I'm so proud of my progress on 1776, I'm almost 200 pages in! About 100 to go!

Anyone feel like a snail when reading a book? I can not seem to go any faster in reading Taken by Chris Jordan!
I am now currently readingTwo Moon Princess
Howl's moving castle
The hiding Place and
The sisterhood of the traveling pants
all at the same time

When I was younger, I would read entire books in a day, and now I feel accomplished if I can get through 20 pages in one sitting! Sad, I know :P
Finished the Twilight series yesterday, and I'm satisfied with how it ended. Now, I'm reading The Secret Life of Bees and I think I'm also going to start The BFG.
I just finished Katherine and I have a couple of books I'm reading right now. Normally I can't do this, but goodreads has made me read more than one book at a time, so long as they're not all novels (so I had a novel, a collection of short stories, a grammar book, and an account of the Buddha's life all on my currently-reading shelf for a while).
Just finished New Moon, which I enjoyed. Now I am waiting for Eclipse to come out on paperback. Now onto just a funny little book called The Gatecrasher. I've had it forever and just wanted something fun and simple.

I mean I got the first and second book, but then I found out you could listen to them. If you would rather have a copy though you could listen to them now and buy a copy later...
Nah it's ok! Thanks though!! I like to read them first, I am not a huge fan of listening to books! I always get distracted somehow!! Haha. Thanks for the thought!
Just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society... I wasn't sure if it was going to keep my interest, but I couldn't put it down!!! Its the kind of book that makes you sad when its over because you have to come to the reality that the characters are not actually real. One of my new favorites :)Now I'm on to Blindness by Jose Saramago
Janet wrote: "Nah it's ok! Thanks though!! I like to read them first, I am not a huge fan of listening to books! I always get distracted somehow!! Haha. Thanks for the thought!"oh yeah, I know what you mean, I also always get distracted when I'm listening to books, but for Twilight it was different. I was actually able to pay attention to Twilight. It was weird that way.
I FINALLY finished HP book 5. I can't believe it took me that long. On to book 6. Hopefully can finish before Sunday and the movie.
I am so behind for July. I have 3 different book club reads and still have 2 Harry Potters to read. :) May go into August.

I recently finished True At First Light A Fictional Memoir and Death du Jour. I thought that True at First Light was tedious, even for Hemingway. There was a lot of swahili, and Spanish all untranslated and then broken english and I think that made it harder. Loved Death Du Jour. I'm currently reading Skeletons at the Feast and Rebel Angels, and loving both of them.
I just finished the Time Machine by H.G. Wells. AMAZING, super short, and very good for the summer! I read mostly while waiting for/on the bus, so it's hard for me to follow long, drawn out books that use a lot of syruppy language. I need something quick and easily accessible and this is that! Like I said, great book and it ha done of the best endings I could think for it to have. I'm on a high of Time Machine, so if anyone wants to talk about it more, please message me! :D (I want to chat about it without ruining it for someone else!)
I just finished a rather lame book that I needed to read for my book store job. Although the story was interesting the writing was immature. Now I'm about to start The Count of Monte Cristo.
I recently finished Daniel Silva's The Messenger, which was an interesting read (though I still enjoyed Moscow Rules a lot more). I've started reading Aleksandar Hemon's The Lazarus Project, which is pretty interesting so far, and David Rotenberg's Shanghai, which is okay but something that should be read in a quieter place, lol.
I just finished The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Bernett. It was really good, I'd always watched the movie but I'm so glad I finally got around to reading the book.I'm still reading The Count of Monte Cristo and I'm enjoying it. But I'm searching for something else to read with it again as well, it makes it a lot more pleasing to know I can take a break with another book and then return.
Janet, thanks! I thought it was good, I definitely learned a lot since we didn't learn about the actual warfare in school, just the Congress stuff mostly. And I really liked how detailed he was with Washington's character, and Nathaniel Greene and Henry Knox. Those are people we don't learn too much about in school.
I finished The Count of Monte Cristo last week! Such an amazing book. I decided to take a break from longer, more time-consuming reads this weekend, since I was out of town. But luckily, train travel allowed me to read two books - Charlotte Connors' How Dolly Parton Saved My Life and Gwen Cooper's Homer's Odyssey. Now, returning to my regular scheduled reading, I'm getting back to Orhan Pamuk's Other Colors.
Just finished Skeletons at the Feast and loved it. Possibly one of the best WWII books I've read (at least recently). It is partially told from the perspective of a German family that could have been considered Nazi's which I found fascinating.
Jess, how did you like How Dolly Parton Saved My Life? I saw it at the store and thought it looked like something I might like.
Tahleen, I enjoyed it. I'm not sure where you stand on religion, but there are certainly some Christian undertones, but it does not make it a Christian book (as such). Some characters are deeply religious while others are not. I wouldn't say it's an overarching theme, though.I would suggest it as a quick library book read, unless you can "take it out" for free at B&N :)

How is Howl's Moving Castle? I saw the movie and loved it! The movie is by Hayao Miyazaki and I love all his movies... he also made a movie out of Castle In the Sky which I think is by the same person who wrote Howl's, yes?
I'm reading A Great and Terrible Beauty. I had to get it because of all the great things people have said about it.

so much and I didn't want it to end either!

Yes, The movie is based off of the book. I also like the movie, but it turns out that the book and the movie are actually pretty different from each other. And now I'm reading castle in the air the sequel to Howl's moving castle. Castle in the sky by Miyazaki is actually not based off of the book. In the movie a boy stumbles upon a girl who falls from the sky and they hide crystals from pirates and government agents, but the book Castle in the air by Diana Wynne Jones is about a boy named Abdullah who gets a magic carpet and dreams of being from another land, because his father is dissapointed in him.The other land is this castle in the sky. He teams up with a cranky genie, a carpet, a dishonest solider, and an opinionated black cat.
I just finished Orhan Pamuk's Other Colors, which I liked a lot. I think I'm going to start The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood next, for something a bit less political.

And then the third one in this trilogy is called House of Many Ways
I just read Something from the Nightside by Simon Green and I am trying to decide what to read next. I think I am going to switch it up and read something non-fiction.

Hmm..I haven't seen the movie but I plan on doing so. I'll have a better idea if it's worth it after I see the movie. But the book was really great in my opinion!
I am reading James and the Giant Peach , Im on a Rohld Dalh kick. I am also listening to the The Secret Speechby Tom Rob Smith. I am not enjoying it as much as Child 44, but I am hooked!
I finished Count of Monte Cristo yesterday so I figured I'd go with another short book for the time being. Exile - Kathryn Lasky. It's 14 in the Ga'Hoole series.
I just finished reading The Reader by Bernhard Schlink for my book club. The book was very thought-provoking. In fact, our book club loved it so much that we are going to watch the movie at our next meeting.I am currently reading Taltos by Anne Rice, which is the third book in the Mayfair witches trilogy. I am also currently reading The Beach House by Jane Green.

I started The Time Traveler's Wife yesterday and I absolutely love it so far! I read way more than I thought I had or would in such a short period of time. I'm thinking that it's going to be one of my favorites.
Finished the last HP and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas last night. Started The Secret Life of Bees.
I read a few pages of The Time Traveler's Wife in a bookshop the other day (hiding behind the shelves so the shopkeeper couldn't see) and I was thinking that when I finally get the chance to read it properly I'll probably really enjoy it.I've just finished Rashomon and seventeen other stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, and Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne... I'm watching the movie adaptations of both soon.

I would probably like it, I think.
Anyway, I just finished Back to the Garden The Story of Woodstock today. It was good, I'm really glad I read it because it was comprised mostly of interviews from people who were there -- performers, technical people, the guys who put it together, and audience members mostly -- but Fornatale isn't that great a writer. Lots of cliches and someone has to tell him not to use exclamation points so much. But I definitely learned a lot about the music and the event.
Now, on to [book:The Help|4667024.
Thanks to some convincing by people in this group, I'm reading Water for Elephants. I'm only on chapter 6, but it's really interesting so far. Thanks for the recommendation, ladies!
I just finished Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder and am about to begin Magic Study (the second) and I'm so excited! These books are so good! I'm listening to them as audiobooks.
I managed to finished Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (Wells) and Disgrace (Coetzee) today, thanks to a day off from work. I don't know what I'll start next - perhaps another Steinbeck book, or a library book.
I recently finished The Other Boleyn Girl, which was amazing! I definitely can't wait to read more of Philippa Gregory's work.I am currently reading Tess of the d'Urbervilles and 1984. They are both going rather slow, as Tess is not really that interesting yet, and I am reading 1984 online at work :)
I started Neither Here nor There Travels in Europe this morning to kick of my Bill Bryson readathon.
