TBR Mountain Decimation Challenge
Life style change has more to do with why are you eating than what. Weight Watchers is about portion control basically. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the most success has come from weight watchers combined with exercise (regularly). Last year, my 40+ (that's 20th birthday celebrated 20+ times) wife started running 5k races (for the first time in her life). I'm very proud. but also off topic. Sorry about that.
I'm not that great at eating well. I really wish I could find a system and stick with it.I am fairly good at working out. I hit the elliptical at least 3 times a week and I walk 20 - 30 minutes everyday.
I am very good at keeping hydrated. I'm always drinking water, tea, or Diet Pepsi...
Lady D! You need to drink more when it's hot like that out. We can't have you getting heat stroke on us!
I'm good at eating well... On weekdays. When I'm at work I'm busy, so my mind isn't on snacking. On the weekends I'm usually bad. Not necessarily bad food, just too much snacking and food in general. I wish I could eat bad food. I would kill for some pizza or a cheeseburger or some cheesy pasta or chili cheese fries... Mmmm.. And none of those healthier versions, I want the real deal baste that shit in butter versions... But the food guilt after I eat stuff like that is horrible, so I basically never eat it. I want to not have the guilt.. Just eat and not worry about it (I don't need to lose weight, I should indulge sometimes!)... But I can't. I obsess :/
I do keep water at work, and I was sipping it, but I think I underestimated how much water I needed to drink. I won't do that again! I learned my lesson! It's been so hot, it's crazy here!
That's where that whole balance thing comes into play. You have your pizza one day, and the next you eat fruit, a salad, and a sandwich, or something like that, then go back to your normal routine. I know from watching other people though, that can be easier said than done.
That's what I try to do.. I plan it out and plan on just not caring and eating whatever once in a while.. But then that day comes around, and I think about the guilt I'll feel, and I back out and try to keep it healthy instead. Sometimes I manage to eat badly, but I worry about it too much for my own good. I just want to let go sometimes! :P
I'm not that great at eating, but I did run every race as my wife's pace horse (pushing a double stroller with two kids init the whole way). I walk my dog a good 40 minutes or more a day. That helps. And even though I'm not diet conscious, I eat pretty healthy.
I try to have a good balance and work on lifestyle instead of dieting. I will let myself junk out sometimes, but your body will usually tell you no, when you get too much junk, or at least mine does. :)
try this. Keep a log of everything you eat, when (time of day) and why. Include a place to generally note "what's going on that day with you?" Simplly keeping a journal or log is the number one thing that people who succesfully loose/control weight have in common. After a while, look and see how many times you eat without being hungry or when it's not a regular meal? Why eat if you don't need to?

I love food.

You know that fasting isn't all it's cracked up to be. It promotes gorging yourself (or simply overeating) when you do eat. There are a lot of studies out there that show/believe the proved how "thin" isn't necessarily "healthy."
Sorry to get on my soap box. I have a 6 year old daughter who thinks "you're the best daddy." I worry about her and who she picks as her role models sometimes. Uh... I didn't actually mean me there, but I worry about that too. (:{)>
Me too, Dawn. I don't fast on purpose. I just forget to eat until I feel hungry (which is not what you should do). I just get distracted by other things. It's especially bad on the weekends, when I'm not a strict schedule. I am working on that.
and if you look anything like your profile picture, as do I, then.... What the hell are you worried about, you look great!
Haha, I think I'm just a control freak. I'm afraid if I let go of the handles even a little, I'll get out of control. So I'm a food Nazi, and it's not fun! :P
I made a change to my to-read shelf quota, based on the fact that I currently have 46 books on my decimation challenge shelf. I've decided to stick with the idea that that shelf must always have at least 10% of the number of books on my to-read shelf. This makes it line up a bit more while also giving me a little bit extra time.Format: Target - Actual = +/- credits
to-read Shelf: 450 - 448 = +2
tbr-in-current month shelf: 10 - 7 = +3
priority-fantasy-tbr shelf: 15 - 15 = 0

Eating is like an addiction to me. I love my food and think about eating a fair amount. I have cut down what I eat in the last seven months or so and have been rewarded.I've lost 30 pounds! W00T!
All I did, really was cut out most of the sugars I was eating, which at the time was a lot. I exercise too, as I mentioned before. So that helped.
I seem to have plateaued, however. I still have to watch what I eat, but that can be difficult when people are waving candy bars in my face...LOL
I just sneakily reduced my TBR by 12 after scrapping a whole series that I started and didn't love. Ruthlessness is the only way forward on this challenge ;)

That's awesome, Jason! Way to go!Denae, you scare me! You are just too precise with this for my peace of mind.
Rachel, that sounds like you are just cutting dead weight. Good for you.
Thanks guys! I needed to lose that weight. I had gained most of that 30lbs after I had quick smoking just over two years ago and was glad to get rid of it. LOL

I have a spreadsheet.
Besides, it was the only way I could think to participate, since I don't buy many books. I think it will end up being helpful from the standpoint of making me read stuff I wouldn't otherwise. Hooray for RNG!
Hi, my name is Chelsea, and I'm a book-a-holic. My TBR list is a whopping 654, but I only actually own 43 of these. My problem is that every book sounds fascinating, and I genuinely want to read every last one of them. Only recently have I discovered the concept of getting rid of the ones I didn't like, to trade in for...gasp, NEW books!

High, my name is Denae, and I'm a book addict.Had to up my challenge list to 61 to comply with my 10% rule. Part of my problem is I've been reading other stuff. Part of it is that I'm continually adding books. I just finished reading a book that resulted in me adding more than half a dozen books!

Nineteen Seventy-Seven by David Peace from 8/19/11 to 8/22/11 - 3 Stars

Danielle's Fantasy Aficionados TBR Mountain Decimation Challenge Goal: Read 300 books in 1.5 years, start date 7/27/11.
Read 3 older tbr pile books for 1 brand new tbr pile book.
Read 1 TBR pile owned book for every new book you buy, start date 8/31/11. Review reads count towards bought book quota.
Update: 8/4/11
Completed: 20/300 (owned books)
Credits Earned: Started 1:1 plan 8/1. Already bought 8 books. I read 2 books this month so far. So I need to read 6 books before I can buy any more books.
I'm not doing a very good job of getting through my books. I've completed 9 since I posted before, but my pile isn't getting any smaller. I still have just as many library books, and I added even more books to my TBR list. At this rate, I may have to live until I'm 200 to get through them all, and there's no guarantees even then.
I've knocked out quite a lot of books and short stories lately. The problem was that I hadn't even counted them. :-( Apparently I have a shit more books than I even thought I did. I have tons of ebooks I've bought from Fictionwise that I haven't even downloaded.
I have even more at smashwords and allromanceebooks.com that I haven't downloaded. Not to mention Carina Press.
And these don't include the ones I have on my Calibre at work and my Calibre at home that I just haven't read. I've added a new column so that I can check it that I've read it. o_O
I was doing okay for a while, but then the Borders closing sales completely wrecked any semblance of a goal or credit baseline I might've had. D:
I'm not doing very good at not buying books. I'm sort of at the 1:1 level, but probably a bit above that on the wrong side. I read a book, and then find a nifty one on Amazon.com on Kindle that I have to have. I'm not even including the free ones. I've downloaded a lot of free books lately.
My problem is I always start a new series and want to read on in it, but don't have the next book. It's too easy to head on over to the kindle store. LOL
That Kindle 1 click button is my downfall. And all the really cheap fantasy/horror fiction available on there!
Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "That Kindle 1 click button is my downfall. And all the really cheap fantasy/horror fiction available on there!"That button is the epitome of evil! LOL
Me + TBR Mountain Decimation Challenge = Epic FailI started the challenge with 1012 books in my TBR pile. I've read no more than five and I now have 1156 books on my tbr list, and counting.
If that wasn't bad enough, I've gone to two Friends of the Library book sales and made off with six big bags of books.
My sense of guilt is warring with my excitement over the fact that I bought some really great books. What can I say? The look of a packed bookshelf destroys my self-control :)
How is everyone else doing with their TBR decimation challenge?
