I won't finish because it is already overdue at the library and there is a late fee of $1 per day. And it is checked out all over town and I don't really have the budget to buy it myself.
I just started on the last Percy Jackson book,The Last Olympian. I love this series, I don't want it to end!I also just started Edward Rutherfurd's book New York, but I'm not really into it yet.
Margaret, he just started a new one, the first in the series is The Red Pyramid. He's also coming out with another Camp Half-Blood series, I think sometime later this year.
I'm currently readingUnhooked which is about hook-up culture and young women. It's actually really interesting because I can relate to some of the themes of how girls are becoming more resistant to the idea of emotionally committed relationships and flock more to purely sexual relationships through my life and the lives of the people I know.
I justed finished reading Fanny: Being the True History of the Adventures of Fanny Hackabout-Jones by Erica Jong. It was really, really neat. I didn't have any idea that I would like it as much as I did. It was hysterical, engaging, dramatic, erotic, and shocking all in one go. I definitely shouted aloud things like "No way!" And "Oh my gosh!" at least ten times throughout the reading. This book is distinct from so many others that I've read and I would really recommend it.
I just finished The Pillars of the Earth and I LOVED this book! It wasn't slow at all, it only took me 11 days to read because it's just so big! I'm not a big fan of the church or interested in the mechanisms of building, but this is such an epic tale of family, love, loyalty and just good people (and of course the villains we all need) that it blew me away. I was a bit scared of the sheer size of it to start, but it was just amazing and I would recommend it to anyone, especially those of you who enjoy historical romance.
I'm taking a break from college-related research on Jane Austen and pop culture by reading a terribly cheesy (in a light and fun way) True Love (and Other Lies) by Whitney Gaskell. It's great reading when you need a break from the serious stuff ;)
I'm on book #6 of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. I've also decided to read some of the classics that I've just never gotten around to, starting with Little Women. I'm about halfway done with it. ^^
I recently started Brave New World, #2 in the classic sci-fi/dystopian books I'm planning to read. Maybe I should put 1984 on the list too.I'm really enjoying it so far. I really like books with views of the future and this definitely has a very interesting one.
I finally finished "Spirit Bound" by Richelle Mead. Continuing with "Burned" by PC Cast and "Queste" by Angie Sage.
I finished The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder: A Novel yesterday. It was definitely a nice, easy vacation read.
I finished Hannah's List. Interesting but super predictable.
Started One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Only on page 2 or something though, had to stop to come to work.

I finished A Morbid Taste for Bones yesterday, which was fantastic! I also found an apartment in the city I'm moving to, so I need to read the books on my shelves...gotta figure out what's next, like Jamie!

Makes me want to move out of my house. But alas, I don't make enough money so I must live for free at home! lol
Haha, I understand. If I were staying here in Rochester, I'd definitely be either living at home or sharing an apartment with my best friend. But since I'm moving, I had to find a place!I'm thinking of starting either A Wretched Man: A Novel of Paul the Apostle or The Red Tent. It seems like a good day to work on some religio-historical fiction!
Jess, I loved The Red Tent..I'm not much for religious books, but I tend to think of this one as more historical anyways. It's really good, I think you'd like it!I just finished The Historian. It was good. Loooonnnggg but good. I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything though.
Just finished A Great and Terrible Beauty and started Neverwhere. I already love Neil Gaiman. He has a wonderful sense of humor.
Currently reading: KitchenI've finished the first novella, Kitchen, and loved it. I'm about to start the second novella, Moonlight Shadow.
This is the first book I'm reading for my Creative Women Challenge!
Finished The Book Thief. LOVED IT.Not sure what I'm going to start next. Maybe my Harry Potter reread.
Just finished The Thief earlier tonight. It was fabulous. Not sure what I'm going to start next... lol
I finished The Thirteenth Tale a few days ago, and now I'm reading Catching Fire! The Thirteenth Tale was...kind of odd. Not bad, but odd. I can't even decide if I want to review it for the blog because I don't know what to say about it!
I just finished Kitchen. I liked it a lot. I'll put up a real review tomorrow when I'm not so tired. It's the first book I've finished for my Creative Women Challenge!Update: review is up!
I'm sort of bouncing around among a few things at the moment: Fifth Avenue, 5:00 AM: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and The Dawn of the Modern Woman, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Out of Africa and I'll probably start Atlas Shrugged, which I'm supposed to read with some friends. Hopefully I'll settle on two of them so I can actually finish a few more books.
Finished The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.. to be honest, I'm not sure why so many people loved it so much. I mean it was good, but dragged until the last 100 pages....still reading The Moonstone, also starting The White Tiger
Hmmm. How is it reading multiple books at once? I always tend to focus on one book at a time, even though I would like to read all my books at once haha.
I finished One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest yesterday. What a fun book. Started Frankenstein (the original) and am almost finished with it. Not sure what to start next.

Really good so far, only about 3/4's of the way through. I am having my preconceived stereotypes of the monster and the maker being totally blown to pieces. :) Nothing that I thought the story was is actually what it was.
Oooh, I'm glad that you're enjoying Frankenstein, Tami! I'm thinking about reading it for the spring/summer challenge. I've actually never read the original.I'm currently reading RW Holmen's A Wretched Man: A Novel of Paul the Apostle, which is a historical fiction book about early Christianity. Really, really interesting so far!
