What Did You Finish Reading/What Are You Currently Reading?
I just got done reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult for fun & Noli Me Tangere by Jose Rizal for school. Nineteen Minutes was really good! Noli Me Tangere was definitely a tough read... a little confusing and boring in parts.I am starting The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath right now, then I'm going to read Santaland Diaries/Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris before Christmas. Then I have a holiday tradition to read a book in the Chronicles of Narnia series on and around Christmas.. so I'll be reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. (second time around!)
Jamie--I will definitely let you know! I'm hoping it'll turn out good! I've heard it's a nice, heartwarming story, which is definitely what I'm in the mood for. Sarah--how soon are you done with finals? And Anne of Green Gables is an excellent book for that! :)
December 22nd is my last. With any luck I'll be home late that night..... LOL I can't wait for my hot chocolate and good book <3 <3

I've been out of the reading scene the last couple of months because of my huge heaping pile of Biology and French homework but I've started picking up books again recently to keep me sane. I'm on a bit of a victorian romance kick, which is out of character for me. I read Pride and Prejudice and loved it! After that I moved on to Jane Eyre and I honestly think it might be one of my favorite books now; I really identified a lot with her character and despite its legnth I was able to finish it very quickly.
And, come on, Mr Rochester seems totaly hot, which helps ;)
I've just started Wuthering Heights but am moving through it slower than the other two because upcoming finals and such. I hope I like it half as much as Jane Eyre :D

I just finished The Girl Who Played with Fire which I thought was good, although I liked the first book of the series better. I'm excited for third installment to come out in a few months!I'm also reading Little Women. I think I read it once when I was younger but I don't remember much. I thought Christmas time would be a good time of year to read it.

I'm a much much bigger fan of Wuthering Heights than Jane Eyre.
Kallie I loved the Book Thief! Probably my favorite book that I read this year. You'll have to tell us what you think of it!
I just finished The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, Version 2.0 and loved it. I was kinda in a christmas light fluffy mood but didn't want anything cookie cutter and this fit the bill perfectly. I had tried reading Moore several years ago but I think it is time I gave him another chance
Sarah: I absolutely loved Wuthering Heights! I haven't found anything that's beat it as far as classics go.

Agreed, Sarah.I just finished Saturday by Ian McEwan. It wasn't as good as I hoped it would be.
Now, I beginning The Catcher in the Rye. Reading everyone's posts about it, I can't wait to begin it. Everyone seems to love it, so I have high hopes for it.
No, but it is on my to-read list. I've heard it's one of his best, and I wish I had picked that one up instead of Saturday.
It's really short, you could probably read it in a day or so. But it's so deep and makes you think so hard it gives you the chills. LOL
I requested a bunch of ya books from my library and they all just came in so I'll be reading them soon. I don't read a lot of ya but I thought it would be nice after my finals lol! and I've been wanting to read these for a while! -The Uglies Series
-The Hunger Games
-The Maze Runner
I finally finished The Unbearable lightness of being, which I enjoyed it a lot. I'm starting The Child in Time by Ian McEwan, now.Alicia how was On Chesil Beach? I really like McEwan's books, so I'm curious, is it as good as his other novels?
I'm reading Jostein Gaarder's The Christmas Mystery now, and since it's sort of like a literary Advent calendar I'm now reading a chapter a day (since I caught up to the current date). It's pretty interesting so far, I like it. I'm also reading Wally Lamb's Wishin' and Hopin'.
I'm reading Carrie, which a friend lent me. Then I'll fiiiiiinally finish One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
I finished reading Breakfast at Tiffany's last night. It was beautifully written. I'm still having a hard time seeing anyone other than Audrey Hepburn as Holly. And now onto The Cheese Monkeys, a special gift I received.

Now I'm on to Me Talk Pretty One Day
Now I'm on to Me Talk Pretty One Day
Matthew, I was also quite impressed with Gone With the Wind. Honestly I couldn't stand Scarlett, but everything else made up for her.
I just finished A Christmas Carol and Other Christmas Writings and I'm currently reading The Double Bind

Just finished Me Talk Pretty One Day and really liked it! I'm glad that I finally picked it up. I am now on to The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane which a friend gave me to borrow since I made her read The Bell Jar.

I just began Handle with Care byJodi Picoult. I've been trying to sludge through all 17 of her novels, but with the same basic story structures, I have to take long breaks in between each read.
I just started reading Uglies. It's one of the books my Secret Santa gave me. :) I'm loving it so far, really interesting!
Can anyone suggest a good book that is appropriate for a ten year old? I guess Twilight is all the craze for that age group, and my little cousin, Baylie really wants to read vampire books. However, Twilight is too old for her. She's also really into the Animorph books. (Which totally cracks me up because those were popular when I was her age).

If you're not worried about books that have a bit more violence, Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' books are good too.

I love Peter and the Starcatchers! Did you read the latest book? I bought to first one for my cousin last year.
Get ready for this... I asked for Peter and the Sword of Mercy for Christmas. LOL I have read the first three. They're awesome. I can't wait.
Just finished Wuthering Heights and really enjoyed it :)Now I'm on Death With Interruptions by Jose Saramago.
The synopsis is really intriguing:
"On the first day of the new year, no one dies. This of course causes consternation among politicians, religious leaders, morticians, and doctors. Among the general public, on the other hand, there is initially celebration -— flags are hung out on balconies, people dance in the streets. They have achieved the great goal of humanity: eternal life.
Then reality hits home —- families are left to care for the permanently dying, life-insurance policies become meaningless, and funeral parlors are reduced to arranging burials for pet dogs, cats, hamsters, and parrots.
Death sits in her chilly apartment, where she lives alone with scythe and filing cabinets, and contemplates her experiment: What if no one ever died again? What if she, death with a small d,became human and were to fall in love?"
He has some oddities with punctuation that might bug me though, so we'll see.

Just gave up on A Prayer for Owen Meany (good book, but so slow!) and am now reading The Lovely Bones because I'm currently visiting my grandparents in middle of nowhere Florida and it was the only good book I could find in Wal-Mart (seriously, I haven't seen a single bookstore around here...). But it's great so far!
Well, it's Christmas Day and that means it's time for Holidays on Ice...especially apt because we're snowed in. But I don't have anything to make a martini with. I'll just have to settle for copious amounts of wine.
Wine is always good, Lori! And you can never go wrong with Holidays on Ice.I'm currently reading Sharpe's Rifles and really enjoying it. Its the first book of my SOLSTICE list that I'm doing with my boyfriend... because we're huge nerds.
Happy Holidays to all!
I literally just finished Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. LOVED IT. Almost 600 pages of epic fantasy, which would normally seem a bit daunting to a slow reader like myself, but I only started it on Christmas Eve and got sucked in very quickly. To be honest, I'm a bit exhilarated by it and I'm not sure what I will read next. My options are as follows:The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
The Girl in the Green Sweater (it's about the holocaust)
Church of Lies (it's about the FLDS and a girl who escaped it)
Any of the first ten or so books of the Redwall series
Whatever I start, I must finish before I leave on Wednesday morning.
I'm currently reading two books: Skipping Christmas by John Grisham, which is the book that was the basis for the movie Christmas with the Kranks, or whatever it was called. I like it so far--it's pretty funny, but right now it's dragging.
Poe's Children, which is an anthology of horror/sci fi short stories from the past decade compiled by Peter Straub. It's fascinating, although I'll admit, not all of the stories have been "my cup of tea." His goal in putting the anthology together was to prove that the horror genre is more than scary monsters, blood, gore, and cheesy covers, but rather is a legitimate literary genre. Thus far, he's done an excellent job at proving his point.
I finished City of Bones last night. The first half of it was slow for me, but I really enjoyed the reading the last part. For a young adult novel, it wasn't too bad. Now, I'm moving on to Slaughterhouse Five.
I just finished The Angel's Game, I loved it! I'm gonna watch Little Women before I decide what to read next, it was on TV a couple of days ago and I missed it, I'm so happy I have it on DVD :)
I finished The Tequila Worm the other night, and just started Bless Me, Ultima last night. Beautiful language in that one.
